nothing too exciting otherwise you'll get restless but still be confined in your little corner seat. i think i fell asleep to some ambient 1: music for airports.
I listened to Takk by Sigur Ros on a flight once, it was epic so I'd go with that.
Other than that, I couldn't really say any specific albums. Just pick as a big a variety as possible so you don't get bored.

I find that albums best for travelling are atmospheric ones that last about an hour or more. the glow pt. 2 and music has the right to children were great for me on a recent coach trip (as were albums by sunn o))) and burzum but uh you're probably not into that).
GY!BE would also be a good band to listen to. Pretty much anything post-rock actually

first time i listened to ac's feels was while looking for stuff on my ipod, on a plane.
if you're looking to fall asleep, choose something ambient. if you're looking to kill time/avoid boredom, listen to a comedy album or a podcast. or a dylan record.
of course, nmh's 'in the aeroplane over the sea' is the humourous response, but i always find that I prefer listening to podcasts or spoken word stuff while travelling long distances.

Recycled Air -- by the Postal Service is a good one for a flight, if you feel like being literal.

If you are flying, I probably won't recommend metal. So I might as well recommend these albums:
basically, any Radiohead album (Pablo Honey, OK Computer, In Rainbows, The Bends, Kid A, etc.)
Same goes with Iron and Wine
James Taylor's: Greatest Hits
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon
The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Anything from Cat Stevens
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged
America: Fuck Yea!

I am starting to sound like a broken record, but anything by Boards of Canada works for me.
Iron and Wine's first record as well.

i don't really prefer a certain style or genre when flying, but i do like to listen to albums that i like every song on so i can just relax and not skip tracks.
Loveless would also be a pretty good one

I don't go anywhere without making a mix disc for the trip. Will do so again for upcoming flights to/from Philly. That plus the last couple tripdiscs should cover me.
Like Box said, got to have every song be good.

the first album is the only one i have actually listened to while in the air, the other ones are just assumptions.
m83 - dead cities, red seas & lost ghosts
the radio dept. - pulling our weight ep
low - long division
this will destroy you - young mountain ep
stars of the lid - and their refinement
toe - the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety
i know it's not cool to plug yourself but i had the idea for this song while in a short flight over lake huron, i wrote it based on that:

On the runway waiting long for take-off clearance: Electrick Frankenstein
:gatorbang: When they tell you to turn off all electronic devices: crank up some Buckethead
When they bring the meal trays around: Best Of British Rockabillies Vol 1&2
..and if you're seated next to a crying infant, turn a negative into a positive by loading up some Diamanda Galas ..The baby will unwittingly be adding matching background howling to the music.
Good Luck!

i just had a 5 1/2 hour flight (plus one hour on the runway) yesterday. lots of radiohead and LCD soundsystem and replacements. i listened to "waitress in the sky" a couple of times to laugh to myself when flight attendants came by.
