Horrible, horrible episode. One of the first signs of what the Scully era would bring. D-

It was ok. I liked the episode myself, but it wasn't a classic, but it was good for that time being. Makes you wish they had episodes like these now lol. Over all I give this episode a 4/5 which is usually very rare of me since I like all of the old episodes. This one just didn't have the charm that other episodes had, but it was still good. Homer and Bart were awesome in the episode. But honestly how many look a likes are their of The Simpson’s lol.

    4/5

this is the best bit in the episode:

The kids make "ding ding" noises, wanting their allowence.
The noises the kids make are loud enough to make Homer run out of the kitchen thinking those 'ding!' noises are bells of an ice cream truck.

3/5 - Not exactly that great, but it could have been much, much worse.

Jim Varney as Cooder? Enough said.... I gave it a 4.5/5. Pretty classic, imo. Loved the part about the dinging noises as mentioned above, and also Homer's "Ass Groove" ending was hilarious. Had to mention it here. 4.5/5

Another crossroads season nine episode, but this one didn't quite rise up from mediocrity, mostly due to tasteless humour. C

Interestingly enough, this is actually one of Season 9's better episodes for me. A lot of Scully-era attributes are there, but in an average season like this one it seems good to have a high joke-per-minute ratio, which this episode had. My favourite bit was when Homer rode "The Tooth Chipper" and his heart was hurt more than his teeth. His admiration of carnies was also very funny. "Kings among men."

I gave it 4/5 on the poll, although in most other seasons it probably would have ranked lower for me.
Bart: "Please don't call our parents!"
Chief: "I'm afraid I have to for hijinks like these. Hijinks - it's a funny word. Three dotted letters in a row."
    Eddie: "Is it hyphenated?"
Chief: "It used to be, back in the good old days, you know. Of course, every generation hyphenates the way it wants to. Then there's *NSYNC! What the hell is that? Jump in any time there, Eddie, these are good topics."

Very middle of the road, but one of the more memorable eps for some reason...

I was thinking about this episode....well, right about now actually, given the season nine thread in GD right now. I rather hate this episode, and I think I know why. It practically started the "Jerkass Captain Wacky goes on an adventure while straight-man Bart follows" genre. Even considering some episodes from the first eight seasons where Bart does in fact follow Homer around at some point or another, how many of them actually followed that dynamic? That is, how many of them had Homer being a complete moron while Bart simply followed him around and occasionally pointed out his idiocy, as opposed to be doing anything Bart-like? About the only thing that comes to mind is a scene or two of "Lisa's Rival", where Homer discovers sugar and Bart seems to be in the scene only to play off Homer's stupidity and point out the problems with Homer's plan.

This episode isn't quite as bad as a lot of the episodes it begot ("Maximum Homerdrive", "Sunday Cruddy Sunday", etc), but I still think it pretty bad. Homer is just way too braindead, perhaps more then he'd ever been up to this point, the story is bland and stupid, and there's rarely anything of real interest. It has a few memorable jokes (liked the tooth-chipper), but if it hadn't essentially started a specific running problem with the following three seasons, it would probably be one of the most forgettable episodes in the whole run of the series. C-/D+

2/5 (D+), and that's generous. Why is this getting 4's and 5's? This is the worst of season 9, and I'm sure it was the kickstart of the wacky stupidness that became all too familiar in the next few seasons. One or two good things, but there was far too much tasteless stuff for my liking.

    A tribute to Bart Simpson

You think THAT's bad? What about that time when I was turned into a Tetris block?
