Following the recent onslaught of casino films (the oceans movies, 21, etc.) I was wondering peoples opinions...are they becoming too predictable? what are some of your favorites? what are some of the worst in your opinions?

Just like any movie genre, I don't think you can really generalize.

Oceans 11 was great, but the sequels were rather lackluster.

I haven't seen 21 yet, but a bunch of my friends, and critics, said it was very enjoyable.

It probably doesn't count, but Casino Royale was fantastic.

and what's up with people getting usernames with the names of celebrities or someone else's name? lame.

Love em. In fact I love them so much that my first job was as a croupier in Sydney's Star City Casino.

Favorites:

Casino Royale
Oceans 11
Casino
Croupier
Diamonds Are Forever
Vegas Vacation
The Sting
The Godfather Pt 2 (if it counts)

Haven't seen that many. Actual gambling is more fun than watching it. I've seen the documentary that 21 is based off but not the actual movie. Is Rounders any good?

Casino and Oceans 11 were great, I'm not too sure about the others.

3000 miles to graceland was cheesily good with its casino shootout.
Casino was just the scraps left over from what scorses couldn't fit into Goodfellas.
Oceans Eleven was very entertaining and funny, and the sequels were decent.
Godfather Part 2 awesome.
Vegas Vacation was very funny at the time.
The Cooler sucked.
High Roller: Stu Ungar Story was pretty lame.
I don't remember much about Casino Royale (the old one) or if it had much to do with casinos.
The original Oceans Eleven was also very good.

I wouldn't really cout casino royal(007) as a casino movie.
Cincinnati Kid and Rounders had barely anything to do with casinos at all but were awesome.

They make for great entertainment (Casino, Ocean's 11), but the whole glitz and glamour of the thing is lost due to my location. They lose a lot when you can head out to places like these in your own backyard..

I love them. Ocean's 11 and 13 were excellent, as was Diamonds Are Forever, Casino Royale's casino scene was very well done and I've been dying to see 21. And it may not be a movie, but I always like the episodes of CSI that are set in casinos.

When I visited Vegas two years ago I loved going round the casinos and spotting the locations from the movies. Just like every other tourist I guess. :)

Oh, and for those of you talking about the Ocean's trilogy - Ocean's Twelve is NOT a casino film. It's as much a casino movie as The Italian Job is.
