For all Aust. readers: Simpsons Comics #120 is now out. It comes with a free poster (which was also in US #113*). However, I thought they would put the poster in #121, since that comes out just before Christmas (although since we got the doorhangers in #119 and the poster in #120, it may mean we could start getting regular freebies...)

*The difference between the US and the Aus version of the poster is that the Aus one is slightly larger, and has no white space around the edge of it. The Aus one also includes the Bongo and Otter Press (Aus publisher) logos in the corner.

Also, Otter Press has re-released #100 in a special digest sized edition with a thick cardboard cover. It also has a free poster titled "100 issues commemorative poster".

Oh, oh no. I just saw the cover for Super Spectacular #4, and they're going to use the Screamapillar from The Frying Game in it...

Also, found the official synopsis for Simpsons Comics Beach Blanket Bongo! (Or, as I call it, "The Big Book of Boothby", since he wrote all the main stories in it...). From the description we only know there will be five issues (#71-#75) included, but another synopsis at HarperCollins also lists #70 being in it too.

Also, the title for Simpsons Comics #127 is very bad. It's called "Simpsons Family Robinson".

The comics...the comics...well, I'm far too cheap to get anything but the collections...the stories are pretty good, I suppose, although the Halloween ones are still my faves.

And (correct me if I'm wrong) the no-Phil-Hartman rule doesn't apply to the comics: bring on Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz! (I think McClure put in an appearance recently, not sure though)

Yeh, he was in #112. However, since he was retired from the show he should have been retired from the comics.

Also, for those people wanting #100 to come to TPB: I advise you to keep looking on eBay or something, the Australian re-release is actually in TPB form, with a free poster in the back.

I agree, we need more appearences by hartman's characters. That dumb thing they did with making Gil a lawyer was a bit pointless when they could've used Lionel Hutz instead.

I have to say, well done Bongo. This last year (mainly issues #114 to #123) have been absolutely outstanding, one of the best years (IMO).

Remember what I said earlier about being able to handle it after that other issue? Well, I don't know, now (although ONE line? they actually made her speak? ) Although, is it me or does she bear in a eerie resemblance to Amy Wong in that picture?
Anyway...dear God, that was scary. Not as scary as the thought of the Screamapillar actually starring in a comic, though...

Incidentally, I recently bought Simpsons Comics Super Spectacular #2, and Helen appeared... as a slave. (and she STILL got less attention than CBG!NS Are they trying to tell me something?

You're right, I miss Phil Hartman very much, and I was very unreverent there. Maybe Itchy was wrong...sorry, Itchy...

Since you're a Burns fan, can I ask, do you like how he was included in a lot of the comics a few years ago (because I noticed somehow a lot of comics ended up including him appearing sometime in the story, and there's a lot that have him as a main character in them). It's only recently I've realized he hasn't shown up as much (ie: #111, #112, #114, #1116, #117, #120, #123), but there are still some where he makes great appearances (particularly the very great "screw the audience" joke in #121).

Okay, guess I can confess my awful, partisan habit: I go to the bookstore, make a beeline for the collections, buy the collections, search rabidly for stories featuring Monty Burns, and then read those first.

And I do agree about the lack of Mr. Burns appearances, but as you said, he has made some great ones these past few years! Is it just me, or have the comics been a little fairer on him?

I especially liked him in 109 where he opened the museum to try and make himself look good -- he seemed right on character then, trying to manipulate his image and such.

Unlike the series, which had Mr. Burns' character peak during around seasons 5-7, the comics have been working their way up slowly, which has better results (like the issue I mentioned before)

Yes, yes I remember the museum bit. Man, reading things like that makes me all nostalgic inside for the days when Mr. Burns was portrayed as that selfish, image-obssessed megalomaniac I originally fell in love with.

It's those little things that make reading the comics such a joy to me.

As long as they're used properly in a way that's true to the characters, I doubt Hartman will start to spin in his grave.

Heh, I haven't bought any of those Books of Wisdom. I read on the inside flap of one of those books that they were planning a Mr. Burns' Book of Manual Labor, but I've heard little about it since. My, I am obsessive in a totally different way...

Apparantly they are going to do the list on the inside flaps. They do two each year, and are released sometime around October. The next two are The Book of Moe and Ned Flanders' Book of Faith, both of which appear on that list. So maybe the Burns one will be out 2008 at the earliest.

Remember, it may be out 2008 considering they're doing main characters like Ned and Moe now, it would only make sense for them to do a Mr. Burns book next (as well as maybe a Marge book?).

I was remembering the "screw the audience joke" in #121 you mentioned earlier.

Was it this one?

Homer is talking to Lenny and Carl and bad-mouthing Burns:Homer then sees him and Smithers standing there looking menacing...and it turns out to be a motivational poster ("We're Watching You!). Homer is quite relieved-and then the real Burns and Smithers step through the poster, looking exactly like their likenesses did.

Was it that screw the audience joke? I'm not sure; I seem to have lost the copy. (I KNEW one day my lack of organization would come back to hit me in the face...)
