I downloaded Funeral a few days ago wanting to see what all the hype was about. First few listens I thought 'what the fuck?'. I listened to it more seeing as though people all over the net were still jizzing over it. I love this album now. My favourite of the year. Songs stuck in my head:
The Arcade Fire - Neighbourhood #2 (Laika)
The Arcade Fire - Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)
The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
The Arcade Fire - Haiti
The Arcade Fire - Crown Of Love
:bang:
09-20-2004, 08:38 AM
don caballero - you drink a lot of coffee for a teenagerhttp://aint.co.jp/fro/icon/awesome.jpg
the libertines - last post on the bugle
okkervil river - it ends with a fall
the arcade fire-
I'm jumping on the arcade fire gravy train as well despite the hype. I downloaded it it a couple of days ago and I'm still listening to it, perhaps my album of the year. However my favourite track is not neighbourhood #3 (power out) by a longshot, 'tunnels', 'laika', 'une année sans lumiere', 'haiti', 'rebellion (lies)' and 'in the back seat' are the golden tracks for me.
I also dig previous crap like 'old flame' and 'i'm sleeping in a submarine' (although the latter sounds hugely bjorkish).
But one must feel sorry for nate who is so consistantly put off by hype. He'll enjoy this album in a few months.

agreed. "neighborhood #3 (power out)" appeals immediately, but i wouldn't say it's the finest song.
does anyone else think that the ep is one of the best releases of last year? with the exception of "the woodland national anthem", every song is seriously fucking great.

The album's probably the best thing they've done, it's definitely the most ambitious. The song "American Idiot" isn't a great representation, but it's the first track, and one of only a few that doesn't merge with the next, so you can skip it. There's nothing that immediately jumps out at you about any of the songs (except for Jesus of Suburbia, which is amazing) but it's a very solid and cohesive album as a whole. The songs are generally more mature and less "catchy" than on previous albums, so it takes a couple of listens to fully appreciate them, but they're all good in their own way, imo. If you liked Nimrod, you’ll probably like this too.
And so ends the longest and most seldom read post in this thread.
I am also enjoying the hell out of "american idiot".
commence gasps of horror.
