Rate and Review: The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase

Watched for the first time last night

    Chief Wiggum P.I

Very dull, very boring and very unfunny. It had its moments very rarley though. But still trash. D/D-

The Moe one (don't know title)

A little better but still terrible. It was mostly unfunny though it was a little more entertaining than "Chief Wiggum P.I" C-

    Simpsons family:

Total Garbage. 1 or 2 odd jokes but unfunny, fairly dull and just plain stupid!

    Overall: D 1.5/5

    D-. Everything I laughed at in this episode is listed below;

    - "Chief Wiggum, P.I. will return...right now."
    - "Here's what's on tap for season nine"
    Season 25 Ratings
    Awful, probably

I don't understand the hate for this episode, people seem to lose their sense of irony and parody when watching it.

It's not too bad. It ain't good either, but parts of the parodies are good, especially The Love-Matic Grampa (including the canned laughter). B-/C+

It's so great that a lot of people here don't seem to get the jokes and therefore give it a bad grade. While not a great episode, this is an above average effort and had the final segment is great. A-

    Maybe your right.

SimplySimpsons was telling me last night how crap it was gonna be and I went in with negative anticipations. Maybe that's was caused a bad grade. So I will re watch.

I really don't like this episode, nor do I know why. All I know is that it gets a D from me.

A very weak and unfunny episode. The first two segments are average, the last one is horrible - C

I think the Simpsons have done plenty of stories, and I like it when they have the confidence to just take 20 minutes out to do something completely out of the context of the show but using all the characters and styles. I love shows like this and Behind The Laughter. The last section probably went over a lot of peoples heads in its references to variety TV from the 60s, hell I didn't get a lot of it but I could appreciate the style it was cribbing from.
Wiggum PI was great as well, being a fan of cheesey daytime TV detective shows as I am.

Smithers' liquorice whip, Jasper's lollypop songs wre hillarious, as was Osmodiar, 'damn straight Troy my man' Troy McClure was the glue holding it all together.

2/5. Overall it's pretty crappy, but for some reason I found Lisa's refusal to participate in the "Smile Time Variety Hour" (or whatever it's called) an interesting touch.

I'm willing to bet that most of you have absolutely no clue what the last segment is spoofing.

Didn't we just have this poll a month ago?

Anyway, since then I've grown to appreciate it a little more. Before it was a C-, now it's a B.

Yeah...THAT'S the main reason I hate this episode, IMO, the Worst Episode...EVER! Marge should have refused, what with her "I think this is a bad idea" image and what-not.

The other two wern't bad, but it was hardly great, and very, VERY boring.
    I'm just like Lisa!

Chief Wiggum P.I. isn't too bad, but the other two sucked. The last segment in particular is nothing short of embarrasing, and I don't really care if it was meant to be a parody of crappy live shows or whatever, it just shouldn't have happened. D, 2/5.

    Thumbs Down

C+. A very mediocre, mostly unfunny episode. Lisa was right not to get involved in such crap.
    Top 2 jokes:

2.Somebody had to take the babysitter home. Then I noticed she was sitting on-her-sweet-can. So I grabbed-her-sweet can. Oh, just thinking about-her-can. I just wish I had-her-sweet-sweet-s-s-sweet can!

    1. Homer-Hey you $#@*, you cut me off. $#*@ to you!
    Lisa- Dad, that's an ambulance
Homer-Right, honey. Hey ambulance! You think you're so big with your $@#^ *%$# siren. And your letters are on backwards!

    Top 3 THOH Qoutes:

    3. Selma as Homer runs naked across kitchen-There goes the last lingering thread of my heterosexuality.
    2. Delirious Mr. Burns-I was walking through the gas one day!
    1. Flanders-Hey, Homer, mind if I chew your ear
    (Homer shoots Flanders)
Bart-Dad, you killed the zombie Flanders
    Homer-He was a zombie?

I can't for the life of me see why so many people have slammed this episode. I think it's fantastic. For me, it's the benchmark of how far out the simpsons can go while still being hilarious. it perfectly illustrates and destroys the modern american TV show with an acidity I've never seen before in the simpsons. The gags, especially in Wiggum P.I., are perfectly pitched, while the simpsons smile time variety hour is painfully accurate.
The first, and dissapointingly last time I've seen the Simpsons bare its teeth.

    A+

    Chief Wiggum P.I 3/5

    The Moe one 4/5

    The final sketch 2/5

Overall : Nothing bad, but nothing that funny either. I understand the parody of the episode but its a very forgetable episode all in all.

This is an interesting episode unlike any other in the series. The main objective is obviously to slam various types of television shows, be it action-drama (Chief Wiggum P.I.), sitcom (Love-Matic Grampa), or weird variety shows (the latter segment), all while poking fun at the concept of a spinoff.

For the most part, I think this episode succeeds in what it does. Wiggum is an alright segment that lampoons the genre fairly well. It's a bit lacking in actual jokes, though, and the satire isn't as sharp as it could be. The Love-Matic Grampa, my favorite segment, has lots of good humor and pokes fun at the contrived storylines in sitcoms. Loved the bit with Moe going to the bathroom to get advice (very "sitcomish") as well as the canned audience going nuts when Homer appeared (complete with Homer playing it up). The final segment was odd, but fairly amusing regardless. The main problem was that it lampooned lame shows by being lame, and the result was sometimes lame regardless.

Even so, not a terrible episode, but probably the weakest of the eighth season. B-
