Sleeping with the Enemy 5/5
Wonderful episode, never get tired of it. Also, I noticed something I hadn't before: when Nelson releases the skunk on Sherri and Terri and the children start to wag their fingers in unison, the skunk does so too![]()

The President Wore Pearls
This is a pretty mediocre episode whose high reputation frankly baffles me. The plot is a decent parody of Evita, but the episode has three strikes against it. (1) The songs are all kinda half-assed. One ends really abruptly with Groundskeeper Willie falling in the pool, and one is just Lisa reciting her e-mail address. Yuk yuk yuk. The songs aren't as well put-together as the ones in the other musical episode Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(d'oh!)cious or "We Put the Spring in Springfield" and they're not even close to being as funny as "See My Vest" or the Planet of the Apes musical from A Fish Called Selma. The music's just pretty bland and awkward all around. (2) The ending is very unsatisfying. It ends on a downer, with Lisa's plot completely unresolved. Plus Homer's crushing of Lisa's dreams is pretty jerkassy. (3) Worst of all, the good joke:bad joke ratio is very low. I laughed once on this rewatch (when Bart throws a brick at a window and it bounces off). But there are so many jokes that fall flat here, including Homer acting completely loony (his plan for telling everyone Nelson is gay and his line "I wish I married a businessman. Then I'd have nice things."), the Willie falling in the pool joke and the ending which I already mentioned, the really dumb "As school president, I don't have to take the hearing test!" / "I'm so proud of you, Lisa!" / "What?" that you can see coming a mile away, and perhaps the worst offender, Ralph's Godawful line "Lisa is a sellout, Lisa is a sellout! Hey Lisa, what's a sellout?"
Could someone tell me why this episode is often called one of the best of the Jean era? I really don't get it. I'd probably give it a C.
Ooh, they have the Internet on computers now!
Blood feud :
Mr. Burns is probably the most fascinating secondary character ever created and any episode from the classic Era featuring him in am major role is poised for greatness (usual exceptions aside) . He is in great form in this episode, with just the right amount of cold-heartedness ("I just robbed a man of his livelyhood yet I feel srangely empty.Tell you what Smithers, have him beaten to a pulp.) and the right amount of cynicism (his reaction at being asked with whom he had slept with) combined with just the right number of old-timey jokes. This episode is first of the genre of "just a bunch of stuff that happens" which it itself acknowledges very cleverly by mocking the notion of tv characters learning a lesson at the end of the episode.
This episode is directed by the always great David Silverman and so the direction is very amibitious with some great camera angles and excellent lighting. Any scene of Burns' mansion is done perfectly, the physical "acting" of Burns' face as he reads Homer's letter is awesome and the scene where Burns' yells out "Judas!" at Smithers is one of the finest directions of a scene I have ever seen.
This episode also features great characterisations of OFF and Smithers. Not only possessing the extremly charming witty dialogue-based humour of season 2, it has lots of stand-out gags (Homer's rendition of a standard letter, "My name is Mr. Burns. I believe you have a letter for me", the nuclear warning sign at the beginning).
I give this episode a well-deserved A-
It's a bit like having sex with a jellyfish: once might an interesting experiment, twice would be perversion!after I told him my name, he beat seven shades out of me and left me in a dumpster with a bar of soap shoved in my mouth and a brush shoved in where the sun doesn't shine
