"James Woods taking a job in the Kwik-E-Mart to train for some movie? WTF?"Originally posted by tim_duncan2000
Yeah, that trip to India thing was pretty out there, but I didn't mind them having James Woods as a Kwick-E-Mart clerk and I fail to see how his appearance was all that zany.
I like most of the stuff at the Monstromart.Originally posted by tim_duncan2000
Until that tidal wave thing, the stuff at Monstromart was pretty good (how was it that different that some of the stuff from this episode?
yeah, and that's unrealistic and contrived handling of characters for the sake of a zany musical number. which was my original complaint. that episode seemed very "thrown-together". like they had a bunch of leftover jokes about Apu and tried in vain to string them together into some kind of plot.Originally posted by tim_duncan2000
and maybe he did feel the same way as them but then later realized how much he missed working there.
then what exactly? the main plot is thin, and there is no attempt to make a meaningful conflict out of it, just derive jokes from it from a while before making one side capitulate. there is rarely much continuity between one scene and the next, it has lots of crazy extended sidegags (Burns & Smithers running the plant themselves, Lisa's Yellow Submarine hallucination). it's far from being a fully-formed satire on unions or anything, or a moving story. not that that's a bad thing necessarily - i love LETS, just about all the jokes in its joke parade are genius. but the structure of it is almost identical in style to the structure of Tis The Fifteenth Season.Originally posted by tim_duncan2000
No way "LETS" was just a joke parade. It was much more than that.

) and I watched it again. I still think its one of the better episodes in recent years. A few jokes fall flat, but I love Homer's grinch song and the "McGrew" Christmas Carol, since it reminds me of all those cartoon Christmas specials I watched as a kid every year
