Trilogy of Error - 5/10 not as good as I remembered.
Trilogy of Error - 5/10 not as good as I remembered.
Jimbo Jones: [about Homer] I hear that guy's ass has it's own congressman!
Bart Simpson: I wash myself with a rag on a stick.
Homer Simpson: [takes cap out of dryer and puts it on his head] Mmmmm... I CAN feel three types of softness.
Lisa Simpson: [from upstairs] Dad, what are you doing down there?
Homer Simpson: Washing my fat guy's hat honey!
The Great Simpsina - 4/5
Pokey Mom: For some reason, I was thinking about the subplot regarding Homer's being a "chiropracter" with his messed up trashcan. This episode was actually better than I remembered, but still about average because of Marge's subplot. 3/5 (C)
Trilogy of Error: This is one of those episodes I overlooked when it was first on, but now I think it's definitely the best of season 12. 4/5 (B+)

Marge vs the Monorail. (A-)
After watching nothing but new episodes since September, I sat down and picked a random season 4 episode and this episode had so much "fun" compared to a modern episode.
Also, I was going to watch a Season 6 episode...and then I opened up the case to find Disc 1 missing. AHHHH!!!!
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.
I know that feel bro. My Season 7 discs are all scratched and entire Season 4 is missing. Feels bad man

Team Homer - 5/5
Typically hilarious Mirkin episode. And I think Scully gets vastly undervalued as a writer due to how unpopular his stint as showrunner is. It's interesting to watch "Marge Be Not Proud" and "Team Homer" back-to-back. They were consecutive episodes and both were scripted by Scully, but with Mirkin as showrunner for "Team Homer" and O&W as showrunners for "Marge Be Not Proud." The O&W episode is much more grounded in reality (one of the most realistic episodes of the entire series, I think) and filled with emotion. Most of the humor is relatively low key. Mirkin's episode, on the other hand, is filled with wild gags. Even visually the two episodes are strikingly different, with "Marge Be Not Proud" being filled with somewhat moody lighting and stately compositions, while "Team Homer" is more visually restless and inventive.
I know the material for "Marge Be Not Proud" is more innately emotional and realistic, but there's no doubt that it would've been far more fanciful if Mirkin had helmed it. The "Team Homer" story is pretty basic and restrained conceptually (Homer starts a bowling team, Springfield Elementary gets uniforms), yet it's been injected with Mirkin's peculiar brand of lunacy. I think both episodes are pretty much perfect the way they are, but they do offer a pretty revealing glimpse into the degree to which these episodes are shaped by the showrunners.

Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie : 7/10
Lisa the Tree Hugger - 7.9/10
Ugh, season 6. I was so annoyed with the Homer head packaging. My set is really falling apart now.

A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again: 2.5/5 - D+ maybe? Not sure how I would grade it because I didn't know what the hell I was watching. The first half of the episode (before the fake pandemic) was definitely better, but what were they trying to accomplish with that ending?
I'm probably being generous with these ratings, but my expectations are generally lower for the double digit/post-classic seasons.
