Every rerun has had a good reason behind it. The gap in October was for Baseball. The Dec. 4th rerun was because sweeps just ended, most networks had reruns that week. Next week is the 24 premier, the week after that is Football, and the Feb 5th rerun is because of the Super Bowl. Nobody puts up new stuff against the Super Bowl.

no way is fox giving up the simpsons. it's one of the things going well for the network... if anything, I don't think they'd ever want the series to end.

The show will only end after the producers say so

The show is still profitable. FOX is not going to end it. They basically aired a marathon of episodes last Sunday.

Maybe the reason they put so many gaps is so they can compete with other networks later in the season and also draw the usual Simpsons fans on Sundays to some of their other shows.

Ya, you guys are right. I dont know what i was thinking. LOL! Fox needs the Simpsons.
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

    It's confirmed now.

    5th Feb:
    7pm Treehouse Of Horror XVI
    7:30pm Simpsons Christmas Stories
    8pm The Italian Bob

They're advertising it as a Simpsons/Family Guy marathon night, which basically means a bunch of repeats.

Wow, showing the Halloween and Christmas episode right in a row? I hate it when there are repeats. The week goes by slower when there is nothing to look forward to on the weekend.

No new episode on February 12 EITHER? Zap2it has Milhouse of Sand and Fog listed for 8pm eastern and no new titles. Maybe it's an error or Fox hasn't actually scheduled, because isn't it sweeps anyway?

in my ideal world, the homer as a terrorist episode would be done like "The Springfield Files" and Kiefer Sutherland would play Jack Bauer.

Well considering that they have 9 more DVD sets to release before this one, you're probably right. If they keep going at this rate of a DVD set every 4 months here are approximate release months, however they might wait until more opportune times to put them out on the shelves:

    April 2006 - Season 8
    August 2006 - Season 9
    December 2006 - Season 10
    April 2007 - Season 11
    August 2007 - Season 12
    December 2007 - Season 13
    April 2008 - Season 14
    August 2008 - Season 15
    December 2008 - Season 16
    April 2009 - Season 17

Here is the thread discussing future release dates in Android's Dungeon.

They're not going by four-month intervals anyway. The only reason there was a four-month gap between seasons six and seven was that they scheduled season six for August instead of June or July. They're doing two a year, going by every summer and winter, and the exact month/date each set gets released on is based around competing releases and other factors like that. But anyway, this stuff should probably be restricted to the threads in the Android's Dungeon.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

If you do it by two a year (assuming the crew still do commentary on every episode) then S17 will be released on DVD just in time for Christmas 2010.

More info. on Jazzy and the Pussycats.

Earlier this week we broke that the White Stripes were to appear on The Simpsons. MTV.com has given further details on their appearance.

The Stripes have been tapped to appear in an upcoming episode of the long-running FOX 'toon, scheduled to air sometime this fall. In the episode, titled "Jazzy and the Pussycats," Jack and Meg White find themselves in the middle of a family feud when Homer and Marge buy a drum kit for Bart, who becomes a jazz drummer, much to the dismay of his musically inclined sister, Lisa. In one scene — an homage to the Stripes' clip for "The Hardest Button to Button," Bart bashes his kit in his bedroom, down the street, through the halls of Springfield Elementary and into an intersection, where he meets up with the Detroit duo.

According to a spokesperson for FOX, Jack and Meg recorded their lines in New York on November 30, before Jack lost his voice and was ordered by doctors not to speak. The episode isnt expected to air until season 18.

It sounds quite good, but Bart just happening to run into them on an intersection? That's a pretty poor way to introduce a guest star. I reckon this episode will either be the S17 finale or the S18 premiere.

What with Fox scheduling at the moment, it seems likely that there will be double-bills of new episodes in May, like last season. Also, Malcolm In The Middle has its last ever episode on 14th May - Fox is bound to throw in a few new Simpsons to get the ratings up.

Double-bill? Is this were they broadcast two premiere episodes on one night? That would be sweet.

I don't really like the idea of Jazzy, I mean Bart already had a guitar and this plot just sounds, well, stupid. And it sounds like the Stripes will be needlessly thrown in. And I don't really like the idea of homaging 'The Hardest Button To Button' since it's not even particularly well known. I would've liked a Seven Nation Army parody.

I'm not particulary keen on that bit of the idea either, it'll just be a quick joke but I don't like the white stripes. nothing against them particulary though. and I don't like obvious refrences and homages to modern things like that. It could easily be something that dates the show.

    FEBRUARY 12

Repeat the episode Millhouse of Sand and Fog

  23. #1643

Hmm, that seems very strange... After all, February is a sweeps month. They should be scheduling the show to air at least 3 times during February.

I was so excited at the beginning of the season when they started early, but now with all of these reruns they might just fall right back into the problem they had last season when they ran out of time and had six episodes to air in three weeks. Every week that they had an hour of the Simpsons the second episode pulled in fewer viewers than the first, and personally I prefer watching premiere episodes one at a time. The schedule is really starting to bug me, especially since there are episodes coming up that I've been looking forward to all season (like My Fair Laddy and Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife).

  26. #1646

Wasn't it the opposite actually? The second episode always doing better than the first.

I'm getting the feeling this is purposeful (though Feb. is a bad time for them to be airing two repeats in a row). It definitely seems like they want to do what they did last year, having three double-features in a row in May. I don't think it was a matter of them running out of time last year either; they definitely planned it for the sake of that stupid "Animation Domination" gimmick. They obviously wanted two new episodes each night to attract viewers to Family Guy and American Dad later.

I do also prefer to watch one new episode at a time though. I don't generally like watching a whole hour of tv at once actually. And airing over a fourth of the season in one month is kind of annoying, particularly because of the weird scheduling that occurs the rest of the season as a result.

But it's still rather stupid, considering that they've had enough holdovers from last season and all. They could easily cover February sweeps and have May double-features if they wanted too. They could have a 25 episode season and still have 4 holdovers for the 18th, but from the looks of things it looks as though it'll be 22 again, perhaps 23 if lucky.

And Fox is going to have to have a few seasons with at least 23 or more episodes sometime or the last season will be a 28 to 30 episodes. Airing three episodes before the THoH looked like a good start to finally minimise the holdovers for Season 18, but it appears they've hammed it up again, and once again there'll be 6 or 7 holdovers from the 17th Season kicking off the 18th. After all, HABF17, HABF18 and HABF19 have all been said to be airing next season. God forbid if they pulled a HABF23 in this production run.

But don't you think it'll be more profitable for FOX to air the holdovers left after season 20 (or whatever the last production season will be) as another short season? Maybe there will be 10-13 holdovers by then, enough to fill up an entire Jan - May season!

    Red Face

I dunno... I'd hardly call it going out with dignity to have a 20 year old plus show finish on a dingy, holdover half-season...

Not that the show has that much dignity left as it is anyway...

  30. #1650

There's no reason they couldn't have one long, non-stop (or closer to it) season also. It wouldn't be a bad gimmick for the final season to have more episodes than usual.
