Smart & Smarter... Fresh or Rotten?

A mixed bag IMO.

Fresh: The idea of Maggie and Lisa rivalry, Phonic Frog, and Simon Cowell's character.

Rotten: Lisa's identity changes, jerkass clown Homer.

It's also not very funny. I liked Homer and the phonic frog, the stuff with Wiggum and the cops... that's about it. Mainly hindered by a contrived Lisa characterization, though I didn't see a problem with Homer. Strong Sad, would you care to elaborate?

Anyways, I just didn't find many of his lines to be funny. He goes a little crazy on Bart at the beginning if memory serves (Haven't seen this one all the way since February.) and I thought being the shit out of Simon at the end was odd.

Yeah, he forces Bart onto the toilet after his prank falls through. I didn't like that scene very much, not because of the way Homer acted though, mainly because of the hokey, drawn-out, over-the-top Britcom-esque slapstick. Come to think of it, Homer acted pretty haughty throughout, but the main problem wasn't with the characterization, it was that most of his lines felt flat and uninspired.

I think the joke was that Homer was living out what most people would like to see done to Cowell in real life. It was also justifiable given the context as Homer was just sticking up for Maggie.

Makes sense. I was smartassing, forgot to put an emoticon. This and Diatribe are two S15 episodes I've not seen since their original airdates. As for the end with Homer, I didn't find the joke funny, even if he did have a reason. (Based alot of my points on a vague memory, having to look at my old reviews btw.)

I didn't find it funny either. I barely found anything in the episode funny, except for the stuff I listed before obviously, as well as Homer suddenly treating the family to fast food both times... maybe a few other lines. Like I said before though, the humor was really flat, lame and/or uninspired throughout. Not to mention the plot was heavily contrived to begin with. Lisa being jealous of a baby? Negro, please. The resolution made very little sense as well.

Well didn't see this the first time, although it appears I voted on it so...
I personally found some of it pretty funny, the humour was just enough to bring it up to a B-. Maybe a tad generous but even if it was a C+ I'd say that was fresh.

Fresh - for it was a lot funnier than the majority of the admittedly-bland Season 15. Characterisation aside, the plot was interesting enough to keep it going, and there were genuine laughs there, the episode overall didn't bore me or make me think the show was starting to run out of steam.

The idea is not "fresh" or "origninal", but its a good psychological plot (although when I first heard Maggie was going to be smarter than Lisa, I was thinking about season 11). The problem with this episode is: it didn't make me laugh. The jokes were either random or lame (the only one that did make me laugh was Homer punching Simon, because I hate American Idol). It also didn't hit the emotional barrier, and created a completely (pointless, IMO) third act. The jokes with Wiggum, Eddie, and Lou weren't funny, and they didn't end on any emotion. (They could've backed up the punch to around the beginning of the third act, so OFF could tell Lisa the "good news") I may be grading a little low, but this episode is a C+,in my opinion.

The story idea is fresh and it could have been an awesome and different episode but the development is awful. I can´t see why Lisa is so jelaous of Maggie. And there was no necesity to end changing again to status quo. I mean, Lisa should have learned to live with a sister with a higher I.Q. for herself, there was no necesity of having her entire family in great danger and there was no necesity of showing that Lisa was cheating to solve the conflict between the sisters. So I´ll vote rotten because I can´t stand when they have a good idea and they basically destroy it.

Pretty good animation and a couple of good visual gags, though.

At least there was a story with some characterizations, unlike I Dohbot or Fat and the Furriest.

I must add that there were some nice, beautiful things specially with Lisa at the museum. Pretty good work in the visuals, it could have been very emotional if the story had made some sense.
