$pringfield: Hilarious. Another of my favorites. One of my favorite portrayals of Monty Burns (like in my avatar) as well as some good material from Homer (i.e. the Boogieman). A+

Lisa's First Word A+
Bart the General: While it's easily the funniest episode of season one, it's not the best ("Moaning Lisa" and "Life on the Fast Lane" outdo it in my book). Still, it remains a timeless classic for me. Bart's characterization makes him sympathetic and more than just the, shall we say, stereotypical brat, that was rampant in season 1. Nelson's introduction is great, as are the two fantasy sequences. The story, while easy to relate to, ends up being blown up into a Kids Vs. Muntz war (a nice original twist), and that makes this one all the more memorable. The ending is also one of the best, simply because it sort of comes out of left-field (this episode's really not that outrageous, even by 1990 standards). Hilarious through and through and a top 50 classic. A+

Homer's Triple Bypass B+
Brake My Wife, Please: This episode has grown on me with subsequent viewings. The first act is really my only problem, mostly because it's just not all that funny (Homer singing, the pretty cliched and unfunny "satire" of all the appliances you can use for your car--which was too exaggerated anyway). Still, it does have some foreshadowing of Marge's later resentment of Homer, so at least it was a plot-point early on. Other than that complaint, though, this episode is funny and even charming at times. It also has the brilliant musical number, I Love to Walk (one of the best in years, in my opinion), and the pretty sweet ending (I thought the song was great, and it's one of the few instances where I actually enjoyed Homer's singing). The storyline itself is also very unique, in that it is a Marge/Homer story that really hadn't been told prior to that (and, in my opinion, the concept worked very well). All in all, a pretty nice showing that gets better over time. A-/B+
