The past 8 years aren't all that memorable compared to the 80's and 90's. There are no more Princess Bride's, no more cabbage patch kids, no Michael J. Fox time travelling back in time and getting freaky with his mom. We now have the Myfacewhatever craze on the net, the continued decline of TV and Movies, and the Afghan and Iraqi wars, plus dozens of fads nobody remembers.

you gotta admit, these shows are great time-wasters on boring sunday afternoons

how did they do 70's/80's/90's shows? did they premiere a new year once a week? (i've only seen the reruns) if so, then yeah, pretty dumb that they didn't wait 'til the whole decade was over. it's not like they would have had to wait long.

can't wait for the awkward re-telling of 9/11

I have to agree with you Pizza, the thing is is that we are sick of the stuff that's going to be on the show. TV, I don't but that's up for discussion.

Hunter S. Thompson, did you and the English Languge have a murder suicide pact or are you impersonating a loser from myspace?

The problem is, if it isn't a great movie, its usually a rap dancing flick, spoof movie that is not Airplane, or awkward retelling of Hellen Keller that wins an oscar just because she gets freaky. Boy, I really enjoy my generation so much....

That's true, but they're probably just gonna talk about reality shows rather than actual good television.

My problem with this is; the "I love the" shows are popular because of nostalgia, how can you be nostalgic about a decade that isn't even finished yet.

y'know, i came up with an idea for why they're doing this series before the decade is out: maybe they want to do 2000-2007 and then in early '09 they'll do "i love 2008" and then they'll just make these things an annual thing.

kuumuus

Some of us oldsters were fortunate enough to be introduced to Michael Ian Black via "The State," saving us from having to watch VH1 under any circumstances.

It is surprising who cracks me up on those specials. I always looked forward to that wrestler, who was that, Jericho?

I wish they'd bring back that Super Secret TV Formulas show. I thought it was very interesting.

Same thing with me to a point. The show gave me a kind of basic pop culture blueprint for what I know today. It was definitely a turning point, but now that they're doing a decade that's SO recent and not even finished, that's ridiculous.

i remember watching the first episode and wondering if the point of the group was to be deliberately unfunny, and how hysterical that would have been. at episode's end, when i realized i'd laughed a few times here and there... it just made me depressed.

the state was so much better when it was over with. showalter and a few others had their moments, but please don't tell me you miss the glory years of todd holoubek.

i caught i love 2000. holy depressing

first off, the ambassadors of the current decade: andrew wk, perez hilton, some old blonde with huge tits ive never heard of, and some random cast member from survivor ive never heard of. beyond michael ian black, the commentators are completely not funny and/or i have no idea who they are

out the gate, topics covered: razor scooters, jackass, ascension of reality television, tivo, 2000 election. and to the person who joked 'i wonder if i love the 80s will make the cut' - IT DID

dont watch this

Yeah, I noticed that "I love the '80s" made the cut. I'll say it again, the appeal of these shows is the nostalgia it conjures up, without that it just depends solely on the jokes and, lets be honest, they were never really that funny.
Michael Ian Black was gold as always, everyone else was pretty lame. I do have to admit though, some of the jokes about the XFL were pretty funny.

Jakebert
06-24-2008, 10:28 AM
Yeah, I watched the first half of the 2000 one and thought it was pretty bad. Had no idea that they talked about I Love the 80's, though. Right now the only reason I might tune in is because I'm curious about the topics, but the ones they picked so far have been pretty bad.

Also, at first I thought Hal Sparks' hair was supposed to be a parody of the "Jim Halpert" hair thing that got cool in the 00's, like when they would put fake afro's on people's head's during the 70's one...

Still too fresh to get nostalgic over. Again, thats what makes the 80's ones entertaining..Most younger people hardly even remember it, so it stirs up tons of childhood memories. Same could be said with 90s..But, the year 2000 still feels like yesterday for me.

beyond the obvious explanations for the "i love the new millenium" not working, may i suggest that vh1 is also contributing to the car wreck by choosing (either intentionally or not) an especially bad group of pop culture touchstones?
