You mean the one with Robin Williams and Burgess Meredith? Terrifying...truly terrifying...
...not to mention that it's directed by Robert Altman.
Yes, THAT Robert Altman.
And that's Ray Walston, not Burgess Meredith as Pappy.
Can't believe I watched twenty minutes of it this weekend.

I never heard about a lawsuit regarding the lift, especially since critics AND the the band openly referred to the Three Girl Rhumba lick at the time of the album's release. Justine even made a joke about it being a cover when I saw them live.
Hook me up with details on the lawsuit...I always thought Wire were being good natured about it. They said in an interview that they like the song.

Oh I thought I did care about Aaliyah, and I always will. I've been a fan of her since I was in 3rd grade and was devestated when she died. I love her music and I don't care what you say, she's staying in my sig. Don't presume I don't like her, why would I fake it? I don't comment on your awful post and I pray to the REAL Jesus that you will soon be banned.

Badly Drawn Boy-You Were Right
Joy Division - Transmission
Coheed & Cambria - Heartshot Kid Disaster
Cursive - The Lament of Pretty Baby
The Stone Roses - Breaking Into Heaven
im on modem now, so i cant check, but the version of sail to the moon i have is absolutely horrible and you can hardly pick up what the song is.
is your version better?
i should hope so if it's stuck in your head.
It's a pretty decent version in my opnion
so there is a discernable song (ie drumline, guitar).. not just voice? i can pick up the words, but the actual music is garbled.
another money track: i promise.
I can hear a clear piano, synthesizers in the background, guitar is quite clear as well as the drumline.
I've always had trouble deciphering Yorke's singing but it's decent here. But it's quite good.

2. The Music - The People
3. The Music - Jag Tune

Yeah but the truth is I was! One in A Million was one of the first Cd's I ever bought. I wasn't a fanatic when she died, but it made me drag out the old Cd and buy the new one and I really got into it, and now she is one of my favorites. Sorry I got worked up.

To the hip hop and R&B community she was wonderful, to you guys she isn't, you don't understand it and I don't understand rock., but I respect it. 1.)Linkin Park - "Pts.Of.Athrty"
Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last
You love the way I look at you
While taking pleasure in the awful things you put me through
You take away if I give in
My life, my pride is broken
You like to think you're never wrong
(You live what you’ve learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(You live what you’ve learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(You live what you’ve learned)
You want to share what you've been through
(You live what you’ve learned)
You love the things I say I'll do
The way I'll hurt myself again just to get back at you
You take away when I give in
My life, my pride is broken
Chorus
Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last (2x)
Chorus (2x)

So as not to be repetitive, may I suggest switching to the Vines' cover of Outkast's "Ms. Jackson"? Good choices, otherwise.
the ms. jackson cover is horrible. i actually started laughing when i heard it on the radio. then when i heard it was the vines, it confirmed my fears that the band does, indeed suck ass.
lee, your list of Beatles and Radiohead covers is sorely missing Pedro the Lion's "Let Down".

In Entertainment Weekly's review of 3 Doors Down's new album, they said it was so mediocre that it made Nickelback look like Nirvana. Also, Rolling Stone said in their review of NOW 11 they said on the "talented" end of the music spectrum, there was Nelly and NORE. On the "opposite" end though, there was Chad Kroeger & Josey Scott and Hoobastank which "produced rock too bland to roll." But then both mags raved over crap like SOAD and the unbelievably-somehow-compared-to-Zeppelin Audioslave. Are those reviewers screwed up or what? P.S.-Nirvana are NOT the "gods of rock" nor are they the greatest rock band ever, the Beatles are. So anyone who says differently is either mentally retarded or just misguided. Also, The Wrist-Slitters AKA Joy Division are by no means a great band.
Black Sabbath, New Order, Foo Fighters: GREAT BANDS.
Ozzy, Joy Division, Nirvana: MOST OVERRATED BANDS EVER.

I don't find Joy Division depressing as much as I find them cathartic. But however you feel about them I will maintain that they were one of the best and more original bands to have come along.
But I have no idea why you constantly rag on the band. Joy Division was an indie band that was never popular on a grand scale, it had one song that got into the charts and hit #13 and that was only in the UK. JD just endears through the years and serves as an influence and reference point (see Interpol).
Surely more original than matchbox twenty in my mind. It's a shame that the only thing you can complain about JD is that it's "depressing."

wow. my musical tastes rocked back then. =\
In other news, seeing Quasi and Powderfinger appear in lists gives gil a boner.
Yeah, I saw your favorite bands list, I liked a few of them alot and so I thought I would give Quasi a try. Glad I did, they're now on my favorites list and I just bought "Featuring Birds" off half.com. I plan to pick up at least one more, but I'm not sure which. I'll probably keep downloading off Kazaa, compare the music on each album. What do you think, The Sword of God, Field Studies, R&B Transmogrification maybe?
Also, any other good indie rock to reccomend?
Might as well give my list of 5, even though its not the end of the week and I just did it a few days ago...
Quasi - The Poisoned Well
Spoon - The Way We Get By
Spoon - Fitted Shirt
The Shins - Girl on the Wing
Interpol - Roland
Field Studies Field Studies Field Studies
Sword of God is a little too melodramatic and uneven for my tastes, and R&B is almost a little too weird in spots (though "Clouds" is beautiful). You picked their best on first buy, well done.
Being that you dig the Quasi, check out The Spinanes, Mates of State, Sunset Valley and Henry's Dress. And of course Elliott Smith as well as Elliott's and Sam's old band Heatmiser.

No, no, no. I've been a Used fan for over a year and for some reason "On My Own" has been in my head... I know "The Taste Of Ink" is on the radio... but I don't listen to the radio much. Both are good songs though.

How bout the Little Drummer Boy with David Bowie. IT's funny:)
Rather than making a new topic, I'll just post in this one.
So I've got about $100 left over from my paycheck and I'm looking to pick up some CD's. I've been shopping off half.com lately and so far I've picked up two Quasi CD's "Featuring Birds" and "Field Studies" and also Spoon's "Girls can Tell" and Interpol's "Turn on the Bright Lights".
Still want more though, and right now I'm big on indie rock. I've sampled some Built to Spill songs and like em alot, but I'm not sure which album would be the best buy. Opinions? Keep it like a Secret, Ancient Melodies Of The Future, There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Perfect From Now On...hmm.
Also planning on buying some Pavement. Liked all the songs I've downloaded from them thus far, so what do you think? Crooked rain Crooked rain, Slanted & Enchanted, Brighten The Corners, Wowee Zowee, Terror Twilight. Lots of picks, heard songs off crooked rain, slanted and enchanted and brighten the corners, the rest I'm not sure about.
Thinking about getting some Dismemberment Plan, been listening to alot of songs off Emergency I and Change.

Stevie Nicks is so overrated-c'mon it's not sacred material-and neither is Def Lepperd!
That Sev song isn't really good in my opinion, I just can't get the chorus out of my damn head.

After less than 5 months of playing, I've managed to use the meager basics of the guitar and turn it into a song. Everything in this song is mine, except for the last part, if you recognize I'll tell you why it's there. There's always people in my house so I haven't been able to put lyrics here... And I doubt my mic would do my voice justice in the first place... The strumming leaves alot to be desired but eh... This is just a rough draft though... I'll just start on something new after this... This is my first time struggling to record something on my crappy computer...

I hope they're not corny
We're almost at the 1000th reply to this thread, kids! I suggest we wait and let gil, the creator of this thread make the coveted 1000th post since this thread is his baby. In this post he will of course give a top 5 but if I may be so bold I would like to see gil's Top 5 Songs Stuck in His Head This Year. Afterwards we would all give our yearly top 5's.
Let's give it up for gil... who puts the Christ in Gilchrist.
As for my top 5 this week:
1.Belle and Sebastian - O Come, O Come Emmanuel (http://nohomers.net/staff/comrade/Emmanuel.mp3) Belle and Sebastian doing my fave Christmas song. Rawk!
2. New Order - Age of Consent (thanks to lee)
3. !!! - There's No Fucking Rules Dude
Okay I just recently downloaded this week's stuff. I'm getting bored of the 80s and need some new stuff so I stumbled upon this band with the princelike name of !!! which is sort of like electronica meets funk meets the clash. Good stuff.
4. Neko Case - Blacklisted (thanks to gilmore for introducing me into some mazzystarrish material)
5. Wire - Start to Move (Pink Flag is a must)
I'm locking this thread temporarily because I know one of you kids will scramble to post the 1000th reply before gil gets a chance to.
