Of course I'd rather not have the laugh track on the tv series, but whatcha gonna do.

In any case, the movie is so seemingly frantic and without structure that it congeals into a great piece of entertainment. And the tv series taught me it's ok to be a grown up and have to deal with grown up shit, but it's not the end of the world. Plus, the antiquity of the setting I find soothing.

Of course, I'm batshit insane and will say most anything for a rise. But MASH seems to calm me. Helps me focus.

Eh.

When that them music comes on in this house....Its like a scramble for the remote. I hate it.
Ive watched parts here and there. Im sure its a decent show..but way too boring and too much drama/not funny for the most part.

The film is excellent. Its one of the few movies I can quote with my parents. Never did really watch the show, but I have nothing against it.

Well, maybe you should try first two seasons of the series. They're by far the funniest and basically the reason why I consider myself a fan of MASH.
After that, some of the original cast left and series were taken to the dramedy territory usually with mixed results.
Last three seasons were great at that though.

I'll list some of my favourite season 1/2 episodes here, which I'd recommend to someone who things that the show's boring and unfunny :) :
To Market To Market, Yankee Doodle Doctor, Tuttle, The Ringbanger, Dear Dad Again, 5 O'Clock Charlie, The Trial Of Henry Blake, Deal Me Out, Crisis, A Smattering Of Intelligence.

I think that seasons 9-11 were really succesful at combining comedy and drama, plots were usually poignant and cast was well consolidated by that time. Some good examples:
The Best Of Enemies, Death Takes A Holiday, No Sweat, Depressing News, 'Twas The Day After Christmas, Follies Of The Living - Concerns Of The Dead, The Birthday Girls, Where There's a Will There's a War, The Joker Is Wild, Bombshells

Although I wouldn't be that harsh, your quoted characterization can be more or less applied on seasons 3-8 imho.

I have to admit though, that now when I was going through the list of episodes to give the above examples,I've found that there is a lot of weak ones even in s9-11. The thing is that I videotaped only those which I like and have forgotten about the rest.
Season 1 is almost without clunker, that's for sure.

Btw, in Czech Republic, TV broadcasts MASH in dual - original with the laughing track and dubbed version without. The laughing track is really unnecesary in this series.

I don't care what anyone says. I love MASH.

Since when did it become so controversial to like MASH?

one of my favorite shows in the shows I have not seen in over ten years category

Just curious mayor, but what are some others?

I don't think I can imagine not watching a show I enjoy for over ten years...though I suppose if one goes out of syndication it would just stand to reason.

I haven't seen any episodes in more than a year, but I've watched it regularly before and I've always found it a funny and interesting show, with great actors. And the theme song is very good imo, it's definitely one of the better theme songs from all TV shows I know of (although it's not nearly as good as, say, the theme song from "The Prisoner").

I've seen maybe 10 or 15 episodes of this show and I still don't find it nearly as interesting or funny as everyone else seems to. It's not horrible, but it just feels really bland.

All of my friends think I'm nuts.

They basically have the same sentiment as Ice Cube.. or Ol' Dirty Bastard.. or Play up there, first poster.

I've seen a handful of episodes and never really got into it, I can't really explain why, I liked the episodes I've seen and all the characters and actors, I just never knew where to begin with the series and it also seems to be on different tmes on different stations

I love the music in the movie and the series before it went all dramatic and crap. I see it from time to time, but I'd rather watch Sanford and Son.

MASH is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. And I still think Mike Farrell should have NEVER grown that mustache.

The laugh track has never bothered me, though it's handy that the DVDs present the option of switching it off.

I might be in the minority here (and amongst MASH fans in general) but I actually prefer the replacement characters over the originals, though it's fairly even when it comes to Burns and Winchester. I also like the later episodes (particularly Season 9's "A war for all seasons") despite the change in tone. After all, it's not like the show was ever pro-war or merely just "hi-jinks at the front", to borrow a phrase from Alan Alda.

Cried during the farewell episode. It was a very intimate show.
