Sounds like Corkus was right - except Lisa's telling the tales:

LISA TELLS A NEVER-ENDING STORY ON “THE SIMPSONS” SUNDAY, MARCH 12, ON FOX

While cave exploring with his family, Homer causes the cave to crumble and finds himself stuck upside down in the ceiling. Marge and Bart search for help while Lisa passes the time by telling Homer a story, which turns into a chain of narrated tales in THE SIMPSONS episode ”The Seemingly Never-Ending Story” airing Sunday, March 12 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT). (SI-1706) (TV-PG D, L, V)

Voice Cast: Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson, Mayor Quimby and Groundskeeper Willie, Julie Kavner as Marge Simpson and Patty; Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson and Nelson Muntz; Nelson, Ralph and Kearney; Yeardley Smith as Lisa Simpson; Harry Shearer as Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns and Smithers; Pamela Hayden as Milhouse; Hank Azaria as Cletus and Carl.
Sounds pretty good - like 22 Short Films About Springfield.

No guest stars listed for that one either. This season must be almost at a guest star low so far. Not that that's a bad thing, but just an observation. Plus I've had the feeling over the past two seasons that their guest list has been drying up a bit:

GABF18: The Bonfire of the Manatees
Alec Baldwin as Dr. Caleb Thorn
Joe Mantegna as Fat Tony d'Amico

GABF16: The Girl Who Slept Too Little
    NONE

GABF19: Milhouse of Sand and Fog
    NONE

    GABF17: Treehouse of Horror XVI
    Terry Bradshaw as Himself
    Dennis Rodman as Himself

    GABF20: Marge's Son Poisoning
    NONE

    GABF21: See Homer Run
    NONE

GABF22: The Last of the Red Hat Mamas
    Lily Tomlin as Tammy

    HABF02: The Italian Bob
Maria Grazia Cucinotta as Francesca Terwilliger
Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob Terwilliger

    HABF01: Simpsons Christmas Stories
    NONE

    HABF03: Homer's Paternity Coot
    Joe Frazier as Himself
    William H. Macy as Himself
    Michael York as Mason Fairbanks

    HABF04: We're On the Road to D'ohwhere
    NONE

    HABF05: My Fair Laddy
    NONE (probably)

    HABF06: The Seemingly Neverending Story
    NONE (probably)
    - Kenneth White

"Even if The Simpsons is better than 95% of everything else on TV, that doesn't automatically make it good."

What happened to all the drawings that Heub posted on page 46?

  5. #1805

Oh wow, I guess I was wrong about "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore". Zap2it says "Bart Has Two Mommies" is going to air on the 19th now.

Thanks for all this new info! It's a good thing I discovered Zap2it has listings for a month in advance. *cough* I don't really understand The Seemingly Neverending Story though. It sounds like it'll be a different format episode which is good...but what exactly? Maybe Lisa saying "Remember the time where"...some story is told (not a clipshow, but just random stories about characters)...Homer saying "That reminds me of"...another story told...repeat this a lot of times. I don't know but it sounds interesting.

Zap2it appears to only give the first act descriptions that lead up to the real plot, I think:
While cave exploring with his family, Homer causes the cave to crumble and finds himself stuck upside down in the ceiling.
When Bart accidentally destroys Willie's shack with a game of solid-ice dodge ball, Marge takes in the homeless janitor.
We're on the Road to D'ohwhere's just mentioned Bart causing havoc at school and being sent to miliary camp.
Homer's Paternity Coot just mentioned the 40-year-old mailman thing.

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

    Hey, maybe it's a clipshow!

    Actually, that might be good...

Thanks for the info Binky and Simpsons Forever!

In terms of this show being a clip show, that could be fun, but I doubt it. Clip shows seem to be a thing of the past, but I'd be up for it if Lisa was telling Homer stories about the people of Springfield.

I hope the stories are just everyday events in the style of "22 Short Films..." and not related to any kind of historical tales such as "Margical History Tour" or "Simpsons Tall Tales", not because those episodes aren't entertaining, purely for the fact that an episode in the style of "22 Short Films..." would be nice to see again.

Oakley and Weinstein were quite insistant that their guest stars befitted the roles and thats a good mantra to remember - for me personally, no guest star could match Ricky Gervais' episode.

that'd be cool if it was like 22 short films. Now I have two questions is there a description on bart has two mommies that very title raises questions it's obviously a bart-centric episode, and are ther gonna be more gaps between episodes in march?

    1. There's no official description, but we've speculated that judging by production art, it may be where Bart gets adopted by a chimp (or gorilla or something).
    2. There's going to be episodes on March 12, 19 and 26.

So it's a Bart meets animal episode? We haven't had one of those since...Bart Gets An Elephant?

Next, he really will get a bear...

  15. #1815

I hope that The Seemingly NES isn't a clip show or another trilogy of tiresome historical segments. If it is in the style of 22 Short Films it could be excellent or really lame...sort of like Bart to the Future could've been excellent like Lisas Wedding but was instead really lame. To tell the truth I'm getting sick of all these odd-format episodes...THOHs, Clip Shows, Historical/Christmas trilogies...I was hoping that TSNES would just be a nice, regular style episode. I mean we've already had the Christmas thing...and The Wettest Stories Ever Told is coming up...how many of these are they gunna do every year?? Oh well, I was looking forward to this episode a lot more, a LOT more, before I found out what it was about, but we'll see what happens. At least This is Your Wife looks promising.

  16. #1816

Agreed about the trilogies and clip shows (however much of a non-issue the latter may be, and I truly think they're a non-issue and that this won't be a clip show), but I don't see the issue here. It sounds like the stories (or story, as the case may or may not be) will be within the normal Springfield universe, so I'm happy. Logically, with over 350 episodes now I think the writers are going to have to experiment more, Bill and Josh style, to keep the show fresh. This sounds like an experiment, and if so, great. We need something to break up the monotonous, dull, through-the-motions feeling the show has sometimes had lately.

It could suck, for sure, but if nothing else I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out and what they do with it. If nothing else, it sounds like an interesting idea.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

  17. #1817

Have to agree with you about that. At least there getting out there, and trying something different and a bit risky. I've always said they need to take more risks if they're gunna make any drastic improvements to the show so I suppose I should at least be happy about that.

    Oh shit oh . . . . I've got nothing to hide, I swear!

Anyway, as for SNES(not the game console you dumbass) I think this episode has a lot of potential. What I would really like though i if Lisa started telling a story, and it ended very promptly. But Homer insisted on more, and Lisa didn't have anymore so she starts to make up one long story that she strings together as she goes along. It would be kind of hard to convey that Lisa is making the whole thing up without making the story goofy, but I really like that idea. Meanwhile, they could have Homer slowly acting stranger as the blood rushes to his head. I know this sounds odd, but if they wrote it right, I would like it.

And I agree with DTB about them having to experiment. I think that could end up being a good thing. Obviously, if every episode was one with a unique format I wouldn't like it, but if they had three or four differently formatted episodes each season, I could deal with that. As long as they do that, and continue to keep the regular episodes plots, which they have pretty much done this year, then I think the show will be okay.

Interesting or maybe it's a flashback episode of some sort but instead of telling of the simpsons past she tells about the pasts of a few secondary characters like 22 short films but the past instead of the present.

Perhaps it's due to the recent audio commentaries being done on the Oakley/Weinstein episodes, but the current season's episodes and beyond's seem to be taking a leaf out their book -

There is an abundance of flashy guest stars, just the ones that befit the role
    &
New episode styles seem to be introduced.

Perhaps Bill and Josh's mantra of having episodes that had emotional impact over comedy all the time made an impact on the current staff on the show.

by the way, i noticed there was a thread asking why they were taking so long before airing the new episode, and they got linked to here...don't know if it's been cleared up already, but the reson why there's no new eps at the moment is because it's the winter olympics...so they have to air sports shows on the simpsons time slot i suppose...sunday evenings...overview of the sports that have been done that week...
If only I were in Springfield, all my friends would be cheering me on....Oh God I'm being delirious

It would be more surreal than 22 shorts, probably. That could go either way. As someone said the surreal Abe segment in the Xmas Special was a little half assed. I personally liked it for the most part but it could have been funnier with more surreal elements.

Anyway it seems that it could be ok, they'll probably show more secondary characters in this one.

I'm finding this year, while the art is beyond spectacular, the stories are not. SOOOOOOO.... are they saving the good stories for the movie, or is this a way to combat the FAMILY GUY contigent?

It's not that they're saving good stories for the movie or competing against Family Guy...it's just your opinion that the stories aren't that great.

  29. #1829

It's my opinion that the stories aren't that great, too. Maybe that's saying something?

  30. #1830

Possibly. But no more so then if you picked ten random people and found that six of them disliked "The Matrix". It's still just those peoples' opinion. In this case, the movie and Family Guy have nothing to do with it.
