Personally I think that sounds pretty awful. You guys already have "The Best of the Simpsons". Even though I don't own any UK issues, I think you guys have the best presentation out of any of the comics...in Australia we get Simpsons Classics, Best of the Simpsons AND Best of Bart Simpson, all of which come out every three months. It's a waste of time and money printing and buying stories that have already been rereleased not long ago.

I really hate the Australian comics. I went to pick up the new Bart Simpson today. For a while they've been combining two issues together and releasing them (for example, #20 and #21 were combined as #20, #22 and #23 were combined as #21, #24 and #25 were in #22, etc). We were supposed to have #26 and #27 this time as #23...instead they've just released #26 and added stories from the first Super Spectacular onto the end...and the cover says #26 rather than #23, so it looks as if they've skipped three issues. Their douches.

That sounds more badly organised than the UK ones! Oh yeah speaking of the UK, there's a free poster with #133 if you get it in Sainsbury's. Too bad I already got the comic in my little paper shop, but I bought it there too because I wanted that poster

I've read the latest two. Futurama #31 was great, imo. The story was very funny and interesting, one of my favourites. I wish it could have gone on longer- the ending was sort of a 'that ended fast' as it was too short- I could tell it would be, as the story had progressed pretty far when there was only a couple pages to go. But still very enjoyable, a great read. Even the art was good- I thought Mike K did a good job with all these new characters. A

I can't really say the same of Simpsons #130. Without revealing too many spoilers, started well enough. Marge selling things was a good idea which led to a lot of very funny jokes, but I think the story took a wrong turn when it came to Artie. Not only was the way he was introduced pretty unbelievable but it's likely it'll mess with the show's continuity if we get another Artie episode. It got a bit too much after this, too, with a very silly ending. It's worth getting for the jokes, though, which were funny as always. B- Did anyone else get dazzled by the pages where Homer and Artie were in front of the red curtain? So bright!

    A tribute to Bart Simpson

You think THAT's bad? What about that time when I was turned into a Tetris block?

The quiz part was my favorite section of the story! To be honest, I doubt there'll be another Artie episode. The way they actually ended "The Ziff Who Came To Dinner" (remember Marge, "kids, take one last look at Uncle Artie), suggests he was (probably) beaten to death.
The main problem is the title of each story usually ties in with the main climax. In this case, it didn't. The "Marge the Sellout" part was only in the first five or so pages. It would have been better to have something about the quiz in the title (pretty lame but something like "Do The Simpsons Know The Simpsons?") since that seemed more like the main idea of the comic.
One small thing that is annoying with some of Boothby's comics is he uses too much descriptive language and gets into a new plot too fast. For example, Bart and Lisa are talking to Homer at the library, before it suddenly cuts to the family in the car with Lisa explaining how the bidder lived in Shelbyville. That would have worked better if they ended the library scene with Lisa saying that, before cutting to the car with Bart complaining about Shelbyville. It would have been a better transition.
One last thing, the entire page when they arrive at Artie's house is pretty appalling. It's just characters describing the scene.

Anyway, I've just gotten back with Bart #26 (I was gonna get the Masterpiece Gallery but I didn't have enough on me)...I was mistaken, they HAVE numbered it correctly (says #23 right on the cover, in place of the US #26), so I feel like a bit of a fool. However, I still think it's a bit of a ripoff releasing a few issues which was a combination of two actual books, and then padding out half of this one with reprinted material.
Interesting note: after reading the synopsis for Bart #27 (which I already have in the US edition), it appears that the "M is for Zirconia" story from Simpsons #114 was originally scheduled for Bart #27...

The next one with Hank Scorpio is also pretty bad- mainly because Homer acts like a 2 year old with ADD throughout the entire story
I'm surprised I never replied to this sooner...

I didn't necessarily think Homer was acting like a 2 year old, all he was really doing was contemplating eating the sandwich.

Well I went to this thing for Bongo Comics, a panel I guess you could say, at a comic book store I go to (kinda surprised at the owner's connections.). It was actually more for the Handbook, and there was only 2 guys who were actually from Bongo, the rest were actually animators on the show and movie. Bill Morrison was there though, although he came really late. Unfortunatly I had to leave so I didn't have too much time to speak to him by that point but he seemed like a really cool guy. The story with Spacecoyote's guest paneling is definitely this next one, it should be coming next week because it just got off the print.

Not too much on the comic otherwise, although I got Summer Shindig (which Bill signed very quickly right before I left which was really nice of him.). Its a pretty fun romp, its well drawn and pretty coherant. And it has the Sea Captain, Wiggum and Lou chasing a giant robot which is chasing and trying to kill Frink all through the background of whats mainly going on which was actually kinda funny. It all ends pretty well too, its good. After the main story there's small little mini summer stories like a how-to to enjoy the beach, a kinda genuinly funny take on Francis Scott Key that Bart's bsing for his history report basically, and Homer and Lisa trying to stay cool in the heat which is probably my favorite of the shorts, and last one about the last day of Summer.

All and all its pretty enjoyable, its kinda a laid back book which goes with the whole thing.

That's "The X Men" right? That was US #118, over a year ago. Man it's worrying that the UK is so far behind.

I can't remember the other guy's name but its not Bongo per say, he handles all the publishing of the books in general from the comics to things like the handbook. He was really cool, I probably spoke with him the most. He had a very unique name, maybe I'll remember it later (I'm terrible with names, its a bit embarassing.) He had this custom made button up red shirt with the Planet Express logo on the back, Matt himself supposedly gave it to him. That was such an awesome looking shirt.

It was a pretty lucky find, I found out about it 3 weeks ago because a regular at this store I talk to knows I get a lot of the comics so he mentioned it to me.

You're probably thinking of Serban Cristescu.

I know! It's so hard here getting the stuff!

There's hardly any comic shops here, and...well I could blab on and on.

If you guys didn't notice, Family Guy was produced by the same person that made the Simpsons.

There's only three comic stores that I know of in the vast wasteland known as Australia.

Luckily one is in the city; the bad thing is that's over 300KM away :P

You're probably thinking of Serban Cristescu.
So that's who the one of the other guys were? Cool, he's the guy that organizes things like the trade paperbacks, correct?

issue #131 says that next issue will include a pull-out movie poster, so those of you who don't normally get the comic might want to make an exception just this once.

Anyone think the pull out poster will be the new one or the first one?

I've been anticipating this one for a while so this little review is kinda special, with pictures.

Heh, well it was pretty much what I expected writing wise. 33 pages of hitting the easiest stereotype targets you possibly can imagine. I have to admit at times even some real groan worthy things. I know this is the series that made all of Australia demand the chance to whack Bart in the ass with a boot, but still guys...a little overboard? lol

Don't get me wrong though, I did like this quite a bit for the most part just because the idea was so fun. I wouldn't mind the comic doing stuff like this more often, with radically different styles. And there were a couple of genuinly funny things.

(in fact I think that kinda sums up their stance on groan worthy ethnic humor. lol)

(this one's actually genuinly pretty damn funny.)

Story aside, Nina's penciling was pretty good. Some I spoke to earlier are a bit mixed with it but I like how the style still has a lot of very subtle similarity to the main style of the show still despite the manga-motif. You know while the other two stories had their moments I do kind of wish the whole issue was dedicated to the manga-type one just because its so trippy to look at these characters in something even resembling that style.

Plus even if its over the top there's a hell of a lot more life in the first one than the other two. I was kind of wishing it was going to be a "normal" story in Springfield that just happened to be drawn and maybe panned out like a traditional manga, as opposed to just going all out and having random demons attack, naming the team "Little Ninjas" and other assorted over the top lolanime stuff. Still kinda do, but regardless its very fun to look at. And there were some funny pokes at manga like the above panel issue, and the fact it ends in a pretty similar fashion to a shitload of Shounen and Shoujo manga. I hope its not the last time she's used to pencil this.

Aside from some just funny "wtf?lol" moments the third part was definitely the weakest part of the whole thing. The second part was amusing because of some of its actually sorta accurate (albiet still pretty overboard) takes on a lot of European comics, kinda like Spirou. Uh..I'm not sure what to think of a random bunch of smurfs coming out but just the fact they're smurfs gives another "wtf?lol" moment. All and all, while I hope if they do this again some day its done a little more on the subtle side its definitely worth checking out just on novelty alone even.

    (Euro Marge looks sorta cool.)

"The Simpsons Treasure Trove" has a picture of 'Hail to the Cat' on the front, suggesting they're reprinting that first.

Seems pretty pointless. They'll probably have some really nice free gift or something to make people buy recent issues reprinted, tho.

    Cool.

I'm wondering - has there been a Simpsons Comics Comp? Like, what is the best comic strip?

I'd vote for "Milhouse the Man, Krusty in the Can, and the Great Springfield Frink-Out" if there was one.

I started one a month or so ago, but it died.
