It was pretty good. A little low by 4's standards but it was all great stuff.
I just wish this was the last time Marge would be sent to jail, so maybe It's a Mad Mad blah blah Marge wouldn't have been made.
God I hate that episode so much.
5: Lock me up! I love it!
4: Pretty nice place, but it's hard to get cigarettes.
3: An ok prison, but I'll break out.
2: An outrage! Free Mandela!
1: I'd rather drop soap in the shower than watch this!

4/5, it gets boring at times, but it is still a great episode
4/5. A great episode.
Underrated episode.. Some funny jokes, and maybe the best appearance of Lionel Hutz. 16/20.

Saw this recently and was surprised at just how funny it was. Definitely has to be considered an underrated episode. I don't think it's the perfect episode and I wasn't really as interested in Marge being jailed as I could have been, as well as the reaction of the town. However, after having gone through the season I'd have to say every episode from 4 is a really worthwhile episode.
not season 4 quality, but then again, lionel hutz steals the show, when calling david crosby, struggling to take off his tie, "a world without lawyers".
the main plot was just OK
3/5 + lionel hutz= 4/5
“On my deathbed, my final wish is to have my ex-wives rush to my side so I can use my dying breath to tell them both to go to hell one last time.”
Always liked this episode - starts off brilliantly with the flu gags - love the one where otto is sunbathing. Hutz is at his finest during the courtroom scenes, and the households demise while marge is away is done very well too. However the prison scenes dont really work for me, and they lead to a rather odd rushed ending.
Plenty of good gags, without being the greatest of stories 8/10
We live in a society of rules. Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing! Did you?! Except at that guy who made sound effects. Brrruuummm!, zhoo-zhoo!, rrraaassspppp!, honk!, honk!, pkeeerrrrgghhh!, ahoo-hoo, he-he, hoo-hoo. Where was I? Oh yeah... Stay out of my booze!

family guy did it better
Not a good episode. It's one of the few classics that make me cringe at times.
Its plot suffers from bad pacing, as Charmy said they should have invested more time than just half an act for developing the consequences of Marge being in jail. Otherwise it feels wacky. Scully wacky. I didn't like the relationship with her roommate either, mostly because it wasn't developed nor explained at all.
The humor in this episode is not that solid either. The first act is a "hit and miss" fest (Nick Riviera's miraculous juicer, Itchy & Scratchy, Otto; along with killer bees, the flu clouds crossing the street or the intro of I Can't Believe They Invented It!). The second act with Lionel Hutz is easily the funniest, but it still has some scenes I just dislike, with Apu and Sanjay celebrating Marge's arrest being specially cringeworthy for me. And the third act had... well, that. It was just plain stupid, and had pretty much nothing worth of mention, except for that "Ten minutes later" joke.
Mix this with an unconvincing, forced and almost self-parodic premise (Marge going to jail for stealing a bottle of whisky? What), and you have a clunker in season 4. I don't hate it because it somehow remains funny, but I don't remember an episode in that season being as flawed and repeatedly awkward as this is. 6.5/10

This episode was a very forgettable episode.
I agree, it doesn't seem like a season four one. More like an episode that was made from one of the newer seasons. It did have some humor here and there. Like Homer being in a wedding outfit or the devil outfit from Halloween from running out of clean clothes LOL. Over all I give it a 3/5.

Good episode, but the season has much better to offer. 4/5
This was weak by classic standards. The plot felt very slow - Marge was in prison for 5 minutes, with everything else leading up to it. Not that that was necessarily the problem, but the pacing did drag a lot, the court room scenes were very long, as was the build up to Marge "stealing" the bourbon.
And there were a couple of really "what the fuck" moments. People seeing germs jump out at them? Germs travelling on the street? The Jimmy Carter thing and the destruction of the city just because Marge isn't there? They all felt very weird and the Jimmy Carter statue ending was almost cringeworthy. But as per usual, the characterisations were good and there were some funny moments from Lionel Hutz ("I'm not wearing a tie at all" may just be his finest hour), but David Crosby's appearance felt like a shoe horned in guest appearance and personally I didn't find it funny. So yes, this didn't do it for me. Amongst the worst of season 4 with The Front and Marge Gets a Job.

OJ! MORPHINE! LOBO!
I love ponies
i have no interest in anything but my interests
always found this really underated, probably one of the highlights from season 4 to me. so many notable moments. the parody of tv shopping channels, the courtroom scene, the jimmy carter statue. I agree the plot probably moves a bit too slowly, upon rewatch I actually forgot what episode I was watching, until marge got to the kwik-e-mart. still, it was very funny, and featured a very solid sub-plot which makes a good episode a great episode. 5/5

I don't think that this episode is that spectacular. Probably the worst of Season 4 for me, but it does have one of Hutz's best moments, so it's not awful. 3/5.
I've been giving this episode a miss for a while, because I thought I was over-familar with it.I watched it again recently and was truly amazed.Much, much funnier than I remembered.Once again a minor event triggers a Town riot and there is loads of detail about Lionel Hutz's little quirks-he has a drinking problem,he is illiterate,he lacks self-confidence(when the Prosecutor makes his opening statement against Marge, which is brilliant in itself ,Hutz tells her "Oh,he's going to win")and he,apparently, forgets to wear trousers sometimes when he goes to Court. For a "Law-talking type guy",he sure doesn't know much about the Law.Brilliant stuff.

This is a perfect example of a 4/5, 8/10 episode I think. Weak by classic standards but still quite good in reality, god I miss Lionel Hutz.
I thought this episode was hilarious IMO. 5/5
A very good episode but far from the best.

it was funny, but for a season 4 episode the plot was bad, seriously, the current writing team is probably using this episode as an example that plots that make no sense can be funny, marge in chains is encouraging plots where the characters over react for no reason at all. days of wine and d'ohses had a more realistic plot, yes i really said that!
btw im not saying i dont like the episode, im just saying that i recently watched and i remembered it to be better
Are you saying "Boo" or "Boo-urns"?
5, because Lionel Hutz was at his best.
