Last Simpsons Episode You Watched

"Homer vs. the 18th Amendment". Now this is more like it. One of the rare season 8 episodes with an excellent premise that makes me think "I can't believe they didn't do this earlier". Obvious, yet rich with creative possibilities. I was surprised it had a huge laugh out loud moment for me when the whole family yelled, "GO TO YOUR ROOM!" at Lisa after she got preachy about breaking the law.

Watching it now, I think the episode feels surprisingly obscene for something made in 1997. Blatant references to cocaine and heroin as jokes, plus a plot in which the character who breaks the law is praised the whole time for doing so, and celebrated as a hero for it at the end. Okay, the law he broke was silly, but still! This episode was morally bankrupt! And I loved every minute of it anyway.

And the "to alcohol!" line is one of the last rightfully iconic Simpsons lines, worthy of being on posters and T-shirts everywhere.

Also loved the exploding beer, Homer's insistence on 42 tubs, the sneaky salute by the pet shop drinkers, Apu's drunken slurring, the catapult, Hank Azaria's Comic Book Guy "Tubby" ad-lib, and "I'm not gonna lie to ya, Marge...". Dave Thomas was gold as Rex Banner. I always got a kick out of him grabbing people by the shirt trying to intimidate them.

A Star Is Born-Again - B (For some reason, I really enjoyed this episode)
Mr. Spritz Goes To Washington - B (Way better than I remember it being. Really enjoyed this one too!)
C.E.D'Oh! - B (There are a lot of funny jokes, and some of the dialogue is especially funny and good...otherwise I woulda rated 'C')

Disc Three is so far the strongest of season fourteen. Been so long since I've watched these episodes, even the bad episodes have been fun to watch. When I say I enjoyed an episode, all were fun, but those episodes I really was fully interested in watching.

Dead Putting Society - 7/10 Not as good as I thought it was. I can cope with Homer being mean to Ned in short bursts, but when it's the whole episode, it does get tiring. It was saved somewhat, by decent characterisation of other characters and some amusing moments.

Bart vs. Thanksgiving - 7.75/10 Took a while to get going, but eventually got there. Had a great ending, but the middle bit dragged a little. Also, thanks to this episode, Get Dancin' is stuck in my head. Which is a good thing.

Treehouse of Horror 2: 9/10

Lisa's Pony: 10/10 - Another episode packed with great moments, like Lisa taking one bite from the $88 ice cream, Homer's fake words in bed to Marge, Lisa discovering the horse in her bed, "NEED MONEY", Bart in the third act, and this:

Saurdays of Thunder: 10/10 - I didn't really think much of this one before I got the Season 3 DVD, but it's a real gem. They really knew how to do "Homer trying to be a good parent" episodes back then. Amazingly, the cheesy joke ending worked as intended yet was heartwarming too, considering the journey Homer and Bart went through in the episode.

lisa's substitute- A+

i can kinda see why some people complain about 'lack of humor', because i did not laugh a whole lot, but who gives a crap. the plot, and the emotion in the last half, was really well-done. i primarily watch simpsons for humor of course, but in this instance, i did not care because of how well done the emotion in it was. easily one of the best episodes of the series
