Size 5 so it counts as 5.

I figure it's time this song gets put into the spotlight...either so I can see if gil actually doesn't like it, confirming my suspicions...or to (hopefully) let it get the love I think it deserves.

Hmm. I see where you're coming from. I really just think the whole "dance punk" thing is a novel idea...but supposedly it's already become run it's course among anti-hipsters. Plus I really like the energy the record has. One can't deny that it's better suited to a party with dancing or something. I like it because it's something I wouldn't be ashamed to boogie to.

I forgot to reply earlier:

That's not a They Might Be Giants song. At all. But people mislabel it as such for some reason...

Kind of like how they label "What if God Smoked Cannibus?" as Weird Al, when it's not his style at all, nevermind the fact that it's a women singing.

IT'S COLLEGE RADIO WEEK!
1. "Another Postcard," Barenaked Ladies (It pales in comparison to they're earlier stuff, but it's quite catchy.)
2. "Kissing the Lipless," The Shins
3. "Kennedy," Kill Hannah (Or what Garbage would sound like if they were better and more biting political edge in their lyrics)
4. "Mexican Wine," Fountains of Wayne
5. "Battle Without Honor or Humility," Tomoyasu Hotei (from "Kill Bill, Vol. 1")

ALTERNATE TOP 5-CHRISTMAS TUNES (I APOLOGIZE FOR #3 IN ADVANCE, BUT I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD; CURSE YOU "LOVE ACTUALLY" AND YOUR ENDLESS CHARM!)
1. "12/23/95," Jimmy Eat World
2. "Maybe This Christmas," Ron Sexsmith
3. "All I Want for Christmas Is You," Mariah Carey
4. "Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer," Jack Johnson
5. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," Coldplay

tru. It has this lame Ace of Base sounding synth line to it too. However I do find the imagery of Chimpanzees in jackboots somewhat amusing.

Now that you mention it, the second half of echoes really is the best part.

However, I do still like olio, and really like heaven. "open up your heart" just pisses on the fire that is the electricity built up by the first two songs (mixed metaphors rule).

Liars-mr you're on fire mr
Pavement-at and t (except at 2:41 in when it makes me feel woozy)
Velvet underground-who loves the sun
Beulah-warmer
Trail of dead-source tags & codes

Room service ca-ha-hallllsssssss baby.

Post Classified As: ending a respectable post with embarrassment

No.
Granted, I didn't listen to any MNK bands aside from the flaming lips, Cake, and Radiohead when I joined but they didn't "bully" me into liking it. I just dowload whatever is big with them at the moment and I usually like it. I still listen to a lot of classic rock and other music that you guys would deam shit worthy.

the argument is my favorite fugazi, but 13 songs is vital for any collection.

gil

13 songs or repeater obviously win the fugazi contest.

"vegas remains" - reclinerland
"raggy rag" - fuck
"cinco de mayo" - liz phair
"soldiering life" - decemberists
"something to look forward to" - spoon

hey aso, did you see that article in the city paper last month? the one that blamed ian mckaye for everything that's wrong with the dc scene? wack shit

gil
11-10-2003, 02:20 PM
isn't ian the reason there IS a dc scene? I mean, ian and bad brains.

AllSussedOut
11-10-2003, 02:31 PM
horrible, horrible article. glad you caught it, hj.

gil, the author's point (and bad brains was hardly mentioned, if at all) was to be completely contrarian, and argue that despite whatever good fugazi have accomplished (wc?), that what dc has been left with is a humorless, empty scene, with nothing but wannabe statement makers left in the wake. "no fun allowed," etc.

two weeks prior, there was an "expose" in the same mag about a purported tape that ian had sent way back in the day to... wait for it... cbs records... therefore defiling the mackaye myth da vinci code styyyyyle. ian had no honest idea where the tape had come from, and could only guess at who might have sent it to BIG CORPORATION under his name.

you'd think this city would be appreciative... if these were the only two articles you'd read. BUT. dc loves its bands, and reveres fugazi, this asshole aside. grrrrrrr

Picked up 13 songs today. I dont have an indie store around me anymore so I had to check Best Buy and they didnt have repeater. I also found out I had all but 2 tracks off 13 songs downloaded. Still an amazing album though.
