I'm not a huge fan of this one, simply because...I expected it to be so much more. I thought that it was going to turn into a classic "Simpsons Horror" (something like Cape Feare, done like a scary movie but actually hilarious) and then when Homer just leaves with no struggle at all...I was disappointed.
Maybe I s hould watch it again.
But as of now it's a 3/5 or 2/5 for me, can't decide.

Wouldn't it be great if The Simpsons Movie villain was Hank Scorpio? James L. Brooks says that he's not evil, ""He functions as someone who wants to bring an end to the world, yeah, but ..." and that he's played by Albert Brooks.

I seriously doubt it, but I'd be very happy.

However, I'm sure the new villain will be great.

Its undoubtably a 5/5, and one of the show's best episodes. But I will admit it to you, on its own merit as an episode in general I think its a 4/5. Its bumped to a 5/5 just because of Hank Scorpio alone. He is just that awesome a guest character. Guy has just so much character, and he was pretty damn funny too...and what makes it even more impressive is he managed to be so memorable based off of one episode alone. He easilly stole the show that whole episode from even Homer.

However, the episode itself has great merit to it too. Yeah the whole theme of "there's no place like home" has been done before but I think its fine to reuse some themes from time to time (this ridiculous thing some have over complaining about every single time a theme is reused is kind of baffling really.) but this episode took it in a cool little twist. By throwing the Simpsons into this almost prestine environment, it was kinda cool how it showed that the craziness and flaws of the world around them are kind of what defined them too. Thats why they went back. Well...except Homer, unfortunatly most of what Homer wanted he found there. lol But really it seems to me all Homer really wants is a little recognition and respect and he can make do with the rest, which is something not too specific to the town. I guess its kinda sad though, he had to give that up for the family, but thats what makes him Homer.

Good ep, funny. And Hank Scorpio, Mr. Epic. I love the ludicrousness of the idea that Homer found that respect he wanted from an international super villain.

Great point Kiyo, I never thought of it like that. Plus you're right that this episode would have only been really good instead of one of the best of all time without Scorpio. Briliant performance by Albert Brooks and excellent characterization to have an international super villan be Homer's greatest ally, while Homer is oblivious to Scorpio's villainous side. I really wish more episodes would feature Homer as an innocent type of stupid instead of being blatantly making him seem like a fool.

Hank Scorpio is what elavates this episode from being very good to brilliant.

I love evil supervillian characters in comedy and the fact that he was such a nice guy made it all the funnier. Albert Brooks did a great job with the voice as well. I also love how Homer's completly oblivious to the supervillianry, this is how Homer should be done. A great James Bond parody in there as well A+

Marge Bart and Lisa stories are pretty weak, but it is still a 5/5. That is how good everything else is.

My favorite joke is when Homer asks him for some sugar and Scorpio just dumps it out of his pockets and says "Sorry it's not in packets". For some reason that kills me.

This episode is awesome. Hank Scorpio is one of the best one-time characters. He's just so brilliant and unique, not to mention Albert Brooks does an excellent job portraying him. I love how he's a supervillian and has malicious intent, yet Hank's such a nice guy.

The episode is hilarious, start to finish. I like how the family finally finds a great place to live, free of the craziness of Springfield, and it seems like they're guaranteed to start living a wonderful life, yet all of them, except Homer, are unhappy. Bart's thrown into a "special" class (full of Ralph look-alikes. Genius. XD), Lisa get allergic reactions, and Marge finds life so dull, she's starts drinking. And then Homer, who finally finds respect at his new job, has to sacrifice it all for his family in the end.

Another aspect I like about the episode, is how Homer is so oblivious to Scorpio's evil mechanations the whole time. Especially during the scene where Scorpio's about to destroy James "Bont" with a raygun. That's one of the things I really love about Homer; there might be something else troubling him, yet in the end, he's missing the "big picture".

Anyway, fantastic episode. Easy 5/5

You know...I'm glad they decided not to use Hank as the villain in the movie. While it would have been amusing, he's just such an awesome guy in this despite his supervillain status that I'd hate for that character to be turned into a total actual villain.

It's still one of the best episodes in the series. Funny because you just know if this episode came now we'd be bitching about the premise like crazy, and it is a crazy premise but you know...it all just worked really really well. If it works it works.

Also, I have a mixed reaction on how Hank Scorpio could have been the villain of the movie. He is a bit similar than Cargill and could have added a more humour to the dark space of the movie, but he's a bit more into destroying states and causing more destruction instead of being concerned about the enviroment and causing a dome over Springfield. It just ain't him; in the episode, he destroyed a bridge and took over the east of America, but a dome... eh, it ain't really similar.

Unless, you put a new disastor plot. Then that's a different story.
