is it worth the forty bucks?

well, i went to alot of places and did alot of digging around. (after a scapler attack) and found.....*drum rolls* a christmas set. the thing is forty bucks at a (to my annoyance) far away toysrus not in my town. the set looks good, but 40 bucks is a pretty hefty chunk of money. especaily after dropping forty for kang and kodos two weeks ago. so give me your opinions.

    worth it?

Well I guess it depends on how much extra cash you have. It's not as cool as either THOH and if you already have the characters you might want to pass. I got one and I like it, but it's not high on the list of favorites. . . . . oh what am I saying - BUY IT - you'll regret it later.

To tell you the truth, I had a much harder time dishing up $40 for the X-mas set than I did for the THOH 2. But in the end it was worth it. I am missing Lisa so it is nice to have a Lisa variant. Plus, how can you pass up Maggie riding Santa's Little Helper.

I didn't like the x-mas set as much as the THOH2. The only "exclusive" figure in the x-mas set is Maggie on the dog which is not very exciting. The other x-mas figures was basically a slight variant of the old figures.

Playmates should have come up with something differnt for the figures in the x-mas playset. To begin with, Homer can be Santa with white beard.

I also thought the Homer in THOH2 was pretty lame. It would be definetly be awesome if Playmates put the Alien Maggie along with Kang & Kodos.

Overall, $40 on each playset is kind of too much. But they are limited and will help me trading old figures. These two reasons have justified the cost for me.

Maggie riding Santa's Little Helper is really cute. Also, the sitting room evirnoment will help you complete the Simpson family house (you can now have the Living room, Kitchen and Sitting room).

i did like the way the set looked. sept i do wish homer was Santa, too. not only that, but i don't have a lisa. so yes it would be nice to have a variant. hopefully i can round up the cash to get it. to my annoyance though it is nearly time to christmas shop and i am in a state of very umemployment.

i think they are over charging for the set, and making it an exculsive makes it worse. 40 dollars for varaints is alot. but the set as i said looks good.

yes the xmas set with the living room makes a nice simpsons home. i think everyone wishes it was priced at say 24.99 or at most 29.99, but they know they can charge 39.99 and people will buy it. but i think its a fantastic looking set, and anything with the whole family together is a definite must own. end transmission

Yea, passing over the $40.00 is bad enough; but having to hand it over to TRU is the F'n worse. Plus the variants of the figures aren't all that great...BUT I love the Simpsons and the set; and if for nothing else get it becuase of the phrase "Its craptacular" that Bart says thats the coolest.

jolly, your right on with "craptacular" but for some reason the set has me excited about xmas, for the first time in a long time. sort of signals the holidays are coming, and everyone can use that fun and cheer this year. end transmission

Yea with the Simpsons it makes everything a little less sad. But even if I didn't have the Simpsons, all I need this X-mas is "love for my son and daughters, yup alittle LSD is all I need"

    JUST4JOLLY

Is that LSD quote from the show? and if so, which one?

  18. #18

    It is definately worth it.
First off it has 5 figures and a great base.
Second its a limited edition exclusive.

A regular playset is normally $20 and each regular figure is normally $6
, so lets see that would make the base $14 and you get 5 figures @ $6 each would be $30
So $14 + $30=$44 but they are selling for $39.99.

Now as far as the THOH2 my TRU was selling for $35 which is the retail
But that they should have sold for $30 because only 3 figures.

i gave one of the extra xmas sets i was able to get to a friend who is a simpsons viewer but not into them like any of us. anyhow he loved the set, it definitly makes everyone smile when they see it. also the "lsd" comment is from a show, its the one where homer and marge lose the kids to child services and they are placed with the flanders. best quote from that show is from granpa...

Homer:"we leave the kids with you for one afternoon and social/child services take them away"

    Granpa "Bitch, Bitch, Bitch!!!"

    end transmission

You sick little monkeys...I wish I had that much time to kill.

Regarding the Christmas Playset, I think it's overpriced and will sit on our local shelves for a while. I've seen about 20 of the blooming things and they ain't moving. I'll wait until the number starts dropping or maybe I'll luck out and they'll clearance a few...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Playmates will come out with a "Try and Save" set next year...ha! Seriously though, I think Playmates is testing the waters on some major price increases.

    Hey Lance,

You and I are both near the Mason Dixie Line, but I was just wondering if everything is ok in Jackson (I travel to Ms: Luarel, Jackson, Hattiesburg, alot) and I know that yesterday Ms. had a bunch of tornadoes blow through...so everything ok, with where you are? And thanks for the tip about the playset at KB at Northpark.

    Hey Just4Jolly,
Thanks for the concern... And yes...the tornado went just north of my house in Madison. Saturday morning was pretty scary, because we woke up to the alarms going off at 5:20 a.m. Lots of damage up this way, but fortunately, none at my place. Other folks were not as lucky. I only had a few planks blown out of my fence.

Glad to have been a help with the playsets. If you're every up this way again, let me know. I'll keep an eye out for stuff.

I went by TRU again yesterday and they still have plenty of the Christmas sets. Again, I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I think I was burned when I saw the Star Wars Dewbacks on clearance for $29. I paid $80 for mine, just last Spring. :rolleyes

I just wish TRU wouldn't jack up the prices on these exclusives.
