I'm not sure if we know this, but another synopsis of Homer Simpson - This Is Your Wife from comicscontinuum:

"On a 'Trading Spouses'-type show, Homer is forced to take in a controlling wife, while Marge moves in with a beaten-down husband, Charlie."

This confirms that the wife moving in with the Simpsons is strict, probably trying to shape the kids and Homer into better people. I hope it doesn't turn into a repeat of Sharry Bobbins, though.

Simpsons Math has a good interview up now with Jeff Westerbrook. Reveals some new info/hints:

Sarah: I really like that joke. You mentioned that there might be a Lawrence Summers related episode? [Girls Just Want to Have Sums]

Jeff: There is. We already had that table read. That was a very difficult episode in some ways, because we wanted to deal with it, but we didn't want to toe any ideologically obvious line either way, so it was hard to come to a satisfying end, but we probably came to an interesting place, I hope. Lisa does a lot of math in that. There certainly were one or two pretty simple math things, because she is after all in second grade. I don't think we did anything really complicated.

    Sarah: She's smart, but...

Jeff: Stu (DTB's note: that's J. Stewart Burns) and I wanted to try and shoehorn in the Euler Konigsberg bridge tour problem. So Stu and I spent about a half an hour trying to get that into a simple joke, but didn't manage.

Sarah: Oh... Sorry to hear that.

Jeff: Oh don't give up... We will keep fighting for that somehow or other.

    Sarah: Cool!

Jeff: So there is that coming up. We have an evolution episode coming up too.

    Sarah: When might these appear?

Jeff: These are all season 17, so they'll be appearing probably next spring, I would guess. Stuart wrote the evolution episode. That was really a lot easier to write, to be quite honest. It was much easier to take the correct ideological position on that than the women in math stuff.
    http://www.mathsci.appstate.edu/~sjg...interview.html

Also, if you go to the spot in the interview with that same text, there's a link to a page about "Girls Just Want to Have Sums", which contains another link to a newsletter (Association for Women in Mathematics) which reprints that portion of the interview, and adds this:

A few months later, Jeff showed us portions of a preliminary “animatic,” pictures of a storyboard synchronized with the soundtrack, from the upcoming women and mathematics episode that he mentioned in the interview. The amusing animatic revealed separate girls and boys mathematics classroom environments. Lisa Simpson, who has always been portrayed as intelligent and good at mathematics and science in addition to other subjects, wanted to work on problems instead of embracing the cooperative learning environment found in the girls’ class, and so she peered into the boys’ classroom window to work on the boys’ problems from there. Regardless of the final product, this episode is sure to be a great opportunity for continued discussion about women in mathematics, and a chance to expose a large viewing public to some of the related issues. The title of the episode parodies the title of Cyndi Lauper’s song Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Look for The Simpsons episode Girls Just Want to Have Sums to air in the Spring or Fall of 2006.

Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

YA! That just got me extremely excited about Girls Just Want To Have Sums! Now I'm looking forward to that episode. It sounds like a lot of effort was put into it, even more than most eps.
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

Well, I hate Maths, but love The Simpsons, so I'm not sure about this episode.
That confirms the titles Binky found, too.

It sounds good, though it also sounds like an "in the news" episode (people saying boys and girls should be separated in class). Really, though, it isn't a big topic like war where it'll lose its value over time. "Girls Just Want To Have Sums" isn't a very good title, to be honest, but still sounds good. It'll be nice to have another school episode.

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

  9. #1899

Well, at least it sounds kind of original. I'm bad with maths and I'm not very interesting in the subject, but it seems kind of an intelectual thing to do in a tv series.

Bit confused about what that episode is even supposed to be about...

    Thanks SF!

Sounds better now, with the added bits. Marge not liking the idea and Lenny involved are plusses

Yes! I have a bit more confidence. Sounds like a very strong plotline.

If Tress is the voice of the wife, and uses the same voice she uses for almost every other female character I'll scream!

  16. #1906

Oh yeah. I can't stand that. That's the Lindsey Naegle type voice you're refering, right? Eh. She also will do that cat lady voice a lot.

(and they win a trip to the Fox Studio Lot) I can't wait to see the jokes about Fox. Also doesn't Fox have a Trading Spouses copy called Wife Swap

Yup! This will be funny. I'm very confident about this episode.
This season looks like it will end up turning out better than 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11! (in my opinion) because there have been many great eps! Ulthough this might change judging on how the rest of the episodes turn out.

Trading Spouses is on Fox. I think ABC had a show called "Wife Swap" for a short time a few years ago.

^And Wife Swap is quite big in Britain, probably why Gervais used that. The synopsis of the episode sounds very good.

The start to this season wasn't so great, but I think it has definately been building up. If the following episode turn out to be as good as the sound(save Bart gets taking hostage by a Chimp) then we're instore for a great second half of a season. If these episodes are amazing, then it could just make up for the atrocious first half of the season(I'm sorry it's my opinion, though).

Excellent news A nice string of episodes to look forward to.

The title, intrests me. I presume Abe wins a million? I kind of hope not, as it's already been done, where Abe wins money. Though yet again, it could be a good idea from a different angle. Hopefully that different angle won't include Tim Long's wackiness!

It's probably that episode dealing with assisted suicide that Al Jean had mentioned in an interview a few months ago.

I am not even going to attemp to read the previous 63 pages that came before this....

This is my first real post here, just wanted to say. Anyway, I think the best episodes this season have been the episode where Lisa's room is next to the graveyard, and Milhouse of Sand and Fog. Both were hillarious.
