Rate/Review South Park 909 "Marjorine"
just a few things about this episode. it was pretty good, but not as great as i thought it would be. i loved the pet semetary ref (i think it was pet semetary, correct me if i'm wrong), and butters' dad going nuts digging up the body. and plus you couldn't help but laugh at the boys' ridiculousness. it was a good story, but i didn't really laugh a whole lot, besides what i just mentioned. so, still an okay episode but not as good as last week.

poor butters.
was this supposed to be a parody of something in particular? |
Okay, not great. The fortune teller idea started promising, but the end of that plotline was pretty predictable and has been done better by South Park before. I didn't really like the Indian graveyard component, nor Butters's parents' emotional trauma (which I found even less funny in Butters's Very Own Episode). Butters's storyline was better, and I did like his parents' reaction to him coming back. Some good jokes, but uneven overall. 3/5.

I'm not as big a fan when South Park goes overly dark like this. I wasn't sure if Linda Stotch's despair was played for laughs or what, but it was a little disturbing either way (though the pig exploding was fun). I enjoyed the main plot a lot, and I loved the girl's reaction to the boys stealing their paper thing. A few big laughs here and there, and it was good to see Kenny again, but the subplot just made me more uneasy than amused.
3.5/5 B- |
I agree that the subplot was somewhat disturbing because of Linda's despair but thankfully the above average main plot made up for that. Butters was funny as usual, although the over-the-top seriousness amongst characters and Butters' messed up parents are getting a little old. 3/5

The last act was arguably the best, with Kenny blowing up the "device", causing a huge wildfire. The entire Butters/Majorine plot seemed to be glossed over too much, yet I do liked Cartman as "Majorine's mom"...

Episodes about Butters (probably my favorite character) are usually better then this, but even a lesser Butters episode can generally be counted on for laughs. No exception here. Loved the overplayed reactions to "the device", and the hilariously dark ending. 4/5

It was an okay episode held back by a few missteps. The first and second acts were pretty good, with the pig exploding and Butters at the sleepover being my highlights. It's always fun being reminded how Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and the rest of the kids are still just kids and still think and act in naive manners. However, the subplot with Butters' parents never really became all that interesting until the third act when Butters came back, and even then it peetered out too quickly and ended in an unresolved manner. I was also expecting the climax with the boys once they finally have the device to be more over-the-top or extravagant, instead it felt kind of subdued (though the explosion was pretty good). This episode was still good enough to be okay, but it just had a few things holding it back. 3/5

Butters' parents are such morons. They treat the child like horse shit, but when they're dealing with his "death", they become psychotic. :boggled:

I thought they could have done more with Butters being a girl and the sleepover. I'm starting to get sick of Butters's parents becoming unhinged all the time. That was done much better in Butters Very Own Episode. 3/5

Great episode i loved Dad and Cartman playing Butters mom" You must IObey my Authoritay

Last night's ep brought back 4th grade memories of the 'Cootie Catcher' (that's what the 'paper-thingie' was called).
I thought the ep ended abruptly-surprised when it ended; I thought the 30 minutes wasn't up. Butter's mom acted like those over-emotional moms I used to watch on 'Emergency!' as a kid. |

I dunno, something about this episode didn't do it for me. Some laughs for sure, but I felt it went on a downward slope as it went. SP needs to lay off the overdramatic stuff a bit. This season they've had way too much of this with "Die, Hippie Die", "Best Friends Forever", "The Death of Eric Cartman", "Two Days After the Day Before Tomorrow" and this one. |
3/5. amusing, to say the least.
why did they stop doing halloween shows after season 4, anyway? |

I was looking forward to this episode, since Butters is one of favorite characters. I thought it was pretty funny, but I think it could have been better. I did like the whole fortune teller thing, since I used to make those things all the time in elementary school. I thought the sleepover was pretty okay. Although they nailed it on what girl's sleepovers were like. Butters freaking out over light as feather was pretty good. Also, i don't why, but I found when Butters was knocking at the door and his parents were freaking out was hilarious. This episode just further proves how messed up Butter's parents are. Oh and I liked how Cartman pretended to be Butter's mother on the phone and how that girl's mom was telling her about how "majorine's mother" told her she better respect her authority. |
Kind of a disapointment. I missed last weeks and from what I hear from that discusion it was much better then this one. Very predictible and I thought it might have been a repeat. The girls feeling sory for butters was funny though.

I giggled non-stop during this episode. Something about butters at the slumber party really did tickle me I'm surprised at the low key reception to this one. I must have had a strenuous day at work and was in an easily-amused mood |

About as good as South Park is capable of right now. Slow-paced, a few memorable moments, especially Butters asking for spaghettios at the very end and Cartman calling Butters a black asshole (though that's a guilty pleasure laugh). They need to quit with the long-running joke of people being too stupid to understand something. Last week, it was global warming. This week, it's the boys with the "device." It's funny for about a minute, but when it runs through the whole episode it becomes tiresome.
By the way, the dramatic music that plays NONSTOP gets very annoying. We get it, the show is pretending to be a drama even with a silly situation. It's not necessary for every episode to be like this. And how long has this been happening? At least since some time in season 8. It feels like the show isn't capable of being just plain silly anymore, and it takes itself too seriously for what it's worth. C- |
Pretty good episode, i thought the Pet Sematary thing was quite funny(but no-one else seems to like it).For some reason I found the girls reaction to the boys taking the "device" amusing-"does anyone have a notebook so i can make another one". I thought it was very good but i'll find any South Park episode good these days 4.5/5

Liked it .

Pretty good, better than most of the awful episodes from Season 8.

Good old South Park is back, that was great episode! 4.5/5

The ending seemed really abrupt, the episode didn't really finish properly. It was mostly funny (mostlee), but not as good as other episodes this Season.
