Care to tell us what was changed?

EDIT: Don't worry, I've found the cover image. It looks like a mix between the 'old' US covers (with the stripe across the top), and the Simpsons Classics books (with the image of a character near the top of the cover).

    BART SIMPSON #38
Bart trades places with Seymour Skinner and is made principal for a day! What will happen when Bart needs to play by the rules and Skinner begins to plot his own revenge? Then, Milhouse gives the 4-1-1 on what it takes to be the “king of cool” at your school. Finally, after a run-in with the school bullies, Ralph is forced to learn the value of a dollar.

    Bart Simpson #38 sounds good

  4. #964

Yeah I think so too. Its always fun when someone other than Bart gets their own story in the comic, and hey its Milhouse and Ralph.

Value of a dollar? It kind of sounds like they steal it from him, and he goes on the offensive to get it back or something. lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's by either Jesse or Amanda McCann, because Jesse told me of a few of their upcoming stories; one of which includes Ralph getting revenge on the bullies.

It's even worse in Australia; the publishers here release the Free Comic Book Day books and charge $6.50 for them, and their advertising campaign is "No, we're not giving this book away (well...except for the bonus poster)!"

  9. #969

so when does #133 come out in the U.S?

I guess nobody's told them what "Free Comic Book day" means.

Thanks to CousinMerl for this great sig!

I think Free Comic Book Day means that once you open the shipping box, the comic books are free to sell to the public.

Well when it all comes down to things, Bongo is, in the end, in charge of every Simpsons book published so it's Bongo's decision to allow Otter Press to allow the Free Comic Book Day books to be printed in Australia. But I think it's just pathetic to charge us $6.50 for it.

Thanks for the link. You know some of these comic stories coming up actually sound pretty cool. So many parodies though, but I can't deny the morbid curiousity I have over Jaws starring Chief Wiggum and Sea Captain, Zoidberg as Dr.Who, and Milhouse as Buckaroo Banzai (of which said movie still doesn't make an ounce of sense to me.). And even some of the regular stories sound decent, aside from the Grampa moves in with Flanders one which is just eh, ok.

The one with Burns though and the robot body sounds like a ThoH story thats worthy of even being animated. It sounds pretty fun.

    Wow, very surprising. ;-/

That said, some of those ideas look pretty good. I like the one about Grampa moving in with Flanders and the one with Burns and the robot body.

Stay away from that if possible; I picked up that issue (#32) on the weekend, and it's my least favourite Futurama issue. There's a thing where Fry, Leela and Bender's 'son' takes over the world that is so stupid and a low-point in Boothby's work for Bongo, and the art is really cruddy (as in, Mike Kazaleh gave Cubert puffy Moe/Marge-esque hair rather than it's usual Fry-ish look).

Simpsons #132 was pretty good, there's no way I'm taking that poster out (I'll wait to see if the Aus. edition gives it away too). The main flaw was the art (the story was perfect); Burns doesn't look right without his teeth, and at times Burns' nose is really stubby and it doesn't look like him...however, it has some of the best-looking Smithers that Costanza has done (I think it's panel 5 on page 24, at the yard sale where he looks right on model). I loved the random callbacks to issue #99, with Burns being called into heaven, especially the one just after he is drugged at the center in Mexico.

I also got Super Spectacular #5, best issue so far. The Captain Cupcake and Pieboy story was really good, as was the Aliment Man story (although the art would have been suited more for the THOH comic).

Last but not least, I picked up Big Beastly Book of Bart Simpson. Really nicely designed, although I dislike how the cover art that introduces each book is just positioned over the background -- what happened to the days when there were characters doing something that was relevant to the book's theme?!? Apart from a printing error on the second page of Batter-Up Bart (there's a grey blob that 'leaks' under the letters on the scoreboard and off the edge of the panel), it's great.

Credits for Bart #38 list Matsomuto as having an art credit, meaning Nina must have another story.

I have a feeling its not another manga story though, she can draw in the official style quite well too.

I'd be interested to see how her "normal" comic art would be though.

Big Beastly Book is wonderful...I got that the other day. Humdinger really shouldn't be as much as it is, since one of the stories was already printed in Simpsons Comics Strike Back.

    - The people that make the comics are totally separate from the people that make the show.

    - The writers have expressed their dislike for the comics in various ways (for example, there is a "Return Bongo Comics" sign in 'Team Homer', and in 'Behind the Laughter' there is a nasty jab in the 'Homer making his own Sunday comics' scene).

    - Numerous times in the letter pages in the comics people have said things like "I loved this issue, you should make it into an episode!", only to have the letter-answerer state that they don't make comics into episodes (and episodes into comics) because it isn't fair for the fans, and that they like to make stories that haven't been done in "The Simpsons" before.

By the way guys, I think I've figured out who answered the letters in the US Junk Mail...Terry Delegeane.
In one of the very old Australian editions (as in, from 1999) someone asks if the letters are answered in Australia or the US. The person answering the Australian letters says that they send their replies to the guy that answers the US letters to be checked before they're printed, before adding "hey, Terry!". Since Terry Delegeane is the only 'Terry' that I can recall working for Bongo, I'm pretty sure it's him. I felt smart when I worked that out, so screw anyone else

Hi everyone (new but LONG TIME lurker but the damn registration never worked...)

I actually stopped collecting the comic soon after the essays from Matt Groening stopped. It just felt too disconnected from the show and I had no reaction to them. I do enjoy all the Simpsons related books done by Bill Morrison and others. Also Futurama comics seemed pretty funny actually.
