I also think he looked more like a caricature of Reagan.

I had my hopes up for this. The ads looked funny, and I didn't read any of the reviews for it. I hope this doesn't last. I agree with everything DTB and Jafar said. The only things I found remotely funny were Roger, when he wasn't spewing out the green goo, and how the family room was similarly designed to the one on All in the Family. I loved Roger's line about E.T. As it's been said, it's just cliched and tired. Seriously, what's the point of Klaus? He's as bad as the talking fish in the Cat in the Hat movie.

it was okay. wasn't good, wasn't bad. seemed like a less zany family guy.

don't get mad guys. come may, when both series premiere, family guy will take the stage and american dad will sunk/suck. only one will survive i'm sure.

Not as bad as I was guessing, and not as boring as I was going into it thinking, but still needs a lot of work between now and May.

    Clever Moments:
-Jack in the Box Guy, and Roger's reaction to him
    -Francine's friend story

Did anyone notice that they ripped off the Family Guy pilot, when Roger fell thru the table. Reminded me exactly of the FG pilot.

I will watch in May, but on a trial basis.

I was fairly drunk after the super bowl, but I was not impressed. I'll have to give it another shot in May because frankly I've forgotten a lot of the jokes but the ones I remember were crap. The alien discharges happened like 5 times! And MacFarlane proved characters weren't his strong point in FG but there isn't one great character in this show.

Horrible, just bloody horrible. 99% of the jokes failed (the alien discharging goo, the Bush-Clinton recieving a call from God). I didn't really care for any of the characters, who were very one-dimensional. I don' t think this show will last. F

I thought it was very good. I especially liked all the republican jokes. Not quite as good as Family Guy, but watchable nonetheless...

The only funny part was Stan pretending to steal that girls purse and getting carried away. As everyone else has said, horrible.

It was a hell of a lot more entertaining than the Simpsons, tonight, but that's not saying much.

    3/5.

The correct answer to what NASCAR, Tom Petty, and American Dad have in common are that they are all things that me and Rekart of in the minority of people at NHC who like them. thanks for playing, everybody.

    It's a solid D, but a D is a D.

Suprisingly bad. The show would be a solid B if it was just Klaus, Stan, and Steve but it wasn't.

I was a bit dissapointed. The show didnt wow me, but I didnt think "this is so horrible that I'll never watch it again." Even Family guy took a few episodes to grow on me. When I first watched the very first Family Guy, I thought: "Talking baby, talking dog? Idiot dad... this is dumb." but the show grew on me and I absolutely love Family Guy now. So I'll give American Dad an opportunity to latch onto my brain.
I've been accused of vulgarity. I say that's bullshit!

i hate everyone who gives this a 3/5 because "it had a few good jokes". that isn't worth three when immediantly after your brief chuckle you realize that you hate the characters and you want to kill yourself

    It wasn't bad.
I was uber loaded so it is hard to gauge.
    I didn't like the alien.
    I need a second viewing.

Yeah, I got to say, it was much better than I thought. I laughed out loud about 4 or 5 times. Not a classic, but was better than the OFF ep that preceded it. It started off slowly and got funnier as it went along. It's worth a watch when it premieres.

    Fucking terrible.

Adding to what I previously said, I could have easily pictured this episode's plot being used in Family Guy. Peter could try to get Chris hooked up with girls. Brian could be writing Meg's paper. If they used the cutaways gags more liberally, this could have been a Family Guy episode. But more importantly, it could have been funny.
    Wicked.

Just think of it as an appetizer, and the return of Family Guy is the main course...

    Good call.

Well, it seems to be a love or hate show. 4/5 and 1/5 are the two leaders here. I think this means it has potential, really. A lot of you saying it sucks probably weren't giving it much of a chance or are those who aren't big fans of Family Guy, either. Also, some of you said you stopped watching after the first scene (before the commercial break,) and if you did that, you were bound to find it unfunny. I didn't like the part before the first break either, it was basically the original pilot, which simply wasn't funny. But after that, it got much better.

Next, for those saying they love political satire, this wasn't terribly politically satiric. I thought it would be, but other than the "Alert Level" joke and Bush on the phone with God, it wasn't that political. At least, I didn't take it that way.

Ahh, I feel bad for the show. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't, it was so hard. Many of the gags fell flat, and many characters had similar traits to those of Family Guy. Example: Roger seemed just like Brian- Out of place, smart, and well-read. Also, Franchine seems pretty pointless, and at times I completly forgot about her, can't see an episode revolving around her. The political humor was more of a Late Night T.V, than it was of "The Daily Show" and the force behind the show was supposed was to be less of pointed political humor.

    1.5/5.

while that is a pretty good point, look at how badly 2/5 outweighs 5/5...it's still 39-24 (votes south of 3/5-votes north of 3/5) which is pretty overwhelming, it seems like it's a pretty clear cut decision on the board about the quality of the show, and it's not good.

sorry, just too many stats and poll analysis projects from class of late.

This just sounds like another "It's not OFF or Family Guy so let's trash it thread" I agree with Abe I thought several of the jokes were laugh out loud funny and although some did fail, when was the last time a pilot of a show with a proven creator ever had every single joke succeed, I think it was already an improvement from what they showed on the Family Guy Freakin Sweet collection

    4/5

All the characters are terrible. Stan is too weak for a main character, the son is possibly the most annoying character on a show I've ever seen, and all the other characters our stereotypical family or Family Guy characters. Terrible.

Hardly even worth watching... wow, Seth doesn't have a lot of originality. He molded Family Guy after the Simpsons and now he's molded American Dad after Family Guy. He's a bit obsessed with the formula there. I saw the show, and it wasn't that funny, and the satire was dumbed down.
There was absolutely nothing in it which makes me want to watch it again.
Give FOX about a month or two to cancel it, trust me.

    i'm guessing seven episodes.

4/5 for me. I liked it. The writers do need to work on the scripts, there were too many plots going at once, they weren't developed enough... but honestly, it's the pilot. And it's an early release of the pilot. I'm having high hopes for the rest of the season.

  29. #89

It was...dull. And love it or hate it, that's the one thing you can never say about Family Guy. It seemed like something someone would write while forced at gunpoint to write an FG ripoff. It just lies there.

I'l probably give it another chance anyway, but that was an awful start.

Failed in all accounts to try to entertain me. Watched the first 10 minutes then changed the channel. Has to rank as one of the worst debute for an animated series.
