I got 128. I thought it was pretty neat. Its one of those issues of the comic thats purely just for fun, because its trying out a distinct way of telling the story...in this case the 24 style. Sorta reminicent of Trilogy of Error. Its novelty.

All and all, not the comic's best but it was pleasant.

  2. #752

i quite liked the 24 parody would liked to have seen more of jack bauer or other charcters such as chloe. i also loved lisa getting stuck in a cougar trap hilariously good parody of a hilariously bad plotline. by the way i often get the american ones from a comic shop in england if ur wondering how i got it when it's not out in england yet.

I get them from a comic store in Australia, should be picking this up when I go to the city in a week or so luckily I have a subscription.

Can I also add I don't really like the new paper that Bongo's using for the comics...I've found they're much easier to damage than the old paper, which is strange since the old stuff was was flimsy and incredibly thin.

    To: Ivan P.

Yeah, I agree with you on the paper....I miss the 'old days' when you can put 'Silly Putty' on a comic and get an image out of it and mis shape it!

I got #128. It was great!

The Rev may appreciate a cameo by Tim and Helen in one panel.

Wow, can't wait...hopefully I'll be able to get a copy of it...

The Futurama TPB also looks awesome, any news on what issues it contains?

Also, I know the posting of 'crappy free forums' is usually frowned upon, but I was wondering if anyone'd like to join here:

It's just easier to post new releases and everything on a forum rather than the central WBC site, and it allows others to give their opinions. Moderator and (limited) admin spots are also open.

in england we're on something like issue 130 for some reason people in america get the comic stories a year before us, the most recent issue to come out was the one where krusty starts working at the nuclear power plant and ned flanders starts thinking he is seeing his dead wife maude alive in public. theres a comic book store that i sometimes go to and it has the american copies of simpsons comics, as well as.....................o.......................god.......... .....................................................
..............no..........................FAMILY GUY COMICS! what kind of horrible person would do this, i read one in the shop and it sucked, does anybody here collect these comics, if so tell me what you think of them! please

Heh, I saw some Family Guy comics last time I was in the city.

I really liked that issue with the Krusty and Ned stories, it's US #115[/pointless fact]. The reasons the UK seems 'ahead' is because they print the Futurama crossovers, Bartman, and Treehouse of Horror comics as regular 'Simpsons Comics'.

I bought the first 2 and I thought it was ok. They are only going to do 3 issues and its finished unless sales say do a regular series.

Does anybody know why Beach Blanket Bongo is missing an issue? I've forgotten which one, but it is either 74 or 76 which is skipped over. This seems to happen occasionally which really annoys me.

I've recently bought the latest issue of UK Simpsons comics, and it has really pissed me off. I'm sorry, but for one thing, they've had three Flanders appearances in a row, and still no Lovejoy, yet for some reason they decide to use the phrase 'church mouse' to describe Ned on the cover. There is no church, there is no mouse, it's the Simpsons living in a mall. Apparently the Lovejoys do not like malls.

In the letters section, a kid asked a very good question: Why are the UK comics different from the American comics (apart from the English ones being bigger)?
Now, I happen to think this is a good question, and one I used to wonder myself. But does this kid get a good answer? Well, decide for yourself, here's the answer:
Because the English ones are better

No, I'm sorry, I don't think they are, at least the American ones aren't completely biased with their characters. It's not the comics I'm talking about here - there was some very good drawings by the fans in this issue, and a lot of them got shoved into a corner. But some got whole pages, and guess which character was in ALL of these? Good God, no wonder they haven't printed my letter, I should have drawn a picture of CBG on it, then it would have got in. I mean, it's bad enough they won't stop in the comics, but if they're going to behave like this with the drawings by the fans, then I guess I've finally found people more biased than myself. At least the next issue has Hank Scorpio in it, so there's hope, but would it kill them to mention the Lovejoys JUST ONCE?

Okay, the rant is over. Lovejoy rules, Chicken Little rules, Mayor Lurkey rules especially, Happy Feet rules too, screw all who disagree. Just getting a few more things of my chest.
    I'm going now. *passes out*

Got #128, awesome. As was Futurama #30. Lovejoy, you'll be glad to now Helen and the Rev appear in one panel, almost being run down by Homer.

@Captain Squid, #76 was left out because it is a 'trilogy fantasy' issue (it contains parody of Shakespearean plays). #70 (the Greek myths issue) was also skipped out, as was the Bible stories issue (#62). I emailed Bill Morrison about it a month or so ago, and he replied saying the fantasy issues were being left out since they will one day be released altogether in the one paperback (much like 'Holiday Humdinger').

I got my hands on 129. It was actually fairly alright. The plot was actually not too over the top this issue. The idea of a main character posing as a cripple to get freebies in life isn't exactly new, but what can you do? This show hasn't done it before I think. It was pleasant.

My only gripe with it, is that the art looks sort of weird. Ivan have you noticed that they've been really thickening the characters outlines a lot lately? Its starting to sort of get ridiculously thick, like everyone has some kind of black force field on them or something.

Art was a little weird in some other places too in general but nothing that stood out too much...except this one panel where Homer's eyes are going in completely opposite directions. I know the show and the character design does that sometimes as a style thing, and it is funny but to a degree. It just looked sorta weird here, but I chuckled at it more than anything else in the comic so I'm sort of split on whether its a bad thing or not. I noticed the cops were driving the new style Police Interceptors (like what we see all the time now in real life.) instead of the old fashioned one we still see in the show and comic in general after all this time. Too bad the car sucked. lol

Also, is it just me or does anyone else think that in #129, the hair that goes from the top of Homers ear around his head, is too big? I kept noticing this throughout the whole comic.

Other than that, a good issue.

Hey, has anyone seen Bart Simpson #35 (US edition, not UK, sadly). It's got Helen on the cover! :thumbsup

Now, if only I could find a comic in the UK where she gets that kind of treatment.

OK, the art is by John Costanza. He drew #74 (remember our conversation where we discussed the huge eyes that Bart and Lisa developed in that story?). The inks are by Phyllis Novin. She always uses a really thick brush -- she did the inks in most of the latest Costanza stories (including #127, #124, #119, #116, #113, etc).

I'm a bit scared about getting #129 now -- I read the review for it at http://silverbulletcomicbooks.com, and for the first time ever they actually acknowledged John Costanza's horrendous art...issues like #70 and #74 get no mention of the off-model characters, but since it's been mentioned for #129 does it mean the art's even more horrendous than #70 or #74?

It was about on par for Costanza.

    A pretty good issue.

Bart Simpson #35 was really nice. Art was nice and clean, no black forcefield outlines, nothing horrendously off model and everything was drawn well.

The first storyline was pretty neat. Brought back Truckasaurus from the ancient season 1 episode. Bart and Otto find it in a junkyard and fix it up, but Bart loses control of it and of course, it goes crazy through Springfield. I love it when the comic expands on something from the TV series, especially something as ancient as this. Its a neat little something only the comic can do. It sounds a bit over the top, and it is...but so was Truckasaurus. Its not so incredibly over the top that its groan inducing though, its subtle calamity like Bart having an elephant.

There's a fun little story with Frink in the middle, who's always fun. An intentionally pointless story with Bart and Milhouse pretending to be Itchy and Scratchy, and the last story has Bart getting expelled from school, which was pretty alright. He by chance gets to know Skinner's mom, and its nice to see another side of her character other than "Skinner's bitchy shadow" for once. All and all it kind of blows 129 away for this month.
