"kill the alligator and run" is stupid fun too. doesn't stop it being irritating, boring, and lifeless.
Simpsons episodes are very different than retro rock bands, though.
And even so, "KTAAR" didn't even cut it as stupid fun. All these garage bands are more along the lines of, say, "'Kidney Trouble.'" I know it's bad, but it's still amusing enough for me to not really give a damn.

i don't get this constant inverted-snob musical argument that because something is "fun", it is somehow beyond criticism.
it's not beyond criticism. The criticism is entirely justified, it's that I just don't care. The criticism, no matter how valid it is, isn't going to stop me from mildly enjoying, say, a Vines song every now and then.
And just for the record, I don't own any Darkness, Jet, Hives, Vines, etc. albums, and never plan to. I just don't get that irritated with these and others bands like them when I occasionally run into their new songs. The Strokes and the White Stripes are the only neo-garage-retro-whatever bands that I think are truly credible.
Originallsy posted by Mohammed Jafar
i also don't get the defense of the darkness that they are somehow "putting the fun back into mainstream rock" or something. because every white stripes or strokes single is a whiny acoustic ballad or something? pfft
yeah, that's kinda dumb. I don't get this argument either

hey, you're the one who made the cross-reference in the first place.
The Darkness are basically a good example of everything Spinal Tap is lampooning (despite the, what, twenty year time span, or so?)
whoa... comixfan just did a jafar-esque post.... on JAFAR

it's also the original track 9, before terrorists ruined the tracklist for "is this it?". only uk record buyers have the original album configuration, complete with uber-hot hip shot:

Some of the songs I posted early on were songs I'd heard on the radio, not all being of personal taste.
Xiu Xiu - Blacks
Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely
Nick Drake - 'Cello Song
Echo & The Bunnymen - Do it Clean

haha, I think the "bio" part saves him.
as for my change in musical taste: I think if you check some of my very early posts in this thread you'll find some stuff like The Ataris and MxPx, who I don't really listen to all that much anymore (not that I have any personal beef with them or anything, I just don't find them as interesting anymore).
though the NHC is heavily responsible for my specific new tastes in music, it really wasn't this place that had them change so quickly. My musical choices have been changing rapidly ever since I started listening to music in the first place.

I'd also suggest skimming through the rest of this thread. About a week ago I went through a bunch of pages looking for downloads, and I came across one for "Intensify." I can't remember who posted, unfortunately.
milhouse message me on aim at shindigidy and I'll gladly hook you up.
be prepared to start ass-shaking in your computer chair though.
