Rate/Review Futurama: The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings (Series Finale)

    9/10

This episode was great! A great way to end the show yet not acting as a way to tie up every loose end. It started off slow, but it built up to a great climax and the last scene broke my heart.

yeah i thought the last scene was great. There were also a lot of good laughs in there, especially with the robot devil.

I really liked it. Hilarious characters (Hedonism-bot's my new favorite), good jokes, and the opera ending was a classic.

Excellent! It was funny, touching, and creative. The great thing is that it was totally unpredictable, and the humor about predictability was good, too. The plot was genuinely original, and nicely-paced...but a little rushed in the third act. And I guess it was kind of...akward to see the Robot Devil in some of his scenes (especially at Planet Express). I was also relieved that nearly every joke landed perfectly, and each character got enough airtime (we gone one last "Bite my shiny metal ass!" Yes!). But I'm still not really sure how I feel about the opera singing, and the abrupt ending. But I think I like it because it let's you come up with your own ending and the viewer gets to decide how things end between Leela and Fry for themselves. I like that idea.

So, despite a few flaws, this was truely a good send-off for an otherwise outstanding episode of an outstanding show. 8/10

Also, what was the opening subtitle gag? I missed it.

I liked it, and how the opera at the end I could guess everything they were gonna say next, but the episode in general wasnt what I expected and I didnt really like it ALL, But it was alright. I liked the picture at the opening.

It featured a picture of Fry, Bender, and Leela, and it said "See You On Some Other Channel".

As I said on PEEL, best episode ever. 10/5.

"I want to see how it ends."
It's over, everyone. So ends a brilliant show, and the finale was a great episode all-around.

True, it didn't have a great number of laughs along the lines of "Roswell", but it was certainly funny and the plot/pacing was terrific. Being a musician, I loved how this episode was devoted to the power of music. And the music, by the way, was wonderful.

1st act: Loved the Donkey Kong joke (first and last episodes of Futurama have 'em now!), being a huge Nintendo fan. And I thought the twist near the end of the act was great; I was sure (along with many others here) that Fry would end up getting Bender's hands...and he ends up getting the Robot Devil's. Also fitting to have Dan Castellanata as the final guest voice. D'oh!

2nd act: Wonderful music, and I loved Fry's usage of his new hands (juggling Bender)...it led to very entertaining scenes. I would've liked to see more of the P.E. Crew, seeing as the episode had a heavy focus on Fry, Leela, Bender, and Beelzebot. I liked the romantic music playing when Leela was eating something similar to a giant cockroach leg, and likewise enjoyed the music of Fry practicing. Bender's "Bite my shiny metal--OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" was terrific!

Finale: Hahah, I've been waiting for a full-on Futurama musical! Good music, good lines...GREAT resolution. I'm glad it didn't end with Leela and Fry being in bed together or something, and finished with some serious CLASS. The last line of the series (said by Leela) is more fitting than any I could've come up with. Coupled with the image onscreen, it got me all choked up.

    5/5!

(of course, in classic tradition, this is my PEEL review as well)

Here's to a great episode, and a wonderful show! We will always remember Futurama!

5/5. I pretty much agree with what all of the above said.

I liked Fry and Bender on Segways.

    Just kidding, ECHELON.

Those opera singers were easily the best part for me. The animation of them dancing was brilliantly hilarious
500 episodes, about 200 good ones.

I am so ashamed... couldn't get out of dinner. Damn it, damn it, damn it. I only saw the last 8 minutes, which I guess roughly translates into the third act. Was nice, but not fantastic, although I'm sure in the context of the episode it was much better

Man.. that was.. great. I didn't watch much Futurama, but I'm glad I caught that one. It was fucking great 5/5. The ending was a bit of a tear jerker too! I always hate seeing good things coming to an end.

exactly, but I really hope they will start new episodes again in a few years. kind of like what they did to scooby doo, they stopped it for a few decades, then they brought it back recently.

    ^Do not do that^

9/10 This episode was one of the best I've seen. It wasn't hilarious but it had laughs and was just overall a great way to end the show. (while leaving it open to more seasons on another network) The best thing was when it landed on the devil's hands instead of Benders, unless you knew the title before seeing it, you almost defintely couldn't have guessed it. My only majore complaint was it didn't have many parts with the members of Planet Express excluding Fry, Bender, and Leela but you can't fit it all into 30 minutes can you?

At comicon they announced Cartoon network picked up Futurama and will hopefully air new episodes.

    thats from http://www.aintitcoolnews.com

It was a great episode, I was sooooooo sure it was going to be Benders hands, although does Leela still have Calculons ears in the end or can she magiclly hear again?

    I taped it

    Futurama is over.

But it ended well. Freakingly superly well. Better than my expectations. What others mentioned above sums it up for me.

    10/10

The episode didn't begin well. The acting was off, and the linking to past episodes wasn't interesting. Although we all knew the holo-phoner was coming back, it JUST came back--with Fry dully explaining that he was practicing, and why. While it was necessary for the people who hadn't seen the past episodes that set this one up, it was poorly done, and I think it would've been better to just write it assuming that the viewers (most likely long-time fans of Futurama) would undertsand, at least this time.

Thankfully the episode got a little better starting with the scenes in hell (Heh, I actually thought it would be Bender's hands, those sly devils). As the "deals" kept piling up, it became more interesting and surprising. I have to say I really hated the part where Leela not only told us she was deaf, but exactly WHY it was a problem. Did they think we couldn't figure out for ourselves? Was it intentionally corny as a joke? Either way, I found it annoying. Luckily the last part at the opera was highly enjoyable. The lyrics were great, and it was funny. I also thought it fun to see a "showdown" of sorts with the Robot Devil. In the end however, it didn't much for the Fry/Leela relationship than the past episodes this season have done.

For a series finale, I would've liked better, but it was good enough. 3/5

I planned on watching the whole thing... but then I had to take a crap. I saw 10 or 15 minutes of the ending, and the very end was one of the best I've ever seen for a TV show. From what I saw, 5/5.

A good episode, maybe underwhelming, but I can't hold that against it seeing as how insane expectations for a finale (that was really only a semi-finale) are unavoidable.

Two gripes: 1) Bender's out-of-the-blue suggestion for Fry to make a deal with Beelzebot. It seemed like a rather glib link, that could've been punched up easily enough. 2) I liked the idiot savant idea with Fry, but I think they should have played up how dumb he actually is alongside his sudden mastery of the holophoner.

Other than that it was solid, though the only really outstanding moments were in the third act with the opera scenes.

An all out enjoyable and funny series finale to a remarkable show that compares to the best. The show indeed went out with a bang with this episode. My hopes were sliding downhill about halfway through this season after some lackluster episodes but I absolutely LOVE this episode. A perfect 5/5!

oh well, we still have the upcoming game, and Cartoon Network is intersted in maybe airing new episodes, and a movie is being planned.

    coolness for all!

Meh...didn't do too much for me. Had some decent jokes but nothing to spectacular. Fry with robot hands? He writes an opera? I didn't buy it. Too bad the series is over however.
I'm really looking forward to watching my season 2 DVD this Tuesday.

Very good as both a series finale and as a sequel to "Parasites Lost", and is probably the second best of the season too (only "Bender Should not be Allowed on TV" was better). A very well-rounded "shippy" episode that successfully manages to balance gags with heart (the Opera scene in particular) and it never got too sappy or self-indulged with its own emotion. The Robot Devil was even better here then he was in "Hell is Other Robots" with his self-pity for losing his hands and his elaborate scheme to get them back. And there were plenty of isolated bits and pieces, like Bender's "Bite my shiny metal..." and freaking out after losing his crotch plate, the reoccurring "irony" gags, and of course the Donkey Kong homage in the holophone image.

Unfortunately, and I hate complaining about great episodes, especially when it's no direct fault of it, but the actual ending where Leela asks Fry to continue his recital wasn't as impactive as I felt it should've been. I think because of other episodes where she has gotten closer to him only to back away within the next episode ("The Sting" followed by "The Farnsworth Paradox", or even just considering "The Why of Fry"). And the trials and tribulations are mostly from Fry, and Leela's role is more of an obstacle for Fry to overcome, in this case her accepting him for his musical gift. It's reminiscent of "Time Keeps on Slipping", and I think it limits the significance or depth of the story since most of the stock is placed into one character, and somewhat weakens the impact of the story.

Still, it's a great episode that perfectly reflects the overall series. Wish the show had gone on longer, but at least it ended with a bang.

    Grade: A-

    And as for the season.

"Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV" A (It continues to grow on me)

    "Jurassic Bark" A-
    "The Sting" B+
    "The Why of Fry" B
