He is an outstanding actor. He always takes interesting rolls. I think men enjoy his bad-assness an much as women enjoy his smokin' hotness. He (i think) is an all around crowd pleaser.

My favorite film of his is Ed Wood. My favorite ex-girl friend is Winona Ryder.

What do you like about him? What is not to like about him?

Well, he did not graduate high school and he is a felon. Somehow the felon thing only makes him hotter.

oh and for my own selfish pleasure feel free to post as many pictures of him as you can find! The nakeder the better :D

I dig him. He is a good actor. I wonder what would have become of Tim Burton's visions without him.

He was a perfect Willy Wonka, right out of the world of Roald Dahl. I love Gene Wilder, but Depp topped him.

Lilly you'll be happy to hear that by popular demand, Ed Wood has returned for a final masterpiece starring Depp - 'The Hot, Even Nakeder Felon', I hear it's a western comedy based on King Lear.

great actor when he wants to be

i also appreciate the fact that he's one of the least "hollywood" mainstream actors around

I liked the Pirates movies. I guess without him as Jack Sparrow the movies wouldn't have been such success.
I also really liked him in Sleepy Hollow and From Hell.

WIthout him, the pirates movies would be Series of Unfortunate Events successful.

Yeah. eAnyway, I'm getting pretty sick of him. I liked him when he was more obscure, when Edward Scissorhands was more synonmous than his own name.

And while he did the best he could at WIlly Wonka, the shitty story from Burton couldn't be helped. Burton hasn't been gpood in about a dozen years. Die.

It's about a guy who has scissors for hands and he makes B movies

I've always liked Depp, I like how he choses different roles, even if I don't like all the movies he's in, at least he hasn't gotten stagnant or repetitive like so many actors of his generation

I've really enjoyed many of his movies, yet he's never stood out to me as some amazing actor. He tends to have the same personality for many of his characters. He's enjoyable though. Still need to see Ed Wood.

watch fear and loathing in las vegas and then ed wood and tell me he doesn't have tremendous range as an actor. it's not showcased in all of his movies but the ability is undoubtedly there.

And while he did the best he could at Willy Wonka, the shitty story from Burton couldn't be helped. Burton hasn't been good in about a dozen years. Die.

if you didn't like the story your beef might be with Roald Dahl more than anyone else but either way Burton didn't write the screenplay.

I haven't seen Ed Wood, but after reading this thread, I may have to.

Edward Scissorhands was great, and will always be one of my favorites. Finding Neverland was good, enjoyed Wonka, and found all the Pirates movies to be enjoyable. Sleeply Hollow kicked a lot of ass as well.

and how the hell has no one mentioned Blow yet?

sick ass flick.

He really won me over with "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Not only did he pretty much nail his performance as Hunter S. Thompson, but he "uglied" himself up for the role properly and believably. Both Depp and Del Toro nailed their performances in that movie.

I recently bought the P album. It had Johnny Depp on guitar and Gibby Haynes on vocals. Awesome. :D

"Ed Wood" is one of my favourite movies. I love its affection for movies in general (but especially cheesy old sci-fi ones), and Depp's performance as a guy deliriously happy to be making movies and completely oblivious to how bad he is at it is one of the most wonderfully endearing performances of all time. I love his performances in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?", "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas", and "Finding Neverland" (really moving) too. He was damn entertaining in "Cry-Baby" as well...one of the few musicals I really dug. I was disappointed by his performance as Willy Wonka, though. It was just too cartoony and irritating...I thought it was really the weakest part of the movie, because I really enjoyed the special effects, the songs, and the performances of the other actors. On the other hand, his performance was the best thing in both "Edward Scissorhands" and the first Pirates movie (haven't seen the others) and really elevated them above what they would have been without him.

Ed Wood is one of my top 10 movies. I fully credit it for my love of old B grade movies, particularly Lugosi and Karloff movies.

Ive never met a Depp movie I didnt like. I was even able to be entertained by the Pirates sequels thanks to Jack Sparrow (imo, the first really iconic adventure character since Indiana Jones).

He has been voted the number 1 autograph giver three years in a row buy some autograph zine. I think that says a lot about his general appreciation of his fans. And, it also greatly lowers the value of his autograph.

Post script...I love the random photos! More please more more!

I've never really been a huge fan of him, growing up around people who hate him, but I think he's a good actor. The only movie where he gives a performance that I'd say stands out a few metres from everything he's ever done, which also happens to be one of my favorite movies ever, is Ed Wood. I like how he's in most of Tim Burton's films, because he's given good performances, especially in Sweeney Todd, too.

Great thing about Johnny (may I call you, John?) is,.. lots of modern celebrities are described by some media analyst as "this generations..." Brando? nope. Chaplin? nope. Bogart? etc etc.. You cant say anything because theres none to compare him to.

I watched and loved:

I watched and liked:
Platoon, Edward Scissorhands, Chocolat, Ed Wood, Blow, Dead Man's Chest (somehow slept away near the end), Secret Window

I watched and somehow ...uhm...
Don Juan, Once upon a time in Mexico, 21 Jump Street (I dont really can recall anything of that)
