This episode is brilliant and it's my favorite episode that goes into Homer and Marge's past (my second favorite is The Way We Weren't). There are just so many memorable things in this episode (Homer working at the miniature golf fun center, Homer working at the Gulp N' Blow to try and send as much money as he can to Marge). And I just love the way Homer decides to go marching into Mr. Burns' office to demand a job from him. The overall atmosphere in this episode is mind boggling! 5/5

Here's one of my favorite quotes from this episode:

Marge: Homer, do you ever think about the future?
Homer: You mean, like, will apes be our masters?
Marge: No. I mean how you plan to earn a living.

One of the favorite episodes for sure! It is excellent backstory that explains the conception of Bart, how Homer and Marge got married and how Homer got his job at the Springfield Nucular Power Plant. The only thing that bothers in this episode in shows that Homer/Marge share their first time in the castle at the golf course but in later years they say it was the wind mill. I guess they forgot after all that.

I'm a sucker for flashback episodes. The writers always did a good job of poking fun at different eras in time.
Very well done, with plenty of sweet moments and is a nice sister episode to "The Way We Was"
Apparently Selma is nicer than Patty, which I found noteworthy.

    Best Quotes:

Homer: Yeah, sure for you a baby's all fun and games. For me it's diaper changes and midnight feedings.
Lisa: Doesn't Mom do that stuff?
Homer: Yeah, but I have to hear about it.

Lisa: It's not our fault our generation has short attention spans, Dad, we watch an appalling amount of TV.
Homer: Don't you ever, EVER, talk that way about television.

Homer: I bet the guy she was singing that about was real happy.
Marge: Actually, she was singing about God.
Homer: Oh, well, he's always happy. No, wait he's always mad.

    Marge: What about Bart?
Homer: Let's see, Art, Cart, Dart, Eart. Nope, can't see any problem with that.

Dr. Hibbert: If I didn't know better, I'd say he was trying to moon us.

Smithers: There's a problem with the reactor, what do ya do?
Homer There's a problem with the reactor! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!

Homer: Kid, I won't let you down. I swear to you, when you come out of there the first thing you're gonna see is a man with a good job.
    Patty: Yeah, the doctor.

Homer: ..Shake hands with the Slashco.
    Woman: AHHHHHH!
    Homer: handle first, handle first

Selma: I've got two and a half words for you. Gulp N' Blow

Homer: Step aside, I'll deliver this baby
Dr. Hibbert: Uh, why don't you let me handle it Homer.
    Homer: Oh, college boy, eh.

Highlights include Barnacle Bill's home pregnancy test (with free corn cob pipe), Homer ruining the twist of "The Empire Strikes Back" (who'd have thought Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father), Homer and Marge singing "You Light Up My Life" (It feels so good- right), Homer and Barney watching "Charlie's Angels", The most beautiful moment of Marge's life (with Homer's ass front and center), Shotgun Pete's wedding chapel and casino (10th wedding's on the house), Smithers catching up with Buddy Lou Collier, Homer's part-time jobs (candlestick maker, knife salesman, attack dog trainer) the Repo man (repossessing stuff is the hardest part of my job), The donut man (that's right, all the colours of the rainbow), Marge and Homer reuniting, Homer's "I SHOT J.R." shirt, Mr. Burns playing PAC-MAN, and Bart lighting Homer's tie on fire.

Just watched this again now, and It was better then I remembered (hadn't seen it for a good 6 or 7 years) This episode establishes fully (argugably for the first time) the depth of Marge's love and devotion to Homer, and why she won't leave him after years and many, many episodes of him acting like a jackass.

Also I think this episode separates Selma and Patty in that Selma seems to have a more compassion and sensitivity then her twin, which is something the series has expanded on as the season's gone by.
Homer's Ice cold anger as the kids dissed television is one of the best moments of the season.
My 2nd favourite flashback episode after And Maggie Makes Three
    5/5
