I havent seen it in a while but I've always wondered. . . when they were talking about ms botz on tv, was that a picture of rod and todd that they showed?

I don't think so, but I may check.

Anyhow, I'd say a 4/5. Not the best episode of Season 1 (that honor goes to Bart the General) but still an entertaining episode nonetheless. Each member of OFF were well-characterized and received an ample amount of screen time. The subplot with Ms. Botz was also somewhat entertaining... which makes me wonder, has she been seen since?

I think its a good episode from season 1.
The story is pretty funny and has some good gags.

An old episode but a memorable one but falls because of bad animation and uninteresting characters but a good episode nonetheless.3/5

One of the worst of season 1, after Homer's Night Out and Homer's Odyssey. It just was not very funny, sure there were some moments such as The Happy Little Elves. But all those moments were just amusing and never laugh out loud worthy. Ms. Botz was not an interesting character either, very forgettable. I kinda like it's bad animation though, it gives it a nice "primitive" feel.

I understand that you have to cut it some slack for being the first episode producad, but a bland episode is a bland episode. C-

I don't know where's the right place to rate all the episodes of the season in one message, so if there's a right place to do it, please re-direct me. Until that I think i'll just pick up on the last episodes of their seasons. Well, there it is - the first season of the Simpsons.

4/5. I liked the episode for the most part (I thought it was pretty funny for a Season 1 episode) though I hate that the Babysitter Bandit got away. I was hoping she'd be brought back in a later episode, but... nope. And now that I think about it, Season 1's last two episodes were both villain-themed episodes, except the villain from the previous episode would return nine more times.

I watched this episode today for the first time in years. When I first saw this episode, I was quite young and didn't pay attention to some of the finer detail, so it was interesting to view this episode from a more analytical perspective

I found the storyline quite solid and easy to follow -it was quite straightforward and conventional in contrast to the storylines that have take centre stage in episodes over the past few years The script flowed nicely -although it was a little slow-paced at times -and one of the things I enjoyed about this episode (and which indeed was characteristic of the earlier series of the Simpsons) was that the Simpsons were portrayed as a realistic and down-to-earth family with whom you could relate in some ways. Homer, for example, was portrayed as a well-meaning but flawed husband and father in contrast to the overexaggerated buffoon he became after a few seasons. The same also applies to some of the supporting characters -Moe also came across as being the rather stereotypical average bartender rather than having the more complex personality that he developed in later episodes. I actually think that the character development in the first season was much better than in some of the subsequent ones

The animation was of a lower standard than it should have been perhaps but, for me, it did not detract from the episode. I don't know -maybe for me, the basic animation style seemed to fit in quite well with a show that was still relatively new and underdeveloped. The dialogue also seemed a little forced in this episode but this, again, can be excused as being a characteristic of a relatively new show

Dan Castellaneta's original voice for Homer during the first season of the show was something I'd forgotten. I must concede that I quite liked it -it sounded somewhat like a Richard Nixon impersonation.

    4.9/5 from me -a classic

I'm not really a huge fan of this one, the only part that really elicited a laugh out of me was Homer letting the babysitter go, other than that it was plagued by horrible animation, patches with next to no humor, and forced emotion that suddenly went away. One of the worst of Season 1, really needed a rewrite once they realized it wouldn't be the pilot anymore because it seems like they're trying to introduce the characters. Not horrible by any means, but it's just as far from good. 7/15

I never really liked Season 1, but this has to be my favorite episode in the season. I don't know what is so intriguing about it, it's just good.

I really enjoy the premise in this one, especially for a season one episode. I'd probably it a low 4/5.

It's not recognized a lot, and that's pretty obvious why: The episode was not that good. It was weak all around.

This episode is seriously something I might have seen on an episode of Rugrats or something back in the day. One of the worst of season one even though the Night of the Hunter stuff is badass.

Having seen this again I'd really like to change my vote to 3/5. I still agree with what I say but I don't think the premise outweighs the more lackluster areas of the episode.

This episode was a bit of a stinker and overall just not that interesting, I can't really remember any jokes for memory and actually the episode should have been rewritten or at least polished up a little bit more, Ms. Botz was a pretty dull and unmemorable character. I can forgive the unpleasant animation at times but I can't forgive the crummy story though; that being said I don't think its as bad as Homer's Night Out which is my least favourite of the season.
Oh my great good God! Gentlemen, your attention please. I am detecting a gigiantic amphibious life-form, it's 80 meters long and it's heading this way. Oh good glayven it's on my shoe. It's a small frog, just get off, just get off there, just get out of it, get out of it. Stupid machine, oh wait a minute, this isn't the Monsterometer, it's the Frog-Exaggerator Mm-hai.

The animation is still very dull. But it was the first episode ever produced. Not the 13th produced. They thought it would be a poor way to start the series. So it ended up being number thirteen. Yes, there are some mouth twists, yes, they almost look like the Tracey Ullman shorts. But this episodes writing and plot is very good. And with that I give it a 4/5. Not flawless but it is good. This is definatley not the worst of the season. The first season has bad episodes such as "Homer's Night Out" and "Homer's Odyssey" or even "Call of the Simpsons" for me.

Ms. Botz was given a cameo in the episode, Hurricane Neddy.

Anyway, my rating for this episode is 5/5, besides the story, Nostalgia, is what makes this episode great for me.

An utter fantastic finale for a great season. Although some do say that the animation fix-ups weren't great and that it had trouble in writing, I disagree. This episode is somewhat better than the original draft (I have a fancy for the crude animation of the early seasons), and writing was a little so-so, but not terrible as some said. Homer was a big ol' cornball when he said that Marge worshiped the ground he walks on, but after that, the writing is decent.

As for the character designs, they improved since the earlier episodes, as Ms. Botz is a little more detailed than the others. Oh, and for the sake of it, here it is:

"Rubber Baby Bugger Bumper Babysitting Service?"

    Happy? Good.

Back to the review, the designs, as I said, were decent. Marge looked great, Homer was decent, Bart was so-so, Lisa was decent and Maggie was great. If you wonder why I gave Bart "so-so," that is because of this:

The humor was a little off, but that was the norm for season one, which was originally built up for being an all-family program.

The characterizations were spot on: Marge as the mother and vaguely dissatisfied happy homemaker, Homer as the oafish father, Bart as the suspecting brat, Lisa as the calm hostage, and Maggie as the lifesaver.

Also, a great guest appearance by the lovely Penny Marshall. Never can get better than her.

Otherwise, this is overall a great episode. Spot on, I say...forget your criticizers, season one. Get yourself something nice..like that nice ham on rye sandwich at that diner on third street.

    Overall Rating: 5/5.

I still wish they hadn't made those cleaned up segments, now it feels like two styles mixed.
(the early and the late S1-style)
Even despite the flaws from the original material, the unchanged version would have so much more meaning as a bridge between the shorts and the series.

And never forget, it IS the first episode produced, it was destined to be the pilot, sadly it ain't treated that way.

  26. #56

A mostly dull episode and only a notch above Homer's Night Out which is my least favorite of the first season. I rather like Marge's line "The way I see it, if you raise three children who can knock out and hog-tie a perfect stranger, you must be doing something right." The animation is clunky and ugly but the amusing prank calls to Moe and Penny Marshall's great performance make up for it somewhat.

    2/5

    Some Enchanted Evening

This was the first episode made and I can see why. The animation is really bad compared to the latter half of season 1 and even worse than the first episode. The plot was good and it turned out to be a good episode but I’m glad they didn’t air it as the first episode. The baby sitter (Can’t even remember her name) was a pretty, bland emotionless character but that didn’t really matter. The ending was bad it just sort of happened. It was a good season 1, ok Simpsons episode but felt unmemorable.

Score for Some Enchanted Evening: B-, 3.5/5, 7/10, Good

    Well on to season 2

This one made me think Ms. Botz would be a returning villain in the show, as she was also featured as a level-boss in Bart vs The Space Mutants. But outside a cameo in It's a Mad Mad Mad Marge, she never returned. Good to know she's locked away in some kind of Arkham Asylum, so what was she? Crazy? Some sort of sixties Bat-villain with babysitting as a main theme? She ain't half as crazy as some characters who appeared later in the show. But her design wes so Tracey Ullman-Simpsons. Probably the biggest reason why she wasn't featured later on.
So what does this episode have to offer for the rest? A LOT of Happy Little Elves, a shaven Homer (albeit only for a sec), lipstick on the door and disturbing interiors of the power plant.
