Season finale airing tonight, and for me at least, this is the most unpoiled episode of the season. Nobody has leaked any pre-framegrabs or pre-airings or nuthin, and I havn't even seen a commercial yet either! Hope it's good. Review after it airs.

Maggie? Who knew? A terrific episode, one of my favorites of the season. A great Sopranos parody and I am glad that it lasted as long as it did. It was great to see all those Springfield locations again. I give it an A.

I liked it.
Summer in the City is one of my favorite songs too. And the whole Sopranos bit was pretty good.

Well, what a great way to end Season 13. 5/5

Okay, this episode was just plain entertainment! In fact, I have no idea what people will really complain about! It had great Sopranos parody, funny ending ( I ACTUALLY GUESSED THE SHOOTER! ), great character humor, and more!

I probably give it a 4.5/5, but I rounded it to 5 on the poll.
And you all doubted Dana Gould.

I thought it was pretty good, Soprano's parody was awesome. A lot of re used stuff in it though, and a slow plot, so 4/5.

Wow! Excellent episode! 4/5. It would be a five, but the first act really dragged or me. Reminded me too much of "The Cartridge Family." Other than that, I LOVE Homer listing his old jobs. The episode was genius!

Best Episode of the season, it had such great direction, and great jokes and it reminded me of a classic Simpsons episode, showcasing the towns ignorance as a whole and all the buildings.
What was the name of that song they played while Fat Tony was driving to kill Homer and at the end?

Brought up some interesting points. Maggie dreaming of shooting Burns was good. Homer listing his many jobs and not noticing Marge leaving was classic. Homophobe being the second-last job was good. The music was good. SpringShield was great!!!! The mob parts were okay. The secondary Moe's was funny.

It is actually a good episode and it lived up to it's hype. I loved Maggie at the end! Also, I thought it was hilarious that Homer refered to Maggie as the poop machine. It has the best Maggie moments in a long time. I also love Homer mentioning every one of his past jobs. Also, Moe robbing his own store was hilarious! I also loved when Fat Tony was driving to Springfield. The beginning reminded me a lot of "The Cartridge Family" but that doesn't take away much from the episode. Also, I loved how Homer made a commercial, like in "Mr. Plow". A lot better than Freying game. 5/5!!

Overall a good episode, but the joke of Maggie shooting people is now old. I expected a better ending. At least give Wiggum some credit.

Wow... I'm about to watch it again, but after the first viewing... This is definitely the season finale, and an excellent season finale at that...
I laughed throughout the whole episode... The self references to the show worked good, and a lot of side characters gave great preformances... johnny tightlips was halarious...
"did you see where the shooter is? "
" I see a lot of things..."

5/5... great ep... gotta go watch it again...

My favorite part was the jog montage (if anyone knows it please post it). The first act wasn't too strong except for Lenny and Carl on the cell phone. I'm glad Maggie was noticed. I was right about the johny Tightlips. The lasttwo acts were well-written. Overall a great episode.

I liked this episode! I gave it a 4/5.

My only complaints are that it didn't into the main story until halfway through, and it seems like almost everything in this episode has been done before on the show. Other than that, great. Maggie shot them? Awesome! The scene where Fat Tony and all are driving through Springfield was pretty cool too.

Season 13 is over... sigh. And I must say, at first, I didn't like Al Jean, but ever since Gump Roast, every episode has been an A or B! If Al Jean continues this rise in quality, then he really is the show's "savior".

That episode rocked. I really liked the list of Homer's jobs. Put that in your episode guide Tomacco. It started out awesome with some great stuff related to the heat wave. I like the episode so much, it ties for my favorite of the season with Half-Decent Proposal. I'm pretty hyped about the next season. 5/5

Homer listing all his jobs was a friggin' riot!! I thinked they named all of them! That's goin' in the guide page for sure!

The Sopranos theme was the song they played, by the way.
Hilarious episode. The first act was fine IMO, because it held the same theme as the rest of the episode. This one actually was like a mixture of past episodes:
"Bart of Darkness", "The Cartridge Family", "Homer the Vigilante", "The Twisted Tale of Marge Simpson", and maybe "Homer vs the 18th Ammendment".

The ending was hilarious. Me and my brother watched the episode together, and when they were delaying announcing the shooter, I said jokingly "It was Maggie, like when she shot Burns", and THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED! I was laughing so hard.

It's funny how everyone thought this was going to be the throwaway episode and how everyone also thought "The Frying Game" was going to be 'awesome', well the opposite happend--"Poppa..." really kicked some major ass. This was one of the rare episodes where the show become better as the acts progressed. Act One--average: B, act two--very good: A-, and finally, act three: the best act of season 13, IMO--A++!

Likeable characters, decent plot, and tremendous humor all around.

Overal: 4.5 outta 5 and in the top five for S13!

Jake

Season 13's top Five:

1. Little Girl in the Big Ten (9.5/10)
2. The Old man and the Key (9/10)
3. Half Decent Proposal (9/10)
4. Poppa's Got a new Badge (8.5/10)
5. I am Furious Yellow (8.5/10)

The Maggie ending was the best thing they could have done. Tonight was the best use of Maggie's character ever. I didn't see it coming at all. I assumed it was Wiggum or some of Homer's friends. I am still laughing at this episode. I simply love it. I was about to die from laughing during The Sopranos parody while Fat Tony was driving. Now that the season is over, here is my Top 5:

1. Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge 9.7
2. Little Girl in the Big Ten 9.5
3. Weekend at Burnsies 9.3
3. Half-Decent Proposal 9.2
5. I Am Furious (Yellow) 8.8

This was a big step up from Season 12. I am going to declare it the best season Since 9 -- possibly even 8. :)

Ha ha HA! Why the HELL did the network air this ep on a crappy Wednesday night and not on Sunday night, where ratings could have been higher? This episode is one of the BEST of the season! Nothing too surreal or disturbing pissed me off-- that's a plus. Fat Tony was awesome, but I did anticipate a reason why Fat Tony wanted to kill Homer-- meh. Still awesome-- the jokes were well-done, the Sopranos parody was very amusing, and Homer was unusually calmer. Even the humongous meta-reference of Homer's resume was well-done (someone please post a list!). And what did I say? The saxophone thing was written out (it was the Malibu Stacy collection instead). It was just good to see a GREAT episode like this one end the season instead of awful tripe like The Frying Game. Sorry I underestimated you, Dana Gould! Awesome!

1. Little Girl in the Big Ten
2. Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge (I can't believe I wrote that!)
3. She of Little Faith

btw, what did everyone think of Moe's inserted line "I'm gonna miss Celebrity Boxing"? I thought it was clever to put that in, even though it's cheap promotion. Hope it was the writers' idea.

Best Episode of the Season IMO. The Sopranos parody, Homer listing is job, and the mafia were all great. This episode was actually fun to watch. It was entertaining and it had my attention the whole time. I can't think of anything bad in the episode. It was a great episode overall. 5/5

Overall a very fine episode. It was definently the best "Homer gets a new job" episode in the last couple of years. The only drawbacks in my opinion were the ending and some jokes that dragged on to long such as Homer singing "Radar Love", Fat TOny driving around, and Homer listing off every job he's ever had. I also think the feud between Homer and Fat Tony could have been a little better. Still, overall this episode feels solid and it was a nice way to close out season 13 which has been a great rebuilding year.

A kick-ass episode. I just enjoyed this episode so DAMN MUCH! It focused much more on Homer as a vigilante (legalized) than the mediocre "Homer the Vigilante" and just had sooo many good jokes...so much humor, wit, parody, cleverness, one-liners, jokes, jokes...it goes on. A/A+, probably. The use of minor characters like Ralph, Fat Tony, Tight Lips, Cletus, and Mayor Quimby was sparse and excellent. Also, it had some quick lampooning of September 11, which is still somewhat daring: Quimby saying he'll come out well from a tragedy (satirizing Giuliani and Bush, who almost let the tragedy go on to up their PR) and the T-Shirt seller who was milking off the tragedy while showing false empathy (remember me as a hero!). It was well-directed and styled, and had tongue firmly in cheek. This is, as Tomacco said, pure entertainment.

Eh, it's hard for me to say. MUCH better than The Frying Game, that's for sure. So...I'll say...4.5/5. Jokes were fairly well planned out, plot was decent (but several aspects of the plot were used before), and Fat Tony had a nice role in this episode. The ending was a little awkward to me, what with Maggie being the shooter and having that rifle, but I didn't mind it much. I liked when during the drive-by sequence, you could see Santa's Little Helper and Ralph acting both like dogs. Pretty good episode.

By the way, what did it say on the sign with Superintendent Chalmers on it? I kinda missed it.

Whoah, I thought this episode was going to be terrible, but it was awesome. I noticed some kind of link right at the beginning, with the screaming butterfly, and last Sunday's screaming catepillar. I don't think that was a coincidence.:D
Great visual humour, like Homer sticking to Marge in the beginning, and the melting newspaper ink. The use of supporting characters in this one was great. Anyway here are my highlights:

"I think they demean women!"
-Jimbo, on why he stole Lisa's dolls.

Homer singing "Radar Love"

Sopranos parody, great with all the Springfield businesses.

I'll admit, the singing Santa scene was kind of funnny.

Jughead, Fat Albert, and the Fonz greeting Krabbaple and Skinner!

The return of Johnny Tightlips

The SpringShield commercial, especially the "Friend?...me put in wallet" For some stupid reason that was laugh out loud histerical.

And of course....Homer naming all his JOBS!!!

Did anyone else notice the Church Marquee reead "Tomorrow: Homer Simpsons funeral", and the coldest setting on the airconditioner was "Witch's teat"

Grade: A minus, everything was recycled, but it was done so damn well!!!

Wow!!! This is just another one of those episodes that has a simple and not too breattaking plot and it just becomes such an enjoyable episode. Characters are starting to seem like themselves again...tonight had the best ralph parts since season 9 IMO, Cletus made another funny appearence, I loved the beginning with Lenny and Carl(although I think "jerk off" is right up there with the list of inapproapriate words from this season that shouldnt come back), the looting was funny, Wiggum was great(especially at the end), Barney's recovering alchoholic bit, parodies from The Sopranos and Andy Griffith, Hans Moleman and the other old people were funny too. I dunno it just seems lately the show has gotten back to its roots with a little different style. After Gump Roast, I havent had any complaints at all. I thought "I Am..., "The Sweetest Apu", "Little Girl In the Big Ten", and even "The Frying Game" were damn good. That makes five in a row. And with other great eps such as "Half-Decent Proposal", "The Bart Wants What It Wants" and "Tales..." it's easily safe to say this season has been a huge step up from 11 and 12. WHat we've had in these last 5 episodes has been simpler plots with some interesting twists, characters getting back to their true idenity, great use of minor characters, great parodies and satire...I can't wait to see how season 14 is gonna end up

Ah, I'm in the minority here I can tell, but this episode wasn't anything special. Every aspect of the plot seemed rehashed, the story rambled and didn't seem to go anywhere, and the many of the jokes seemed a bit forced. And one more nitpick, Lenny and Carl are getting REALLY old now.

Still, it did have its moments. Wiggum (one of my favorite characters) and Fat Tony weer both great as usual, Maggie was pretty funny (if the joke about Maggie using a gun is getting a bit old), there was some nice use of music. The best part of the whole episode may have been that driving bit with Fat Tony. Plus, overuse of Lenny and Carl aside, there was some nice use of side characters.

Still, overall, not anything special. Dana Gould has slightly redeemed himself from the atrocious Homer the Moe, but I still don't have much faith in him.

Overall, a C+ or 3/5

No, most of those are real, in the sense defined by Bart on the Road--if you don't get paid for it, it's not a job. Some of the ones that were listed weren't real either--homophobe and celebrity assistant, for example.

But anyways, dividing those out,

Real jobs not listed: Prank Monkey, Barbershop Singer, Power Plant Executive, Relationship Counselor, Inventor, Fast Food Clerk, Pin Monkey, Monorail Engineer, Union President, Blackjack Dealer, Sugar Dealer (If Grease Monkey is allowed...), Medicine Salesman, Navy Captain, Internet Kingpin, Telemarketer, Hollywood Producer, Test Subject, Daycare Owner, Bartender

Petty Jobs not listed: Vigilante, Softball Player, Film Festival Judge, Big Brother, Journalist, Leader of the Stonecutters, Football Coach, Town Crier, Cult Member, Head of a Motorcycle Gang,
Horse Manager

That's what you get when you start nitpicking :)

On "Now More Than Ever," I ran a Google search. It came up with a bunch of different sites with that slogan, most making about as much sense as the Simpsons sign. I think that was just the writers playing tricks with us, but maybe it's an actual reference...

GREAT episode.

Best joke: "See? It's hard when you don't use Milhouse!"

The naming of Homer's jobs was a priceless Family Guyesque moment. Brilliant.

Solid "A", especially for this season.

What the sign said was S. Chalmers was "just being more than himself."

Or, it's like saying "He's 110%."

I remember when they re-aired Lisa the Greek when the network got NFL rights. They edited one of the lines of the commentator in the opening scene to crappily say "Now it's time for football action on Fox!" It was silly, but it was a bit cute. Maybe they'll take the Celebrity Boxing line out for syndication.

Wow! So far this episode has over 65% of the votes for 5/5. With only one person rating this episode below 3/5. Just goes to show that the people here have good taste. I just rewatched this episode and I like it even more: 9.7. My highest review since Season Nine.

Fucking brilliant. This episode was pure hilarity and was extremely well written and well paced. Just unbelievable.

ONLY GOOD, IF NOT GREAT EPISODES OF SEASON 13 THAT WERE NOT WHACKY AS FUCK AND WERE JUST GREAT SIMPSONS EPISODES:

Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge
Half-Decent Proposal
Little Girl in the Big Ten

That is all.

That's three classic episodes this season. Season 12 had one (Trilogy) but all three of these were better. Season 11 had that BTL episode that I hate but people love for some reason. Season ten had Mayored to the Mob. I didn't include Weekend at Burnsies in the list because of the third act, but it was damn good too. Most number of memorable episodes since season 9.

jesus plays his hits, for once I agree with you. But may I also point out that you have once again used the word "fuck" more than once in a single post. ;) I consider this season to have three outstanding episodes (the ones you listed) and three very good ones (I am Furious (Yellow), Weekend at Burnsies, & A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love)

Two Things I wanted to bring to everyone's attention:

1) Was there no couch gag this week or did my local network just skip over it?

2) I am so glad that the lame "I haven't been a size six since prom" line from Homer in the promos wasn't in the real episode.

Great episode! It's not perfect but I'll give it a gold star for effort... this gives me hope that next season will be even better.

The good:
A lot of funny stuff (esp. in the first act - the cinderblock store was classic Simpsons)
Good continuity (Homer listing his jobs from previous eps, the screamapillar metamorphosizing into a screamafly, Maggie with the rifle, etc.)
Incorporating an emotional element to the plot, so the episode wasn't just another stream-of-consciousness gagfest
I didn't notice any overused gags (FYG, fist shaking)
Oh yeah, I'm also glad Fat Tony didn't steal Lisa's saxophone as was rumored... that would have been waaaaay too much like ICP (http://www.thespringfieldshopper.com/guidebabf17.htm).

The bad:
Paced too fast (the timing seemed to be off because they were trying to cram a lot into the episode). In fact, the episode felt like it was time-compressed (like the syndicated reruns are).
Digital video glitches throughout the episode (but that might have been my Fox affiliate, not Fox itself)
Why do they have to threaten to kill Homer off to make it a "serious" episode? There are other ways to add an emotional dimension to the episode, and the writers seem to use this one as a crutch.
I've got "Radar Love" stuck in my head now.

Oh well, it all adds up to 5/5 for S13....

BTW, I have a partial explanation for "Now, More Than Ever"... that was the slogan of NBC News in the early 90's and I think the Daily Show might have also used it at some point... IMO the main joke is that it sounds authoritative but really means nothing (thus making it a perfect slogan for The Daily Show).
I could only find two web sites linking NBC and the slogan: a site selling phone cards (http://www.moneycard.com/amtechas.htm) (with an image of an NBC News phone card (http://www.moneycard.com/access.gif)) and some kind of web opinion column (http://www.mikejasper.com/column82.htm). Needless to say it's not on NBC's web site (http://www.nbc.com/NBC_News/).

The way that it was said, it made me feel that they were making fun of Celebrity boxing... and thank god for that. They imply that the only people who would actually watch it are a bunch of lowlife barflies. I think if the gag makes it to syndication it might actually last as celebrity boxing may just have been the worst idea ever.

It was a cheap shot though :)

Jonah - If you're not done with the guide yet, a few suugestions: Make Johnny Tightlips the episode bio, and include the following past episode references in "The Stuff You May Have Missed":

The last time a riot occured in Springfield was in 5F01 "The Cartridge Family".
Homer's area code is 636. The 636 area code was last mentioned in BABF20 "A Tale of Two Springfields"
Fat Tony requests "Radar Love" by Golden Earring over the radio. The song was last heard in 3F17 "Bart on the Road".

I loved this episode! It was a hilarious amalgamation of classic humor, jabs at FOX, returning characters (Snake, Jimbo Jones, Captan McCallister, Fat Tony), parodies, and previous episode references - the five things that always make me laugh. Some moments were a bit cheesy (like the looters parading out of the music store), but other than that, I think this was an excellent way to cap off Season 13. 4/5.

After watching this episode a second time, I've decided to move my original grade from a 4/5 to a 5/5. This episode was damn near perfect. Who cares if some of the elements in the plot had been used before? (Heat wave, Springfield mass riot, Homer taking law into own hands, Fat Tony planning to kill Homer, etc). Everything about this episode just rocked.. every character was perfectly in character, none of the annoying running gags were used, Homer was not annoying and didn't use his annoying fist shaking and whisper jokes... by far, the best episode of the season.

I think the pacing for this episode was just right, because of the type of episode it was. The jokes and wit were clever and furious, the direction was swift, and the plot was action-packed and intricate. I have a problem with overly fast pacing and plotting only when it doesn't suit the episode (episodes with no real suspense, action like "The Bart Wants What it Wants").

Atleast I didn't miss a new couch gag.

Good, solid episode, I gave it 4/5, definitely a B/B+. I liked the use of all the characters, even though much of the episode was re-used stuff from other episodes.

What I really liked:

Homer listing all his jobs
Homer caring about doing the right thing; for Lisa and Springshield
Fat "Montegna sells Mercedes" Tony
The Sopranos "intro"
When Homer says that for once, he has a job where he's not lazy or corrupt, and now he's going to be killed for it. Something along those lines...

Good, solid episode, I probably should give it an A but I may change my mind after re-watching it. If it's still as good, then it's passed the rewatching test and will receive the exalted "A."

I clicked on 4/5 but this is a 5/5(9.5/10) episode. In fact, it is the first of the season that I gave above a 9(5/5)(She of Little Faith, but there were many 3/5's and 4/5's). I loved the Sopranos theme as I'm a huge fan. The ending got me; for some reason I was sure it was Flanders because it would have been good irony since Homer shunned him at the meeting inside the church, but I should of known better: a) The show rarely uses ironic twists that big(*exception WSMBII) and b) Flanders couldn't shoot anyone, though if he did, it would have been executed with the same erratic aim. The ep did borrow from many previous ones(Homer the Vigilante being #1), but that didn't necessarily make it a bad thing, in fact, it was quite the contrary. Do you want something done fast or do you want it done right? I rate it best ep of the season and a great season finale, certainly better than Frying Game. All in all, Season 13 was a major step in the right direction. Way to go Al for turning this aging series around as it now heads in the direction of its prime.

I agree. It kind of annoys me how people on the forum are always looking at pre-air framegrabs, and looking at reviews of the episodes and knowing the main details before they watch it. I think it is better to just watch it with no pre-air stuff.

I agree. I felt so important having seen Little Girl in the Big Ten and The Frying Game and providing information for others. But, I never look at actualy framegrabs or reviews before I view the episode. It really takes away from the fun. I'm glad that I didn't see a framegrab of Maggie with a gun or anything or else that whole suprising scene would have been ruined for me.

Half-Decent Proposal was good, but it got a bit weird at the end. Little Girl in the Big Ten is the best of the season, imho, hands down.

Half-Decent Proposal could have been the best episode in years, but the oil rigging towards the end was too far fetched for my liking. I still consider it to be the third best of the season. Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge and Little Girl in the Big Ten are neck and neck for the top spot on my list -- Poppa's the number one as of now, but I like them both so much it's hard to judge. I still think that Weekend at Burnsies is a very underated episode -- it's #4 on my list -- right ahead of I am Furious (Yellow).

Yeah, I need a lot more grabs from good scenes. The grabs Jim posted in the other thread don't have any I want to use. I'm pretty much finished the page, except for the grabs, so if anyone can help me out, here are some scenes I would love grabs from:
- Homer, Lenny, and Carl having just burst into the Legit Business Man's social club, pointing their guns.
- The family sitting on the roof, watching the looting.
- A shot of Fat Tony in the car during the Sopranos parody
- Any shot of the town looting that clearly shows lots of people creating havoc.
- Homer giving a speech at the church
- Homer, Lenny, and Carl holding back the monster while the old lady punches it (from Homer's commercial)

Tom

I thought this episode was brilliant; the plot didn't get too out of hand, some hilarious jokes as well.(particulary the part when Homer gets Ned's things back and the Johnny Tight-Lips sequence.) The ending really surprised me, the writers set that one up well, and altogether a great episode, probably one of my very favourites. 5/5.

HAHAH! Eric, during the riot scene, my friend said the exact same thing! (well, actually he said "The music this season has been incredible!)

About my division in the Guide page, somehow on my printer, it cuts between the 'D' and 'G', so I can't really identify with the problem, heh. But I don't think it's a huge deal anyways. I've got my whole guide printed out in a binder.

And I definately would do it for KOTH as well, but I can't find framegrabs anywhere, or videos on the net so I could make them myself, so I can't.

Yes, the addition of music has been excellent. It really adds to the show and works suprisingly well in humorous scenes. In Weekend at Burnsies, Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water as sung by Homer had me dying laughing. During Homer's "weed trip" Donovan's "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" and Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and Pepperments" both added to the scene. Also, in "I am Furious (Yellow)," Homer's singing of Donovan's "Mellow Yellow was very funny. But, the best use of music this season was definately, The Sopranos theme from this episode!

I think it was a very good episode to end the season:LOL:
And I think it was the best episode in a long time!!

I also thought it would be Ned.

I thought it would be the police force (Wiggum and co.)
After Wiggum said it wasn't him, I thought it would be the people of Springfield (Ned, Dr. Hibber, Moe -- all the people at the meeting Homer held). Not till I saw that the camera was zooming up did I think it would be Maggie.

As I said earlier, it was the best episode of the season. 5/5

Great Episode! The first act was hilarious and the rest was great. My only complaint is some parts seem a little contrived from other episodes. Other than that, great.

for the first 2 acts, the episode was OK, nothing great, pretty derivative. Then the 3rd act completely blew me away. With the church scene, Johnny Tightlips, the Sopranos parody, and the surprise ending, it was A+ material. The episode gets a B overall.

i just saw it finally and it was a great episode. I gave it 4/5 but I think 9/10 is better for it. Johnny Tightlips never gets old. He premiered in the begining of Season 12 and reappeared at the end of 13.

How's your mother?

Im surprised no one mentioned the scene where the air conditioner was put in the school and principal skinner sez "I'm seeing kids I havent seen for a long time"...and then it shows Jughead, Fat Abbot and then Fonz. I was laughing my ass off. And also Groundskeeper Willie's line "We using more energy up than Ricky Martin's Girlfriend! HOYYOO!" LOL...best episode of the season. 9.8/10!

I don't know why I had never seen this episode before this weekend, but it was a riot! I voted 5/5. It's lots of fun, with plenty of great gags. My favorite: SILENT ALARM ACTIVATED.
