UPDATE: in a new article in TV guide. They said that Al Jean convinced Kiefer Sutherland to guest star as an army colonel in an episode where Homer is mistaken for a terrioist. The white stripes will also show up in an episode where Bart is so hyperactive, that Homer and Marge give him a drum kit and he becomes a jazz drumer, making Lisa jealous. Other future guest stars include Mandy Moore as a sexy vixen named Tabitha Vixx, Richard Lewis and Fran Drescher as the voices of Golem in a halloween episode. But there is one star viewers should not expect "We wrote a part for Tom Cruise, for an episode where Bart wanted a big brother," says Jean. "We didn't even make fun of him. We were told he wanted to do it, but he didn't"

Kiefer is probably the "veteran character actor" mentioned in that article then.

Anyway, thanks BartLisa35. Interesting stuff there.

That's probably Jazzy and the Pussycats.

But there is one star viewers should not expect "We wrote a part for Tom Cruise, for an episode where Bart wanted a big brother," says Jean. "We didn't even make fun of him. We were told he wanted to do it, but he didn't"
Is that referring to "Brother From the Same Planet?" It was discussed on the season four DVD commentary that Phil Hartman stepped in after a celebrity declined to play the big brother. Hopefully he doesn't mean that for an upcoming episode because that would be a big offender for recycling plots.

I'm almost 100% certain he's talking about BFTSP. He's talked about that before.

Homer mistaken for a terrorist? Interesting that Jazzy will be about Bart and not Lisa but it sounds OK.

I'm excited about D'ohwhere...if they get the stolen key thing out of the way quickly maybe we could have 22 minutes of pure dialogue inside the car. Could it work? Just talking, no crazy twists, just funny dialogue? And they shoudn't get out of the car at all. 22 minutes inside a car swapping humourous dialogue and eventually bonding, deciding to ditch the camp and then drive off into the sunset towatds Vegas. Well, everyones saying they need to take more risks with the show, I don't see why they couldn't do something like this and have it be classic.

^ It'd be great if they took that kind of risk but the Jean era has hardly been known for envelope-pushing episodes. The most I can hope for is that it doesn't descend into Maximum Homerdrive-esque crap.

I'm looking forward to the jazz episode, it sounds good, even if it has more Bart than Lisa. It could be an interesting Bart-Lisa conflict. Some of their recent conflicts have been a little formulaic and tiresome, I hope this would be better. I wouldn't mind even if there were two jazz episodes...like I said a zillion times, Lisa's music talent is something they should do more episodes about.

Well, yeah that is kinda what I was thinking of...an episode about almost nothing. But there would be the bonding side of things so it wouldnt be a total...nothing. Seriously though I think the simpsons need to make some drastic changes in the humour department.

I just had a thought... wouldn't it be interesting if Kiefer's character was named Colonel Hurlbutt?

  12. #1602

Hmm, when they say "Golem", are they referring to this or to Gollum from LotR?

Hmm...that would make more sense actually. Seems to fit a THOH theme slightly more at least, and the fact that it's from jewish folklore would probably explain why Fran Drescher would be doing that. No LOTR I guess, which is sort of a relief (aside from it being done to death by now on other shows, it just doesn't fit any better than Harry Potter).

  14. #1604

Yes but there have been several THOH segments that werent very Halloween-y including older ones: The Raven, King Kong, Time and Punishment, Attack of the 50 ft. Eyesores and others. I really wouldn't have minded a LOTR spoof but looks like its not happening.

I do like the idea of D'ohwhere being almost pure dialouge, although I'm it could still work well with just a few long stretches of dialouge or scenes inside the car.

And as for a LOTR THOH segment I wouldn't object because of it being overdone, I just don't think it would lend itself well to a 7 minute segment. although Imagine if they had, (and it wouldn't have to be for a lotr parody) a 3 or 2 part THOH segment that carries on the next year, it would avoid the problem of not wanting to break the 3 parter rule, and it would mean they could do an extended horror story.

I don't think they'd do a LOTR segment anyway - there was one in Simpsons comics' THOH issue a few years ago.

To expand on one of the uses of Golem. I remember reading that the story of Golem was the origin of Frankenstein. While they have done some parodies of Frankenstein during THoHs they have mostly focused on the movies and the horror aspects of it, not the belief that man shouldn't be playing god.

I like the plot for Jazzy and the Pussycats - that sounds like a good idea for a Bart/Lisa episode.
And hopefully there will be a 24 parody in the episode with Kiefer Sutherland - that would be hilarious.
    Some promising episodes coming up!

Why yet another 3 week gap between episodes? Don't most shows just run 11 weeks of new stuff have a break and then do the next half? It's annoying to have so many big gaps.

Does anyone know the plot sypnosis for Million Dollar Abie?

thats fox, the same thing that killed family guy, futurama and is killing king of the hill, They don't wana make the football fans upset, its only the playoffs and super bowl. Simpsons and Football are sunday so one has to change i think make sunday football and put the simpsons back on thursday. Or make the football games stop by the time king of the hill is on. even if the game is in the 3rd 1/4 then they have to stop or play faster.

    what ever.

A bit more detail on HABF04 We're On The Road To D'ohwhere.

"While messing around in the school’s steam tunnels, Bart and Milhouse trigger an explosion that destroys Principal Skinner’s car."

    From: www.thesimpsons.com

I like the just dialogue idea of On the Road to D'ohwhere although I am almost positive it won't happen. Although some here would love it, I'm sure it would be attacked by most fans for having no plot. But like HT said, it could still be good.

Jazzy and the Pussycats also sounds good. I'm just really looking forward to the White Stripes, and I really hope it isn't just small appearence even though it probably will be.

And finally, Homer suspected to be a terrorist, ehhhhh, I don't know about that. Could be a stinging political commentary, just an fun episode that turns out really great, or a complete crapfast. We'll have to see.

What time does the Super Bowl start on February 5? Zap2it has no new episode for that night so far, but another three-episode marathon of Treehouse of Horror XVI, Simpsons Christmas Stories and The Italian Bob from 7-8:30 eastern.

  24. #1614

Wow, does Zap2it have listings that far ahead now?

They're not actually in the grid, but clicking Other Episodes after you click on a Simpsons episode gives you titles of everything airing in the next few weeks, including ones not listed on the schedule grid yet. I have a feeling it's not real though. A three-episode Simpsons rerun before the Super Bowl just doesn't sound right. Doesn't it normally begin before 8:30 eastern each year anyway?

the superbowl is on ABC this year, so what's playing on FOX has nothing to do with it.

I would have expected something just like this for that night. Fox never shows new Simpsons up against the Superbowl on other channels.

This season has had many large gaps between episodes (much like Futurama did). Is this a posible sign of cancellation within the next few years? Fox has hinted at cancellation before, but only after the 19th season. If they're not going to renew the show, is this just their way of not really caring anymore. And with the Simpsons movie coming out within the next few years, and an end drawing nearer, maybe fox has just said "who cares?"
she didnt exactly read shrek the 3rd, which apparently exists as some sort of companion book for a pixar movie. no, this would probably take several minutes (perhaps 10), and would have ultimately depricated the shrek 3 cinematic experience

she merely looked at the book

she saw it, perhaps in the childrens section of a barnes & noble, registered it in her mind as being in existance, and filed it away for later as the subject for a post on BOOKS YOUVE READ. only she just looked at it. and it was shrek 3

in a way its the saddest post ive ever read

While this scheduling is weird, I doubt it has anything to do with them not caring. If the show was rating badly that would be one thing, but it's still one of their top shows. If I had to guess, it's probably just that they want to preserve some episodes for some other purpose later, perhaps more double-features in May like last year.

If anything, Fox does care about the show. And I forgot that Super Bowl switched channels every year or so. I'm not a football person so I thought it was on Fox every year. O_o But yeah, nothing new on February 5 either, obviously.
