Holy shit, The Postal Service kicks all ass. Gilmore, you magnificant bastard.
welcome to the club. that album fuckin rules.
The (male) vocals remind me of Ben Gibbard's from Death Cab for Cutie...any relation?
We Will Become Silhouettes...very nice.
His clone sang the vocals.
You're making a funny, right Rich? Because you're aware that Ben is half the band, right?
~gil
Sorry music nerds, I seem to have shamed myself and my entire family. I haven't heard anything from The Postal Service until last night, and haven't really researched them yet. I know, it was pretty obvious, so yes, let me just say that I was making a funny, hah.

What exactly is the difference? I thought the original version didn't have swear words in it anyway. I have a version with the following lyrics:
[Dr. Dre]
Yo man there's a lot of brothers out there
flakin and perpetratin but scared to kick reality
[Ice Cube]
Man, you been doin all this dope producin
You ain't had a chance to show 'em what time it is
[Dr. Dre]
So what you want me to do?
{Express yourself!}
[Dr. Dre]
I'm expressin with my full capabilities
And now I'm livin in correctional facilities
Cause some don't agree with how I do this
I get straight and meditate like a Buddhist
I'm droppin flava, my behaviour is hereditary
But my technique is very necessary
Blame it on Ice Cube; because he said it gets funky
when you got a subject and a predicate
Add it on a dope beat; and it'll make you think
Some suckers just tickle me pink - to my stomach
Cause they don't flow like this one
You know what? I won't hesitate to diss one
or two before I'm through, so don't try to sing this
Some drop science; while I'm droppin english
Even if Yella, makes it a-capella
I still express, yo, I don't smoke weed or sess
Cause it's known to give a brother brain damage
And brain damage on the mic don't manage - NUTHIN
but makin a sucka and you equal
Don't be another sequel.. {Express yourself!}
{Express yourself!}
{Go on and do it..}
{Express yourself!}
{Express yourself!}
{Go on and do it..}
[Dr. Dre]
Now, gettin back to the PG
That's program, and it's easy
Dre is back, new jacks are made hollow
Expressin ain't their subject because they like to follow
the words, the style, the trend; the records I spin
Again and again and again - yo, you're on the other end
Whatch a brother blend dope rhymes, with no help
There's no fessin or guessin while I'm expressin myself
It's crazy to see people be
what society wants them to be, but not me
RUTHLESS, is the way to go, they know
Others say rhymes which fail to be original
or they kill where the hip-hop starts
Forget about the ghetto, and rap for the pop charts
Some musicians cuss at home
But scared to use profanity when upon the microphone
Yeah, they want reality, but you will hear none
They'd rather exaggerate a little fiction
Some say no to drugs, and take a stand
But after the show, they go lookin for the "Dopeman"
Or they ban my group from the radio
Hear N.W.A. and say, "Hell no!"
But you know it ain't all about wealth
As long as you make a note to.. {Express yourself!}
{Express yourself!}
{Go on and do it..}
{Express yourself!}
{Express yourself!}
{Go on and do it..}
[Dr. Dre]
{Express yourself!} .. from the heart
cause if you wanna start to move up the chart
then expression is a big part of it
You ain't efficient when you flow, you ain't swift
Movin like a tortoise, full of rigor mortis
There's a little bit more to show
I got rhymes in my mind, embedded like an embryo
or a lesson - all of 'em expression
And if you start fessin, I got a Smith and Wessun for ya
I might ignore your record because it has no bottom
I get loose in the summer winter spring and autumn
It's Dre on the mic, gettin physical
Doin' the job, N.W.A is the lynch mob!
Yes I'ma climb, but you know you need this
And the knowledge is growin just like a fetus
or a tumor, but here is the rumor
Dre is in the neighborhood and he's up to no good
When I start expressin myself, Yella, slam it
Cause if I stay funky like this I'm doin damage
Or I'ma be too hyped, and need a straight jacket
I got knowledge, and other suckers lack it
So, when you see Dre, a DJ on the mic
Ask what it's like - it's like we're gettin hyped tonight
Cause if I strike, it ain't for your good health
But I won't strike if you just.. {Express yourself!}

iTunes is what mac users use instead of winamp. Asside from telling you how many times you've listened to a song it organizes your mp3 files automatically, imports songs from CDs, burns music and mp3 CDs and so on.

I just came back from the Broken Social Scene show. Great, great stuff. Before they went on stage my friend and I guessed that a dude with some dark shades on in the very dark room was the lead singer/mr rockstar, the lead singer of Stars (who opened and were pretty good too) overheard and insisted that they were perscription sunglasses and dragged the guy over to convince us. The dude was just a bass player but was a lead singer on one of the songs.
The lead singer of Stars is also a flaming homo, but we respect him: "This one goes out to all the faggots out there! And for all the faggots who've supported us! This is a song about Peter Pan being buggered by Captain Hook..."
Unfortunately BSS wasn't on for too long because it sounded like they were having monitor problems but they were great none the less. They threw out the kicking 'Almost Crimes' and dedicated 'Cause=Time' to the "Piece of shit president of the United States".
But I have some news for those who have not been able to get the album. Since they sold the ellusive "You Forgot it In People" at the show for $15 Canadian (cheap) I got two of them and I'll sell it to one of you music nerds who are lookin' for it for the American equivalent ($10) plus shippin'. Give me a PM if interested.

String Cheese is a definite. They always put on a great show. If I remember correctly, lee has been to one of their shows, so you can ask him for his opinion as a fellow music nerd. You might want to download "Black Clouds" and "Shenandoah Breakdown" to see if it's your cup of tea.
moe isn't really ... any good. But I always enjoy their concerts since it's a fun environment. Lots of weed, beer, frat boys, and friendly hippies.

Since this has become a loose music discussion then:
I went to my local record store, Plan 9 (In Richmond, VA), and to my surprise a band was playing. Guess who it was? It was Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Kicked all sorts of ass. They played:
Where Have all the Rude Boys Gone?
High Party (awesome live in a record store, nice and loud)
Dead Voices
The Crane Takes Flight
The Ballad of the Sin Eater
and ?
After High Party, he says, "This is part of the gig where I ask myself, 'Why did I wear a jacket in this weather?' and I answer myself, 'Because if I took my jacket off then it would be a wet T-Shirt concert, and I don't think anybody wants to see that". They only played for 45 minutes because it was like a preview for their gig at this place called Alley Katz. Before they played the last song he says, "We'll play one more song so you all can go back to your protests". Got a little chuckle from the audience (Don't know the name of the last song, reason for the ? above but had a girl on violin). All and all it was a nice surprise. I think the bassist was looking at me weird.
1. T.L. and the Pharmacists- High Party (again, awesome live)
2. Electric Six- Danger! Danger! High Voltage! (Creepiest video I've ever seen)
3. Stereolab- Metronomic Underground (see location in handle)

Two of The Shins live in Portland now. Mercer played a small, unannounced acoustic set at a local bar here last November. The Shins are working on a new album and working their respective day jobs.
I felt like quoting that song because of all the mentions of "seeing the stripes". Please forgive me.
On a completely unrelated noted, I ran into none other than Stephen Malkmus last night at Beulahland (local bar). When not on stage, he's so normal looking that he looks just like...me. It was bizarre. I was a starstruck dorkus and couldn't even bring myself to congratulate him on a great new album...I just smiled at him and wandered over to meet my friends at the bar. Dork.

Can't believe you whiffed on meeting Malkmus. Genius.
In the meantime... 4/5 on Pig Lib. I'm not feeling it yet, though soon... soon...
He lives here, and it's not a big town. I'm sure I'll run into him again and make him sign all my Pavement albums. And then my tits.

This forum is as good as any... did you ever listen to PSoI? I heard one or two songs, and never came back to it. I'd be interested in hearing the official MNK verdict.
Or, in the alternative, you could just sign *my* tits, and forgo giving any opinions.
Your penchant for abbreviation confuses me.

3. "Swing, Swing," All-American Rejects
4. "All We Have Is Now," Flaming Lips
P.S.-"Superman" rocks! Loved it ever since I heard it on the sndtrk for THPS & in Kingpin. Also, what's the Beastie Boys song that starts out "Here's a little story/I gots to tell/About 3 bad brothas/You know so well"? Oh, and is "Everlong" the FF song that goes "Breathe out/So I can breathe you in"?
P.P.S.-There's this girl I'm trying to get to know that's going to my new high school. She likes Dashboard Confessional, Staind, Used & =w=. What are some similar bands?
