3/5 somewhat decent. That hobo washing scene crossed the line though by far. Not only did it cross the line, but it came back to the line, then took a steaming shit on the line and still crossed it. Terrible.

The wraparounds had one of the greatest in-jokes in Simpsons history, i.e.- "The Simpsons are going to Delaware!"

4/5. Spongebath was excessive, but I did like that the stories were told by a hobo. It afforded the writers the ability to play around with the stories a bit.

I finally saw this for the first time a few weeks ago (Now I've finally seen every S12 episode), and I have to say, I expected worse. Certainly better than "Margical" or "Wettest Stories", and really not any worse than "Christmas Stories". Each sequence and the wraparound had their enjoyable parts. I'd give it a B-

The Paul Bunyan segment seemed to last way too long, the Apple segment was way too short. With just those two this episode can be regarded as a throwaway and deserves nothing really above a D. However, the last segment was actually really fun, and brought the episode up quite a few grades.

2/5, not a personal favourite of mine.
Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

You know.. This episode is another one of teh 10-12 guilty pleasures of mine.

I really enjoy it. To be honest - part of that is because I'm from Missouri and we grew up on the river with all the great Mark Twain stories. That whole sequence was like a Simpson episode being filmed in my backyard.

"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

One of the better episodes of season 12. And this was done before the staff started overdoing non-Halloween trilogies, so it was a bit more enjoyable to watch.

the three stories are good but none of them is great imo.
The first one with Homer as giant is pretty funny and in general
are all three entertaining. Bart and Nelson as Tom and Huck are a great idea too.

Saw this one again the other day. Not incredibly funny but still better than most of the others from that season. The best segment was probably the last one followed by Connie Appleseed. C+

1/5. But only because there's no 0 rating.

Total waste of 25 minutes of my life watching this the first and only time. Utterly no redeeming qualities and totally unfunny.

This was one of the few non-THOH Simpsons trilogies that I actually enjoyed. Each of the stories were engaging and charming in their own way and I think they did quite effective spoofs of each of the actual stories they were portraying. My only two criticisms were that the spongebath thing was totally unecessary and pointless and they should have timed the stories out more evenly instead of devoting one big section to the first story then having to squeeze the other two into the remaining time. 4/5 for me

    Oh Boy! Buffalo Testicles!!

It was an entertaining trilogy and back then these kinds of episodes were not common so it felt refreshing.

Certainly not terrible but nothing special either. Some good bits especially in the Connie Appleseed one. 3/5

It's pretty good. Probably the best of the three is the Tom Sawyer segment, followed by the Connie Appleseed, followed by the Paul Bunyan. In other words, the episode kept getting better and better.

The Paul Bunyan segment has some funny jokes but there isn't much plot to build around. Paul Bunyan was a big guy and he did a bunch of stuff. So they have to invent the whole comet thing, which is okay, I guess. The image of Homer trying to hit it like a baseball is pretty funny. Was a little underwhelmed by the "comet in buttcrack" solution, but admittedly it's not really my favorite kind of joke. There were a few funny ones in there. My favorite is probably the awkward sex question that Homer asks. It would've been so much worse if they would've gotten all explicit and everything, so it's better to keep things in people's imagination on that one. 3/5.

Connie Appleseed is funny for the sheer amount of buffalo that Homer kills in the segment. It's a pretty simple story overall, so it has to be carried by the jokes. As mentioned before, they get a lot of good mileage with the buffalo stuff. All of the other jokes are kind of forgettable, but nothing too horrible. 3.5/5.

The Tom Sawyer segment is my favorite because it's probably the most consistently funny. Some funny stage direction with Marge running off quickly from the wedding. They have a lot of fun with the Mark Twain dialect, which make the parody authentic and funny at the same time. The steamboat scene is pretty hilarious with the Derringers and the different XXXs for the liquor. The ending is a funny (and dark) fake-out joke that works really well. The first time I saw the episode, I was a little confused as to whether they were alive or not, which was one of my denser moments. 4.5/5.

    Overall, probably around a 3.5/5 to a 4/5.
