Much Apu About Nothing - 4/5
The Mansion Family
There was a time when I thought that the first two acts of this episode were okay, only thrown away by a stupid 3rd act. Now, I can say that it's poor all the way through. Homer's a jerk throughout, Marge is too "forward" and boring, Bart is just following his dad's crazy schemes and Lisa has too little air time. I'll admit, that with a plot like this it had a lot of potential to make me laugh and just be dysfunctional family fun, but nope. I also find the sub-plot to be very disturbing. I enjoy seeing "Evil Mr. Burns" not "Insane Old Man who is falling to pieces", and some of the jokes made me cringe (taking blood, clogging the machine). There was very few jokes I enjoyed in the first two acts, but there was not one single joke in the 3rd. Homosexual pirates, monkey knife-fights, half of the secondary characters dying, the whole "floating net" thing and Mr. Burns wanting to use Smithers skin to heal his monkey. This one isn't even worth torture. D-

Really funny until it gets to Brad Goodman, then the laughs slow down, but it remains interesting throughout.
The Day The Violence Died B-
This is a perfect example of the problems I have with the Oakley and Weinstein era. There are lots and lots of good jokes in here but the plot kills it, it is very very uninvolving and there are pacing problems. Good twist at the end though.
Scenes From A Class Struggle In Springfield A
An episode I'd largely forgotten about, this is great - real emotion throughout, lots of sharp writing and involving.
The Way We Weren't A-
Very good, one of the best of the Jean era, although I did find the wraparound slightly overwrought.

Another thing I hate; how some people give A+'s out like they were AOL trial CDs. The Telltale Head and Trilogy of Error were good, but are they really comparable to the best episodes ever?
Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment
Packed to the brim with witty one-liners, top-notch parodies, pretty decent meta-humour and a interesting ending. Not only does it give each family member decent air-time, but also showcases the character they're. Homer; he usually always puts TV before his friends and family but always makes the right decision in the end, Lisa; cares for, and is worried, about her family's well-being (in this case, their after-life), Marge; supporting her daughter, despite not exactly agreeing with her (it wasn't focused, but you see her out on the lawn with Lisa) and, lastly, Bart; naughty and often disobeying his parents. On top of been the best episode to introduce someone to the Simpsons, we get a pretty interesting moral dilemma for Homer, and some down-right hilarious jokes. Bart's use of the word "hell" throughout was a great joke, and it worked as a meta-reference to how a lot of places have banned "I'm Bart Simpson, Who the Hell are you?" T-shirts, too. Not to mention that I've always had a thing for Bart's sub-plot about watching pornography, and later inviting the other kids around to watch "Broadcast Nudes". Another moment I'm known for liking, is Homer's "talks" with his kids. This episode had a few of them (One with Lisa and one with Bart), and they were both pretty funny. Homer making the right choice at the end was also very nice, despite Bart begging him not to, if it was a Season 12 episode he would've probably drugged Lisa with chlorofoam and kept cable TV for himself. It's episodes like this that don't get much mention, but are some of the best made. A+

There are low A+'s, and high A+'s. Telltale and TOE are both low, in fact I think A-'s.Originally Posted by Butters
