I'd hate to hear Willie sing - "Doontoon" from Homer's Barbershop Quartet still haunts me.
I believe it has been confirmed from several news sources. There have been reports of a table reading where Dan Castellaneta performed a song named "Wouldn't It Be Adequate?" as Willie. It will be interesting to hear Willie singing, but either way this is my most anticipated episode of next season.

I think that was the first commercial for the new season tonight. But since it was a comined "new season" commercial for a bunch of shows, there was only a tiny bit of Simpsons shown.

Woah really? I hope they air it again tonight. Maybe I'll even be able to record it. Do you remember when exactly it aired by any chance?

EDIT: It didn't air after all. Oh well, maybe next Sunday they'll air another, even longer promo.

It aired just now right before the third act of "The Heartbroke Kid" for me. It was about 5 seconds of footage that featured Marge telling Homer to watch the kids, Homer crying with Fat Tony and Louie in the basement, and Homer with a movie crew staging models in the living room.

Yeah, I managed to record it, so I'll relay it to you in some form or another, later on tonight/early tomorrow.

It isn't a new commercial, unless this is a different one. I saw one during football advertising season premieres on Thursday night. I remember the commercial also had Homer tugging at his collar in bed twice (you know, that thing where something bad happens, so they pull at their shirt collar, which everyone at the NHC hates for some reason).

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

er...maybe I'm just easily offended--but there are some things that just aren't funny...It's my understanding that "The Simpons" usually make fun of current issues and stuff, but I guess I never had a problem with that before because I'm only 16 and most of the issues parodied or poked at in the past I never really knew much about/was a little kid when they occured. But seeing these new episodes (season 16) I am fully aware of the issues and how serious they are...and I find it difficult to see any humor in it. I mean, yes, a little...but it's just not as funny. Poking fun at assitsted suicide? Man, I can only imagine...that's just not cool.

The rest sound kind of interesting, though. The Sideshow Bob one sounds most interesting to me, actually.

    Good glayvin!

Yeah, because we all know how terrible "Homer's Triple Bypass" turned out.

Why? I've always liked knowing who wrote the episode before, it allows me to pay more attention to the show.

It would probably be due to copyright reasons.

When was My Fair Laddy confirmed as a musical episode? I really hope it isn't - the plot seemed good until someone mentioned singing.

I think it was just one brief score mentioned. There wasn't anything about this being "The President Wore Pearls 2".

Anyone else notice that the season premiere is going to be marked with a TV-14-DLV rating again according to the promo the other night? The show seems to be veering in edgier directions lately.

Edgy, racy jokes are fine with me, I just hope they don't let it control the show like South Park in it's earlier episodes. If they had maybe one episode a year that was racy, that would be fine with me, I mean, Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequecy came out very well, but can you imagine seeing 22 of those each season? That really isn't what the Simpsons is, and I hope they stick with the same formula of previous seasons.

I wouldn't. Like MattG said, racy jokes are okay with me, but if they start overdoing it like South Park or Family Guy the show wouldn't be the same anymore.

Racier episodes doesn't neccesarily mean better ratings though. And why couldn't they do racy episodes before? They've always had the oppurtunity, they just never did.

I don't think that has anything to do with the content of the show, but rather with the current administration's ever increasing agenda to censor everything to hell on TV.

Okay, here are the promised "Bonfire of the Manatees" promo screens:

    Edit: Transcript...

[NOTE: I cut out the part of the promo that was irrelevant to OFF.]

Announcer: The new FOX Sunday is coming, and our husbands are much more desperate. (Homer is shown standing in front of OFF’s house with the kids, arguing with Marge who is sitting in the driver’s seat of her car.)
Homer: Who’s gonna watch the kids?
    Marge: You are!
Homer: But I’m the father! (Cut to Homer in a backroom having his knuckles hammered by Louie as Fat Tony looks on.)
Announcer: First, Homer is forced into snuggle films, on The Simpsons Season Premiere, too hot for TV. (Scenes are shown of Homer, Fat Tony and the film crew in the kitchen and in the living room, setting up a shot with two female actresses dressed in astronaut’s outfits. Cut to Homer in bed where he is seen tugging at his collar and making the accompanying noise, twice.)
Announcer: […] The new FOX Sunday premieres September 11th.

Is that all? I thought Monty Can't Buy Me Love and Weekend at Burnsie's did, too.

    Thanks for the screencaps.

Thanks for the promo images, VN! And is it me, or have I seen that scene with Marge and Homer countless times in other episodes?

Yeah, it is fairly visually reminiscient of many other scenes.

vox's transcript, while detailed and accurate, is completely inaccurate. here's the actual promo dialogue (reader discretion is advised):

"But Marge, I did it for love!"

    "Love of not being arrested!"

"This is the worst thing you've ever done."

"Worst - are you sure? I mean, top five, maybe."

"You just don't get it, do you."

    [sobs uncontrollably]

"Oh stop crying, you big baby!"

"Marge! That's not very in-character of you."

"Yeah, the writers are playing off the audience's expectations again. Hilarious, huh?"

    "No, not really."

there was more, but i exceeded the image posting limit. shame too. had some real sharp OJ jokes coming up.
