Okay, today I was at Best Buy trying to burn off the rest of my gift card, and almost bought a Guided By Voices album, but was reluctant, since I had no idea if it'd be my kinda thing. I noticed that they were on Matador, and I know the Pornographers are on that same label, and I love the Pornographers. I also remembered that the Strokes mentioned GBV in their "thank you"'s. So, which bands would you compare GBV to?

If there were a way to do it, I would bet both of you that "Dracula's Wedding" is a novelty-esque track that you won't be listening to months from now.
Give me Southernplayalisticwhathaveyou, Rosa Parks, BOB, any of the singles, any of their albums, I love them, but I just don't like this particular track. 'tall.
I'll see that bet and raise you an "I still listen to wesley willis' greatest hits on a regular basis".

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

I need to ask you a question:
I bought The Work of Director Michel Gondry on DVD earlier this week, and one of his videos is for Daft Punk's "Around the World". Awesome video, and I thought it was quite an awesome song, too. Are any Daft Punk albums worth picking up, or should I just stick with a few individual songs?
homework is pretty good. but only about half the tracks are really worth it.

but for the love of fuck don't get "Discovery".
i always thought they were really overrated (circa Homework). they were hardly doing anything radical - funky, sure, but just following standard formulas. but a lot of Homework is quite good.
Air, however, are essential. i know bringing them up alongside daft punk is a huge cliche, but nevertheless.
french techno krew stoked
I never really liked Daft Punk but dug Air. I was more of a Chemical Brothers kind of guy, one of those who live for 6 minutes and 30 seconds into Elektrobank.
Blackbird- The Beatles
Saint Simon- The Shins
Pink Bullets- The Shins
Monsoon- Trail of Dead
Knock me Down- Red Hot Chili Peppers
in my opinion:
homework > discovery
by a LOT. i recently downloaded "homework" and found myself liking it a lot, especially that track which is hypnotizing.

Personally, I like discovery but it basically turns into a pile of mush at the halfway point. It gets way, way, way too repetive without the interesting beats/vocal tracks of the first half.
One More Time, Aerodynamic, Harder Better Faster Stronger (insert cheesiness bonus factor here), Crecendolls and too a lesser extent, Too Long are all great and very catchy, just like the highlights from the original are.
I've found that with Daft Punk one main beat is carried through the entire song, so if it sucks the song sucks.
Anyhow, this is the first I've heard of Air (my musical exposure is lacking), what's recommended album-wise by them?

At the mo, it's still that "Bo Selecta- Propa Chrimbo" I can't get it out of me head!
That mad world song, is starting to flood through my mind, and even though I'm trying to keep it out, that bastard "Merry Christmas- War is over" song and "Feed the world" song are in my mind, cos every radio station are playing them.
Damn them!
