View Full Version : Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
so do we have many coldplay fans here? the new album is out next month and two tracks have been released so far - the first single "Violet Hills" and kinda-title track "Viva la Vida"
Both awesome songs imo, but VLV just edges out VH for me.
According to Wiki, the album is out 12 June in the UK, 14th in Aus/NZ and 17th in US and Canada.
Discuss.
Both of the new songs are really good. I really like them. In my opinion, "Viva La Vida" is the better of the two though.
Can't wait for the rest.
i like them, though martin's voice makes every song sound the same.
My favourite song of theirs is still Yellow

Only Coldplay song I like a lot is Square One, although Yellow, Shiver, and Fix You are both pretty OK I guess.
Square One is great, though.

Violet Hill is pretty good. I'm gonna get the new album next month, I already have the other three. Not a huge fan but their albums are pretty solid affairs and worth buying. Fave album is A Rush Of Blood To The Head, fave song is Daylight...

That and Shiver, yeah. Parachutes was great.
Rush of Blood was good, and X&Y was pretty damn terrible. But Brian Eno is involved with this new one, so I'll check it out. Violet Hill is OK, and I enjoy the title track.
Official Video for Violet Hill is out

Very strange concept. If you asked me to describe it now I couldn't even having just watched it. What the hell was going on?...
Mr Jivefunk, could you kindly explain the video to me?

lol, i dont really listen to them
their kinda new age rock...right>?
I'm rather fond of Coldplay. Violet Hill is pretty impressive. I'm really enjoying the edgier, heavier sound--it is a bit of a departure from what I'm used to by them, but I can still recognize it as Coldplay. So I'm really looking forward to Viva la Vida. :)

Anyone else heard it yet? Some great songs on this one.
My top 5 at the moment, would probably be:
Viva La Vida
Violet Hill
Lost!
Strawberry Swing
Death And All His Friends
That list will probably change though. 'Cemeteries of London' and '42' are also good.

lately i've been trying to not be so picky with my music. i've been listening to a lot of shit that i never thought i would even give a chance... top 40 stuff on pop radio. and i've been enjoying much of it. it feels good to not be such a music asshole and try to open up to the mainstream a little more.
that having been said, holy shiiiit this album is boring.

I heard that it has leaked online, but its out here on Saturday so i'll just wait til then and pick up the cd. (remember those?)

i don't even really dislike coldplay. i thought that even as recently as x&y they were still making the occasional great track (fix you) with a lot of filler. but god this album is just total snoozeville
ah ok fair enough.
coldplay are probably one of my favourite bands. That said, they do have some very boring tracks.
Fix You is fucking awesome though.
I do agree that the majority of the songs on this album sound the same, but after you listen to them a couple of times, they become better.
Albums order:
A Rush Of Blood To The Head > Parachutes > Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends > X & Y
For me its Rush of Blood > X&Y > Parachutes
Will update once i give VLVODAAHF a good listen, but to explain, X&Y beats parachutes due to the strength of Fix You and a couple of other tracks like speed of sound.
Yeah, Fix You, Talk and Speed of Sound were good on 'X&Y', but they just can't beat Don't Panic, Shiver, Yellow and Trouble on 'Parachutes'.

parachutes is a great album. rush of blood is a good album. x&y is a very, very average, forgettable album. haven't heard the new one yet, but if it follows the pattern that seems to be emerging i won't like it very much.
Parachutes > A Rush Of Blood > Anal leakage > X&Y
I really don't like Violet Hill or Viva La Vida so suffice to say, my expectations for this album are extremely low.
pet peeve: 99% of people who seem to think "Don't Panic" is called "Beautiful World"
Yeah, that is annoying.
One of my friends thought that Fix You was called 'I Will Try'
People think that? How odd. Good song. Though it reminds me of Channel 10 ever since they used it in some promos a few years back. Gawd I saw those promos so many god damn times
I too, remember those promos. With the cast of everybody loves raymond driving along in that cartoon car.
sure beat the hell out of the junior senior promos they have this year

on topic, indifferent to coldplay. I found parachutes in my cupboard the other day and it was half good, half poor filler. hated x&y, other than fix you

that's probably the way it's labelled on limewire though:
Cold Play - We_LiVe_In_A_bEaUtIfUL_wOrlD.MP3
You don't like Speed of Sound or Talk?
Speed of Sound was ok but nothing special. I agree with whoever said Fix You was the only good song on X&Y

Only good thing about SC Ten not carrying the Ten HD channel at the moment. Pissed though since they've dumped new eps of Monk on there.

Cold Play - We_LiVe_In_A_bEaUtIfUL_wOrlD.MP3
lol, thats exactly right. anytime i look up coldplay in limewire, thats one of the more prominent results.
Wel, that and "coldplay girl has shaking orgasm during sex"
Ha, I saw that when I searched them yesterday. But I use Frostwire.
I haven't used Limewire/Frostfire/Arcadefire in forever. Torrents for the motherfunking win
limewire suits my music download needs quite well

I only ever use limewire if i want a single track. which isn't very often
Limewire has way too much spyware and dodgy corrupted songs and crappy bitrates and stuff. Torrents are very reliable for me, especially if it's from a private site.
see im more of a single tracks man. i dont tend to get an album unless
a) im a fan of the artist
b) i've heard 3-4 good songs from it.
but back to the subject - its out in Aus/NZ on Saturday. I'll check out JB Hifi tomorrow or friday, they often have stuff out a few days before they should
Awesome. Give it a few listens before you decide what you rank it.
will do. it will be on high rotation all weekend

"Fix You" and "great" are as far apart as Kanye West is from humility.
Or current Simpsons episodes and subtlety.

Parachutes is overrated in my opinion, it has some great songs but is also a depressing and rather boring at times listen. It has the "this is a debut" feel...
A Rush Of Blood To the Head is the best, they came such a long was in those two years. Fantastic album.
X&Y is not quite as good and is overproduced which puts me off a bit. I do however find it to be a solid listen all the way through with a lot of enjoyable songs.
I will be buying the new album tomorrow as it comes out here then. So far it is sounding rather good and I've heard about half the album, Saving the rest for tomorrow...

7. Strawberry Swing
8. 42
