    Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming

Tour guide: At this point in time, I would like to direct your attention
to the particular air vehicle next to which I am currently
standing. The Harrier Jet is one of our more dollar-
    intensive ordnance delivery vectors.
Marge: Five tires!? Am I seeing things?
Guide: And, although it looks complicated it is so well-designed,
even a child could fly it.
    Lisa: Can I fly it?
Guide: Of course you can not.

    Lisa the Skeptic (A-)
One of the best Lisa-centric episodes.

    Favorite lines:
Smithers: "Mr. Burns, I, uh, hope you know that kiss back there was merely a sign of respect."
    Burns: "Right, right."

Moe: "20% Off Everything store? And that's 20% off everything, right?"
    Contractor: "Yes."
    Moe: "Even rat spray?"
    Contractor: "You bet."

    Bart Carny (A-)
Incredibly clever. Probably the best ending of any episode. I miss Jim Varney.

    Favorite lines:
Bart (on Hitler's car): "It's Fuhreriffic!"

Marge: "Homer, you can't ride this rollercoaster. You have a heart condition."
    Homer: "Oh, please."
    [gets on rollercoaster]
    "Weeeeeee! Ow, my heart!"

Bart (after Cooder pulls a lit cigarette out of his ass): "Wow! Can you do that again?"
    Cooder: "Not for a while."

    The PTA Disbands!

Reasonably clever story told in a sketch show format: the plot literally jumps from one place to another with the teachers striking, Lisa becoming paranoid, Bart wreaking havoc on town, hiring of substitute teachers and ultimately in a sort of a cop-out with the school becoming a prison. This episode is plagued by questionable and spotty characterisations of Bart and Lisa with Lisa being too much of a "grade-grinder" and Bart displaying moments of just plain weird behaviour (smiling while flying a kite, getting into crawlspace). But Marge is characterised well as the soft-spoken subsitute teacher. For a classic era episode, humour is surprisingly uneven. While some are just plain hilarious ("Lisa, in this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics", "that's a paddlin, the scenes with the substitute teachers, purple monkeydishwasher), others just fall flat (crawlspace, the foreman with Bart's voice, Lisa's insane moments, the riot at the bank). My least favorite episode of season 6 though I don't rate it as low as,say, Channel Surfer. C+

    Trash of the Titans (A)
One of the best eps with multiple guest stars. Both Steve Martin and U2 are amazing.

    Favorite lines:
Ray: "I would've been here sooner but SOMEBODY cut my brakes."
Homer: "Well, then you should've been here sooner."
    [arguing continues]
Homer: "Sorry, Pops. Maybe you should turn up your hearing aid!"
Ray: "Pops?! I'm two years older than you!"
Homer: "Do we really want Old Man Patterson with his finger on the button?"
Ray: "What button? What the hell are you talking about?!"

Homer: "I never apologize, Lisa. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am."

The Edge: "Oh, great. Here he goes. Let's duck out and head to Moe's."
    Adam Clayton: "Can I come?"
    The Edge: "No."
    Adam Clayton: "Wankers."
[The Edge and Larry Mullen turn around and scowl. Adam Clayton whistles nonchalantly.]

Adam Clayton: "Look, Bono. I got a spoon in Springfield to add to my spoon collection. I'd go crazy without my spoons."
    Bono: "Oh, really."
[throws spoon across plane, hitting Mr. Burns]
    Adam Clayton: "Noooooo!!!!!!!!"
    Burns: "Wankers."

    Homer Vs. Patty and Selma

Nice down-to-earth character-based story with good characterisations of Homer, Marge and Bart. The episode is consistently hilarious and has a great subplot of Bart learning ballet which concludes well with another "screw the audience" jokes that were prevalent in the Mirkin Era. Unfortunately, the main conflict often borderlines on being sappy and sitcommish and ultimately doesnt involve the viewer in the story as much it wants to. It attempts to show what Marge likes about Homer to Patty and Selma, but the way it does comes off a little dry. As I said, it is a good character-based based story with a great subplot and decent jokes but ultimately suffers from certain blandness. B/B+
