    R&R The Great Money Caper

Just watched for the first time ever!

    wasnt pleased.

First act is very poor. Marge is way out of character and Homer is a right idiot towards Bart 2/5

Second act: A anouther meh act but probably the best overall. Some funny moments and a nice plot. 3/5

Third act: The idea of the whole thing being an act is stupid. Very unrealistic.
    2/5

Overall: a weak episode and a fairly poor act by Homer and Bart. Marge was out of character. Overall a whacky silly boring episode. Though there were a few good jokes and some of the 2nd act was not bad.

    2.5/5 (rounded down to a 2) C/C-

also 3 out of 5, but it's almost 3.5/5 for me. The plot is pretty good, but the writers just didn't do anything really interesting with it, especially not with that ending. (B)

    Terrible.
Hearing a brief synopsis of the plotline, it actually sounds good: To pay for the cost of car repairs, Homer and Bart resort to a number of cons, until they fall afoul of the law. In reality though, this episode is easily one of the worst.
Once again, a dire and predictable first act that has little connection to the main plot - here, the family visits a magician's show, where some rather silly tricks are performed on Marge, culminating in her attack by some monkeys. This leads to Bart's interest in magic, by purchasing a magic kit. Later on, out of the blue, a sturgeon lands on the bonnet of the Simpson mobile, seemingly from a satellite high above. I'm all for the odd random wacky event, but when they happen in every episode like they seem to be doing here, this formula simply becomes tired and predictable. From this, Homer and Bart try out cons by playing on the townspeople's emotions in order to balance out the universe and pay for the car, seeing as Bart's magic act has limited appeal. Ultimately, this leads to their arrest, and this is where the plot becomes a jumbled mess. Evading escape and placing the blame on Willie, a court case takes place, leading to a bloody shoot-out. The Simpsons admit to everything in court, and in a horribly farcial finale, everybody goes surfing. An already mediocre episode is turned into complete chaos by throwing in a nonsensical ending. It wasn't funny. It was stupid. I think Lisa Simpson summed up the episode perfectly: "I know it seems farfetched, even insulting to your intelligence." Understatement of the century, perhaps?

I saw this for the first time in a long while tonight, and it was quite simply as UGH as before.

    Act 1

I just didn't get Homer's gut falling onto the table under a minute after we'd left the couch gag, and Marge drunk just did not amuse me at all. The giant sturgeon falling from NASA on the car? Way too random and unfunny. The Squidport scene was OK, and the following house scenes were so-so. I was dearly glad for the Pizza Hut advert to chime in so I could go to quickly ram most of that act out of my mind. D-

    Act 2

This part started off on bumpy ground and hit a pothole the instant in the scene they got home. It continued going downhill from that moment on, improving slightly with the Flanders and Grandpa scenes, and the Retirement Castle scenes were pretty much flat ground, and again I was glad for the Pizza Hut advert to be the toppings on the advert break. C

    Act 3

It was bad at the start, with Homer and Bart trying to make out that their grift was a one-off, it was bad in the middle with the conversations at home, and the end with the court was just a total jigsaw to understand - a jigsaw that had been thrown out of a house window. And just then, when it seemed all was coming to an understandable and intelligent close, the "Surf's up" end brought this act zooming down to an F.

Overall grade = Er, I'm not sure.

Almost passable for the most part, but the ending was horrible, as were the Russian fish and a some other things (mostly in the third act).

The bit with the Stergeon and the Russians arguing, with subtitles reminding me of THOH 11, was funny to me...but that was pretty much it. The third act was rubbish, with just about EVERYONE acting out of character at the end, even poor Lisa, who I liked because she NEVER acted OOC before.

1/5, only gaining a point for the Stergeon and the Russians arguing.
    I'm just like Lisa!

Is there any wonder I like her so much?

watched this last night and it was actually funnier than i remembered. the plot is still extremely amateurish and awkward as well as uninteresting and bland, but it has some clever moments and good lines here and there. the ending was a perhaps passable, if bland, crazy idea (the whole town grifts homer and bart) executed in such a haphazard, awkward way that it just made it seem like lazy "intelligence-insulting" nonsense. characterisations are quite bad as usual for the time, especially marge and usually homer. funnier than i thought, but still C

This is a bad, bad episode. A bottom ten one for sure. The entire episode ranges from ok, to poor, until the last scene, not just Otto runnig in and screaming. F

Whoa, I voted 4/5, and am surprised to see how many people hated it. I thought this was pretty good actually. Huh.
