It is the reason I adore The Simpsons. They had me at the endless couch gags.

I didn't think i'd like it the first time i saw it, but Troy McClure was really funny! I liked the act break where the announcer asks "Which popular Simpsons characters have died in the past year?" And it was Bleeding Gums Murphy and Dr Marvin Monroe "They were never popular." 4/5.

This was an episode of sheer genius -so much so that I didn't even properly realize that it was intended to be a "clip show" until it was pointed out to me. It was funny, creative, entertaining and engaging -probably the best clip show I've seen anywhere. 5/5

The more time passes the more I love this episode. Gotta give it a great, which I'm assuming would be 5/5. Troy McClure is just hilarious and the way the clips are shown is much more entertaining than flashbacks of sorts.

This is the best clip show in television history and one of the most innovative episodes the show has ever produced. I also have to disagree with the poster who said he didn't understand how anyone could find the Groening jokes funny... they're extremely funny, though very easy. Especially the "You know, the Simpsons sure have come a long way since an old drunk humanized his rabbit cartoons to retire old gambling debts" line, which had me laughing for a solid minute and a half.

    5/5, A+

It had its merits for bringing up The Tracey Ullman-shorts, something I hadn't seen until then.
The episde feels more like an extra for one of the DVD-sets now.

Great clip show, not as good as the one from season 4, but still great.

And it's always great to see the Tracy Ullman shorts.

Such a great episode. I never even considered it a clip show until it was pointed out to me. It's just a fun episode with plenty of humour, and Troy McClure was spot on as always. 5/5.

Considering how much the writers and producers hated the idea of clip shows, this was a great one because it looked like they were having a lot of fun and put more effort into it. It's one of the few instances of "Tracey Ullman" shorts ever being aired outside of the original program, featured actual deleted scenes, and the whole episode was just Phil Hartman speaking with some humorous Troy McClore bits, with my all-time favorite moment featuring the character (as shown in the framegrab):

If that's what they cut out, what they leave in must be pure gold!

Certainly the best clip show in the history of The Simpsons (although that's probably not saying much). Unlike the others, it provides some much-needed behind-the-scenes information which was cleverly blended with classic-era-style humour. Troy's reaction to the "Good Night" short was a particular highlight.

Now that is how you do a clip show. Threw in everything but the kitchen sink, and borrowed some of the shows funniest clips.

    Best Quotes:
    Troy Mclure's: They haven't changed a bit,
    You got some attitude mister,
Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable.

Marge: Bart, stop pestering Satan (Treehouse of Horror IV)

Homer: Or what, you'll release the dogs or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths, and when they bark, they shoot bees at you.
Well go ahead. Do your worst.
Mr. Burns: Smithers, release the robotic Richard Simmons.
    (...)
Smithers: It's ass is gonna blow! (Burns' Heir)

Matt Groening: Get out of my office!!

Highlights include meeting Matt Groening, deleted scenes, the trick trivia questions, the photos of James L. Brooks and Sam Simon and the hardcore nudity ending.
Phil Hartman was fantastic as usual.
