Crying shame, isn't it? I like the two so much I built a poll around them, and it's mostly because they are both such amusing characters with lots of plot quirks. You really could go far with them (ecspecially Hibbert, don't know why), and yet no Simpsons Comics writer really does.

It's at times like these when I want to abandon my lawyer/doctor/millionaire dream and become a comics writer. Then again, they don't let just anyone write comics, do they?

Or Ruth and Laura Powers. We have basically never seen them in the comics.

I agree with you about Ruth and Laura Powers. They appear even less than the Lovejoys, and that's saying something.

I'd also like Dr Nick to appear, though. It's a shame these characters are being neglected so they can go overboard with other, less popular characters.

I went back to the city and the comic book store, was lucky enough to get the last copies of Simpsons #124 and Futurama #28 in stock...blech, I absolutely dislike Simpsons #124. Flanders was talking in damn cliches for the entire story, and he seemed out of character (especially since he basically never said anything along the lines of "diddly" in the entire book).
I also stocked up on heaps of comic bags, so I can now seal mine and sell them off when I'm older*

*Of course, I would never sell them off.

How many damn platitudes can you cram in Flanders' mouth in one comic book? The answer was right there.

It's funny though, when the TV show screws up a character, I don't feel nearly as bad about it as when the comics do it. Maybe I've just become too complacent with the TV series or something.

My damn comic store missed out #123, and I heard that one was _really_ good. I'm gonna go and see if I can pick it up tomorrow. I did get #124 though, which wasn't too great. Flanders says SOME cliches, but not every sentence and they got grating after the first few pages. I think they were trying to focus on cramming as many cliches as possible (As Bill Morrison points out at the end) rather than doing a decent story. The idea was there, and there were hints at something good...but just came off pretty badly.

^And there's what happens when you focus on dialouge over story. You get messes like #124. Hopefully they'll learn from this...

^ Stevie, you should read Bart Simpson comics (if you haven't already!). They're very well-written for the most part and I love the artwork. Maybe it's because they come out once every 2 months but the story is a lot sharper and better written than quite a few of the recent Simpsons Comics. I'll post up a few reviews of these soon.

Yes it was. At first it was hard getting into the story, since they basically start the entire thing FROM page one, but on subsequent readings it is really enjoyable, the art is great, and there's some awesome gags (like Lisa complaining about subliminal advertising...just as an ad is placed over the top of her panel)...I know Silver Bullet comics said it was the best issue ever...I wouldn't say that...it would be in the top 20 for sure...a hard feat for new issues to do.

Since you come from the UK you might be a few issues behind the US (it's ok, down in Australia we are too), unless you get the US Bart Simpson comics like I do...#28, #29, #30, #31, and #32 are all great. No flawless stories at all. Great artwork for the entire thing. Great reads, look out for them if you don't already have them.

Wait, wait...of course you get the US ones, you just said how you got the annoying Flanders issue

^ Yeah! I totally agree, they're very well written, especially seeing as they're supposed to be for kids! And I get the US Simpsons comics as well as the UK ones. I can only get the US ones from this tiny place on the edge of town, but it's still well worth going (except when they miss issues!). I like the bigger art of the UK ones- but definitely don't get them for the infamous letter page with the editor's 'witty' and 'clever' answers to questions ;-/

I'll post up a review of #123 soon. If I have to get it off eBay, I will!

For some reason I've always wanted the Australian comics to be exactly like the UK ones (at least you still have Junk Mail!)...because the Australian ones are basically exactly the same as the US ones but with a thicker cover/inside paper, and with ads relating to other Simpsons books rather than random ads for other companies that Bongo puts in the US books.
Australia ended up stealing the idea of The Best of the Simpsons from the UK, however unlike the UK they only reprint one issue at a time, rather than putting two in it (which makes me really mad :angry: )

You should have emailed the US editions when they still had Junk Mail -- mine was printed like two weeks after I sent it...ironically it was the last letter they actually printed

Of course I don't know how the UK editions work so they may not include any of the US/Aus letters.

Make sure to pick up a copy of the new Simpsons Comics #125 soon. It features a story with art by Carlos Valenti, and this is his first Simpsons work. The story is about Maggie, but with most of the dialogue by Rev. Lovejoy and Ned Flanders.
There's also a story by Jesse McCann, where Bart and Milhouse go camping.

It should be good, considering the next two issues sound fairly uninspired. In #126 we have another three-parter issue, and in #127 the Simpsons get stranded. You can tell how crap that story will be when considering the title of it is "Simpsons Family Robinson".

Ancient Legends or something. Here's the synopsis:

Ala-diddly-addin and His Magic Lamp. Apu Baba and the Four Thieves. SinBart the Sailor. They’re all here as Sheherezade fights for her life by weaving an abridged and adulterated Arabian nighttime adaptation for King Moemar Shahryar!

I guess I don't really enjoy the three-parters as much as I used to since there was a time a couple years ago where they released five three-parters within around a year and a half of each other (I think they were #62, #70, #76, #79, #80, and #81) wait...that's six...and three of them were in a row! Heh, I enjoyed most of those issues, maybe this one could live up to them and be good...

Not too happy with the latest UK issue. I just found it really dull, especially compared to what I could have seen in the US one.

There is one good thing, though - for once they didn't use CBG!

The one that was released yesterday was the one based on 'Simpsons Spin off showcase' (with Chief Wiggum P.I and those other spoofs). Ironically, I remember complaining a while back about how this wasn't released in the UK. What a disappointment.

The reason I'm a CBG hater is because he has appeared so many times throughout the comics, while Lovejoy has appeared so little.

Lucky you! I don't suppose seeing the Lovejoys make out in 'The Monkey suit' made that situation any better for me... (especially since I'd been drawing them doing that long before that episode was out. Wait, did I just say that out loud?)

Do you know what really annoyed me? That scene at Wiggum's funeral... guess who was(n't) there? Yet in another comic they showed him doing the funeral of a daredevil who was buried in a glass coffin. They had no excuse this time. :-$
