I think you're actually referring to "alright", from their first album I Should Coco?

ASO and I have jabbered about them numerous times. I don't particularly care for the direction they've taken their sound, but they're still a solid band.

Too true. One of the bigger disappointments out there, as their first two albums stand next to anything else in the 90s.

Sigh.

just got back from the warped tour. saw less than jake, suicide machines, finch, the used, some others and most importantly rancid. i baisaclly didnt do much until suicide machines/rancid. they palyed back to back. only two bands i went into the ceneter of the crowd for. rancid was fucking amazing. they only got 30 minutes and played some of their new stuff, which is not bad. raising females to go crowd surfing ... is a plus.:) anyways, the following songs were stuck in my head for the past week or so, some in preperation for rancid, and some random songs.

yeah...i skipped out on those kind of bands [my friend(s) like simple plan for some reason...then again they also like linkin park :(]. everyone left after rancid. i didnt know phony lived here in MI. finch was on the teal stage, the one right next to the brian stage, where rancid played. that sucks about not being able to go, mv, would have been cool if we met up. also sucks about you not being able to go, comixfan, im sure you would have really enjoyed it. i forgot to mention that i also saw tsunami bomb, and realized the lead singer is quite hot. :)

anyways, just a heads up to hugh jass, dr. cheeks, and any other rancid fans who want to check rancid out live, but dont want to go to the warped tour: they said they were going to be back in detroit for a show in november. it may be part of a tour or something, so they may be playing in a city near you. just thought i'd let you guys know. :)

oh shit, my bad. i got thrice and finch mixed up. sorry for the confusion. :-/ i was really tired when i wrote that up, my bad. and no i did not see the shits, although i did hear them reccommend it. were you near the stage for any of the bands? i was for most of them, and its possible we may have crossed paths. anyways, i wish i knew you were going up there, would have been fun to have met a fellow nhc member/simpsons site webmaster. also, if you saw the used, was it in the middle of "buried myself alive" that they started singing that rap song? that was hi-larious.

My friends (who went to Kansas City) told me that Mest played right before Simple Plan, and while they were playing, teenyboppers were already waiting by the adjoining stage to watch Simple Plan in a few minutes. So the members of Mest started yelling and cussing at the Simple Plan fans, throwing beer bottles, and such. My friends said it was pretty funny. Though it's also kind of ironic, because Mest--while superior to Simple Plan--is basically in the same genre.

I also heard that Simple Plan performs a Bad Religion cover song at each Warped show.

Hell, yeah! :D I really wanted to see them at 2002 Warped, but they were on the same time as No Use for a Name, so I only made it for their last song. :( Good band, though.

Anyways, my top five:

1. "Every Thug Needs a Lady"--Alkaline Trio
2. "It's Summertime"--The Flaming Lips
3. "Riot"--The Sounds
4. "Redundant"--Green Day
5. "Macy's Day Parade"--Green Day

it was awesome, the shits was actually just less than jake wearing shirts that said the shits on them. the cool part was that no one knew thats who it was going to be, so there was only 100-150 people watching and it was easy to get close to the stage. i was close to the stage for starting line, less than jake, and brand new, and i was watching the used from sorta far away but i did hear him rapping, i think it was during "a taste of ink."

So is it safe to download Arab Strab? I'm sorta scared off by pitchfork's rating of it, though I know I wont be.

Anyway...I'm one for hearing lyrics to Belle and sebastien songs. Like I used to think that "The State I am in" began with "my brother had confessed he was gay, it's sick that he loved me for awhile".

And in "Expectations", I used to think the lyric went "and the headset that you always wore, a queer one from the start". Anyway...

Using the Pitchfork as a source for some good new stuff is fine, but you don't have to agree with their every whim, listen to the stuff they mention and you may/may not like it...

Well I don't follow pitchfork's ratings on everything and disagree with alot of them...but if at least a reasonably respected music site gives an album a 0.8 it is either indicative of the album's quality or of the personal tastes of the writer. I was just asking which it was.

Fuck the rules of this thread. I'm posting 13 tracks in advance, per this NME nugget:

BELLE AND SEBASTIAN have named their eagerly awaited new album 'DEAR CATASTROPHE WAITRESS' [zounds!].

The 'proper' follow-up to 2000's 'Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant' (the band released a soundtrack album, 'Storytelling', in 2002) is their first for new label Rough Trade, and is out on October 6. The LP was produced by Trevor Horn, famous for his work with Tatu and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Thanks to Gil. It's downloading now...

If I had *one* wish this holiday season, it'd be for that second B&S track.

If I had... *two* holiday wishes this season, the first would be, of course, the second B&S track, and the second, the much-referenced Outkast track "Hey Ya."

If I had... *three* wishes this holiday season, the first would be the crap about Belle and Sebastian... :)

Been going to the record store a few blocks from my school almost every day, and there's definately a few bands I've been wanting to get into. If a qualified nerd could point me in the right direction, which album out of the following would be the best first purchase if I've never heard them before?

Guided By Voices
The Go-Betweens
Nada Surf
Guster

Might add a couple more later as I think of them. Also, if possible, do a "you'd like the go-betweens if you like ______" kinda deal, helps me out. Or, you could just ignore this, no big deal.

i believe the musically inclined here would agree that Bee Thousand is GBV's best album, can't really help ya on the others though.

Anyways, my list, albeit a little early i think

The Constantines- Night Time Anytime (It's Alright)
Mogwai- Hunted By A Freak (not song that really get's stuck in your head, but uh...yeeeeaaah)
Guided By Voices- The Best Of Jill Hives
Outkast- Hey Ya (god damn songs with their. . .catchyness)
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists- Hearts Of Oak
The Shins- Saint Simon

and yes, i'm aware it is six, sue me

gil
08-27-2003, 07:59 AM
for gbv, you can't go wrong with bee thousand (good call), alien lanes, and under he bushes, under the stars
for guster, lost and gone forever is their best
for nada surf, just getting into them...let go is outstanding.

Just heard "Stay Loose"-- thanks, Gil. Right now, it's a "meh" that will grow on me, almost certainly.

From lurking on B&S boards, I can tell that the song is a one-off, and rather different than the rest of the more "traditional" B&S to be found on the album. The reason I mention it at all is that it might take a bit of getting used to. It's got over-produced Trevor Horn all over it.
