I'm not terribly excited about the Maggie#1 one-shot coming out. I can't wait for the L'il Homer one shot though! I might read the Maggie #1 digitally now that it's possible to do that at comixology....

It depends if that'll work. The Simpsons Comics app is only in the US app store at the moment, and although there are ways to make a free US iTunes account to get the app, you will then need a US billing address or US gift card to be able to buy anything in it (I've tried).

I'm in Australia too. I have both the Comixology app and the Simpsons Comics app on my iPad. Try searching for Simpsons Comics in Comixology while signed in with your Aus iTunes account - nothing will appear (at least not on my devices, unless something is wrong with my apps).

I'm looking forward to the Maggie one-shot the most out of all four one-shots because it has more Aragones art pages inside and now a wrap around variant cover. I hope they include some "Futurama" characters for any more "wave 2" one-shots.

Speaking of Aragones, "Funnies" won in a tie for "Favorite Comic" from the "Comics Buyers Guide 2012 Fan Awards":

I'm excited in August theres a one shot comic called L'Il Homer coming out, its taking a look at homer as a child... so that should be cool. Also I'm confused so wich issue is the simpsons in Uk up to because I know here (Canada/US) where up to like 190... I think I stopped collecting at issue like 170 three years ago or something, I started at issue like 73 a looooong time ago and Iactually went back and bought all 1-72 so I have a decent run of the comic :P this thread reminded me! On a another note anyone have Radioactive Man #1... really good! and I actually enjoyed simpsons comics... well atleast up until issue like 160...

Just picked up The Simpsons Go For Gold, which was released in Australia this week. I would've liked to have got the Comic-Con edition, but the prices it is going for on eBay is insane (and that's coming from someone who bought the "Best Superhero Stories Ever" signed by Bill Morrison for $60 last year!).
I have to say, it is a very bizarre comic. There is one brand-new story that takes up most of the book, and then there is a majorly condensed version of "Burnsie on Board" (Simpsons Comics #34), which is now 12 pages instead of its original 21. It is now called "Tales From The Springfield Games", and the first page of the story is taken from the original cover of #34. All of the lettering has been redone by Karen Bates in the current Simpsons Comics style (back in #34 they used a slightly different, smaller font), and Nathan Kane is listed as the editor.
The biggest peeve I have is the edition here includes 2 posters and the middle of the book is filled with ads, so to be able to view the complete London Map at once you need to deconstruct the comic and take out all the posters and ads, which a collector like myself doesn't like to do.

EDIT: Just got done reading the condensed "Burnsie on Board", and it's actually an entirely new story. All of the art is from Simpsons #34, but for the most part they've slapped a new story on it. There's a few lines that are the same, and the plot is virtually identical, but the actual script is different. I can't say I've seen anything like this before.

Got some scans for you all for The Simpsons Go For The Gold!

    COVER

    LONDON 2012 MAP

    REAR OF MAP

COMPARISON #1 BETWEEN "BURNSIE ON BOARD" AND "TALES FROM THE SPRINGFIELD GAMES"
Note they've used the cover art as the splash page for the story. Note in these comparisons the original #34 is on the left, Go For The Gold version is on the right.

    COMPARISON #2
You can see that the art is virtually the same, although a couple panels have been expanded, and Smithers has been altered slightly in the second last panel because he is holding a book that is a totally different shape. There's also a few alterations with the colours.

    COMPARISON #3
Pretty much identical art, but you can really see how much they've altered the script.

Interestingly, the writing and art credits for both stories are the same (I'm curious if they really did bring Rob Hammersley back to re-write his comic after 15 years, or if he was only credited because the art goes with his original story). Tim Harkins (inks for Burnsie on Board) is not credited at all.

    Burnsie on Board
    Script: Rob Hammersley
    Pencils: Erick Tran
    Layouts: Stephanie Gladden
    Inks: Tim Harkins
    Colours: Nathan Kane
    Letters: Jeannine Crowell

    Tales From The Springfield Games
    Script: Rob Hammersley
    Pencils: Erick Tran
    Layouts: Stephanie Gladden
    Colours: Chris Ungar
    Letters: Karen Bates
    Editor: Nathan Kane

There are no credits listed for the original story (entitled "Bummer Games", and has Bart and Milhouse getting Springfieldians to re-enact the 'history' of the Olympics for a school project), the inside cover just features a list of writers and artists. Not sure if this includes people that may have re-written the second story or not.

    WRITERS
    Bill Morrison
Jamie Angell (hadn't written anything for Bongo since Krusty Comics in '95!)
    Ian Boothby
Max Davison (I believe this is his first writing credit - he used to be a Bongo intern, now editorial assistant)
    Evan Dorkin
    Pat McGreal
    Tom Peyer

    PENCILS
    Phil Ortiz
    Mike Kazaleh
    Nina Matsumoto
John Costanza (the only artist where I honestly can't find what he drew - he has a pretty distinctive style and I simply can't find it in this book)
    Jason Ho

    INKS
    Mike Rote

    COLORS
    Art Villanueva
    Nathan Hamill
    Serban Cristescu
    Nathan Kane

    LETTERS
    Karen Bates

    EDITS
    Bill Morrison

The posters in the Australian edition are nothing special. One is the Go For The Gold cover with Homer and the wiener, the other one is the Simpsons #34 cover. It would've been fantastic if the poster was a huge version of the fantastic map.

That's really weird. Like Star Wars Special Edition weird. So they reworked a really old story to include references to the Olympics and gold medals?

Pretty much. It's turned into this weird sporting rivalry between Shelbyville and Springfield where Burns gets them to compete against one another, compared to Burns holding his own games to redeem himself for failing when he was younger. The most bizarre part is a lot of the one-liners (like Troy McClure's "classic visual gag" line with Wiggum and the giant fish, and Willie asking for a match to light the flame) are still there - I guess it was too difficult to come up with better jokes with panels like that - while almost everything else is completely rewritten.

What's the size of the Otter Press Simpsons Go for the Gold?

Are they bigger than the U.S. Bongos? Magazine size like "Simpsons Classics"?

They're digest-size (like the US Treasure Trove that they released a few years ago - slightly smaller in dimension than a regular comic). All Otter Press releases are this size now, before they resumed printing the comics Simpsons and Futurama were standard comic book size... not anymore though.

Does Otter Press have an online store? Can't find their website anywhere.

Nah they don't, not even a website to say who they are. Their primary way of selling comics (aside from newsagents/bookstores) is with mail-in forms included in all of their comics.

That was really a great write-up! So I hesitate to even mention...

    > Jamie Angell (hadn't written anything for Bongo since Krusty Comics in '95!)

Yes, his credits have been few and far between, but he was credited for the script for "Marge Attacks!' in Simpsons Comics #25 in October 1996, and then was listed as having done the research for The Simpsons 2005 Fun Calendar. Not positive he didn't work on any other calendar/book projects yet.

When the show ends in a few years what will be of the comic? Will it still be running?Maybe some writers will come over and work for the comics since they still want to work on The Simpsons .Will more die-hard fans get into the comics so they won't suffer from withdrawal?

They kept making Futurama Comics in the four years it was cancelled (and back then they had no idea it was going to come back), I wouldn't be surprised if they keep making the comics up until when it simply isn't profitable for them anymore.

From what I've read, the writers on the series don't want anything to do with the comics (in fact, there's a little dig towards them at the end of Behind the Laughter, with Homer holding up a comic strip with the Bongo Comics logo clearly visible, and Bart questions its quality). Also, the comics aren't written the same way the show is - on the series, one writer makes the draft, and then all the writers pitch in to improve it. For the comics, it's a single writer that writes the script, with one editor (currently Nathan Kane) assisting. It's a totally different work environment, and I'd think they would be more comfortable finding other TV shows to work on, as that is what they are comfortable with. Additionally, there's barely 10 regular writers at Bongo as it is, imagine if the writers from the show wanted to all write comics of their own - they'd be lucky to have one comic every year and a half or so with their name on it! In the comic book industry, writers are generally paid by the script, just like people who work on TV shows are paid by the episode; as I've said, the difference is everybody pitches in on all the episodes (so they get paid for a full season), while the comics it's one individual (so if you get to write 1 comic in a year, you only get paid for that one comic). IMO, I believe the writers from the show would stay in the TV industry. Shows get cancelled all the time, and most of them have experience on shows that have been cancelled in the past - they're smarter than to hold onto a franchise in such a way, especially one that is nowhere near as popular as it was 20 years ago.

Has the variant cover image to next month's Bongo one-shot been released yet?

I have a feeling it's going to be a tough one to get at the local shops for a variant of a Bongo.

I thought THOH 18 was alright. The first story was definitely my favourite, and each story after was slightly worse. There's one with Bartman that easily could have been in an issue of Super Spectacular, as it really only became THOH material for the last couple of pages. Overall, I'd rank it below the last several years (I've said it before and I'll say it again - Harvest of Fear from last year is the most chilling story I've read in a THOH comic), but definitely far above, say, #12.

Also, December titles have been announced: http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stori...3/bongodec.htm
    (Love the Super Spectacular cover)

Last but not least, for anyone interested, Bart #75 features a story by Simpsons producer Tom Gammill.

    Hello everyone,
I've finally arrived on this forum because I'm desperately looking for the UK Simpsons Comics issue #201. Normally I have a subscription but the mail from the UK to Belgium sometimes lacks in professionality and, well, to cut a long story short, I suspect my magazine has been rounded up and disappeared into some customs officer's dog basket. If there would be anyone who would be kind enough to sell me a copy, I'd be more than willing to pay a decent price. I'm not that familiar whether it's customary to post me a private message or to mail me rightaway; anyway my e-mailadress is werner_peeters at skynet dot be.

Finally completed my collection of Simpsons Comics issues 1-100 via trade paperbacks and assorted books. I've been collecting the TPBs for years, ever since they began, as an alternative to buying the issues monthly. I do own a few issues, like the first issue, the big crossover issue and any issue with freebies like posters and SkyBox trading cards. I also own the milestone issues, like 50, 100 and 150.

The SNPP.com online comic guides were a big help. I realized that certain issues were skipped and ended up in books like the Simpsons Futurama Crossover collection and the Simpsons Holiday Humdinger.

I do find it odd that ONE issue has never made it to a TPB collection: issue 81 "Lisa Simpson's Book Club". There was the TPB collection Simpsons Comics Get Some Fancy Book Learnin' which had an assortment of compilation issues, yet they didn't include issue 81 which should have been the perfect fit for this collection.

    ---

For Bart Simpson Comics, I made an attempt to get into them. I own the first two issues and the first TPB. But given its a monthly series, I just felt that it was too much to keep up with when I'm already regularly getting Futurama, Super Spectacular, Summer Shindig, THOH, Winter Wingding and the One Shot Wonders.

At this point there are eleven Bart Simpson books out, so I'd have to catch up with ten books. Maybe I'll start buying a book every month.

January titles have been revealed: http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stori...9/bongojan.htm

New trade paperback, Simpsons Illustrated, and a reprint of Simpsons Comics Extravaganza.

Simpsons #198 seems to be written by Tom Gammill (a producer on the series). His first story was printed in last month's Bart.
