Just bringing this back to your attention:
Possible cuts from Home Away From Homer...
(Bart and Milhouse are watching "Sexy Slumber Party" on their computer. The brown-haired girl is on the blonde-haired girl's lap, as blonde holds a framed photo of Rodd [or is it Todd?]. Blonde spanks Brown with the photo.)
Brown : Spank me again with little boy's picture.
Homer : I want to set our relationship off on the right foot; so if you need anything, anything at all, just--
Coach : Hmmm... (picks up Flander's doormat that reads "Bless Our Guest") the jack-off left this here. (Coach throws it away and puts his own doormat down "Ring Doorbell For Free Ass Kicking)
Homer: Uh...

Oh... what about this short dialogue during the pillow fight:
Girl # 1: Do you think anyone's watching?
Girl # 2: I hope so. Or they won't see us explore our sexes without restraints. (I think this is what she said, her accent made it hard to transcribe)
And then, later on, did it show them dabbing each other with wet paintbrushes?
I should've really watched this myself. Stupid no-good social life.
JonHillier
07-24-2005, 01:28 PM
Yeah the paintbrush stuff went on. I'm not sure whether I liked the episode or not - there were one or two good jokes etc... but the story seemed thin. Not the worst episode I've ever seen, but still hit and miss.

Yeah, i was dissapointed - only good moments were Neds 'tache gag, the town of Humbleton, and Homers new neighbour. The rest was meh at best.
But it does look like they cut some of the funnier moments out.
Rowdy Roddy Peeper

Pretty meh indeed, With such a decent enough main plot (Flanders move after Homer causes a massive humiliation) i thought this could be a 'Hurricane Neddy' 2, but it didn't work amazingly. I mean Humbleton town, what the hell was that??

Tonights showing of Oh, Brother Where Art Thou on Channel 4 ommited a scene that had previously gone intact. They removed Bart chanting the word "bastard", after he thwarted his parents by using it in it's correct context. Unfortunately, he can't stump Channel 4. Not only that, but a few minutes later in the episode, they also removed Homer calling his brother a bastard. Both these scenes were intact in the premiere a few months ago, and possibly the rerun a couple of weeks ago.
no, first run only.

It wasn't as good as it could have been, but not a bad episode - there were no wacky scenes and the plot remained focused. Then again, it wasn't that funny. B

Firstly, I'd like to announce that I'm back - I was at my grandparent's near Durham from Friday to today (Monday).
Secondly, I'd like to say that since they don't have Sky (only Freeview), I missed Home Away From Homer - never mind, eh? In S15 I missed apparantely the 2 best episodes; The President Wore Pearls and My Mother the Carjacker, but I'm not losing sleep over that.
Thirdly, whoever said about Will & Grace being shit is expressing their opinion (fair enough) but being quite small-minded about other people's likes & dislikes - I for one think Will & Grace is a great show (though I don't watch it every week).
Finally, I'd like to apologise to anyone who wasted time reading this message when they didn't really care.

Yeah I saw the episode tonight - although they did leave in the first 'bastard' from the dialogue. In fact that's the first time I've noticed the word used in this episode, which i havn't seen on TV since taping it off the BBC quite a few years ago. There's no mention of the word at all in the copy I have.
The BBC always removed that scene, I'd never seen it until I got the DVD. I was a bit surprised that it was in the original airing on C4, which I happened to see at the time, though I don't think anything was being censored when they first bought the rights.

Wezzo's updated again - there will be NO new episodes in September on Sky! This is surprising, considering S17 will have started by then - I thought they would air the last of S16 in September/October. I hope they're not planning another marathon of episodes.
Also, 5F01 The Cartridge Family and 4F22 The City Of New York vs. Homer Simpson are both scheduled to air on Sky on 26th September! Great news, as I haven't seen the latter one before - however, they have both been scheduled, then cancelled before, so this isn't definite.

And, also, is anyone else surprised that neither Sky or C4 have started cutting explosions? Really good news about The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson. Somehow I'm not very convinced. Sky have done this before only to backtrack. Anyway if they do air I expect a fair bit will be cut. And Leon K I wouldn't get your hopes up about The Cartridge Family. Like the New York episode they backed out last time they had it aired. Infact wasn't it the same time last year they aired it before backing out?

Butters the above was cut from the Sky showing as well, I don't know if you already knew that, I just thought I'd mention it since it isn't listed on your site. they possibly might have obtained the rights to show it...before c4 show it...in october...
Butters
07-30-2005, 09:19 AM
Actually, two possible solutions:
1) The initial delay of C4 showing Season 6 after their first showing of season 5 was because they placed a miscounted order of episodes. Maybe, they still went through with the order, even if one episode is still missing.
2) Or, C4 have decided to get Who Shot Mr. Burns (Part 1) along with Season 7, as to not single the two parter across two stations. It's possible.
Nameless
07-30-2005, 11:29 AM
The NYC episode will also be airing august 7 (a week from now) at 6pm, btw. Looks like this isn't just a one-off...
another theory for sky airing WSMB I is that following it tonight is WSMB II; could it be they've been allowed to air them together and gotten special rights from c4, like with the 350th episode countdown?

P.S. if this episode was banned because it featured the Twin Towers, why aren't all pre-season 8 episodes of Friends banned? They're set in New York (filmed in LA). I love Friends though so I'd hate them to be banned.

07-31-2005, 08:08 AM
Because, Friends didn't have an episode where Ross lent Joey his car, and the next morning found out that it had parked it directly inbetween the towers. In Friends, The Twin Towers could only be seen in transitional shots. Same applies to Married... With Children, which featured the towers in it's opening sequence (iirc).

OH, FUCK, GUYS!
The pan of Old New York was edited to fit our screens and miss out one of the twin towers, I think.
Maybe it was just my shitty reception, but the following line was muted (in bold):
Marge: Great! We're all going to New York!
Homer: Lousy Bart with his money. All right New York! I'm coming back! But you're not getting this! [Homer grabs his wallet and tosses it into the fireplace]
Lisa: Dad, our baby pictures were in there.
Homer: Don't you start!
And, they've removed some shots of the towers. The first was when Homer found his card, in which they just zoomed into Homer's parked car.
And, after the "we don't wanna go to canada" scene, they cut a shot. You can tell because the establishing music was dodgy.
Homer attempts to take the clamp off by hand, and then by teeth when he has no success...
Guy in Tower: Hey when you're done with that, I've got something up here you can bite off!
Guy in Tower 2: Hey why don't you be polite you stinking puss bag?! [to Homer] Pal, you gotta call the number on the boot. Sorry about that guy. They stick all the jerks in Tower one.
Man in Tower: That's it! I'm coming over there.
[they yell at each other until a third guy - in a higher floor in tower 1 - has a voice which is louder than both]
Other Guy: SHUT UP THE BOTH OF YA'S!!!
Strangely, enough, they left a shot of the towers in when we saw the statue of liberty.
Again this might be my reception, but Homer calling the New Yorker who didn't give him money a "cheapskate" was muted.
But, they haven't edited out the guy pointing to the tower telling Homer to use the bathroom in there.
They didn't cut Homer running from tower to tower...
But, they did edit out Homer's long "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" from the establishing shot of the tower.
And the scene where Homer finds his parking ticket seems as if it's been cut.
Also, it looks as if they've removed the two spiked-toppy bits from both the towers. I don't know if they're there in a regular copy of the episode though.
Well, that sure was lame of sky, wasn't it?
George Cauldron
08-07-2005, 10:33 AM
I got the 'lousy cheapskate' part, but the conversation between the guys in the towers, and the orgasmic relieving was noticeably cut. Just be glad they actually aired the episode.
Leon Kompowsky
08-07-2005, 10:39 AM
the cheapskate bit was in there and I dont think there was any difference in the wallet burning bit. I noticed the guys arguing between the towers was missing which is one of the best bits in the episode but I half expected them to cut that anyway.
Interesting to know what the people who hadnt seen it thought of it on their first viewing. Its still pretty overrated to me B/B+

First time I've seen it, and for the earliest episode in s9, I can't believe how much of a jerk Homer was. Some funny moments, like Homer desperate for something to eat, the D'oh! echoing around, Bart licking the pole, and the Betty Ford Center. The wraparound stuff was also cool at the beginning. It is marred by Homer's pure jerkassness though, and long dull moments in NY. Overrated, C+

One, if not Season 9's best imo. I really couldn't believe how funny Homer was and i was really intrigued with the adventure, as i remembered it being so funny and my memory was right.
Maybe it was slightly wacky, but i loved every minute of Homer's adventure, sure the rest of the family could of had a more interesting time (apart from the Betty Ford clinic - that was great), but i simply loved it.

I had downloaded it about two years ago, but it was the first time I'd seen the non-syndicated version, so things like Lisa talking to the bum on the subway and Homer saying "Lousy Bart and his money" were new to me.
: Also, the bit with the Very Tall Man was new to me. In the opening shot on the bus, I said 'Look, there's the VTM!' at the beginning, not realising that he was involved in a joke.
I'd give it a B+, as it's a funny episode (Homer being incredibly angry for no reason was brilliant), but it's not one of my favourites.
Roll on Sept 26th and the Cartridge Family.

Sources have different dates:
www.amazon.co.uk = Monday 5 September
www.play.com = Monday 17 October
www.cd-wow.com = Monday 17 October
www.tesco.com = Monday 17 October
www.woolworths.co.uk = Monday 17 October
www.whsmith.co.uk = Monday 17 October

Just a quick note - tomorrow marks the final of Big Brother (I'm sure I'll get flamed for admitting I watch it and I want Anthony or Kinga to win), meaning next Friday, the 19th, is Big Brother-free, and Simpsons will be on at 9. According to What's On TV, they will be showing Days Of Wine And D'oh'ses, meaning they are picking up where they left off.

Kinga is one of the worst excuses for a human being I think I ever saw, but on a more related note here's the full lineup for fridays from C4's site (Apologies if this has been posted before but you might like to see the full lineup):
7.35 Friends
8.00 NEW Scrubs
8.30 NEW Will and Grace
9.00 (NEW - Season 11) The Simpsons
9.30 NEW Meet the Magoons
10.00 Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere
10.30 NEW Balls of Steel
11.20 NEW Bromwell High
12.20 Desperate Housewives
New episodes of Scrubs and Will & Grace normally pull in the ratings, so this should mean good ratings for OFF. However, "Meet the Magoons" doesn't look so great and I don't think it will do that well.

Kinga, Kinga, Kinga. Oh the shame.
Anyway to keep this vaguely on topic, last I heard the show wasn't performing very well in the 9 o'clock slot on C4, maybe it validates the BBC's decision to put it at 6 for all those years.
And OT again, The Pitts is on at 2.25 this morning. Since I've only seen 5 minutes of an episode before, and I wasn't really sure it was Scully's show, I plan on recording it and watching the whole messy affair, and seeing how many similarities I can draw between it and his reign of terror on OFF.

Oddly a few days ago I saw the Guy that played the dad in The Pitts a really dark and slow film called "Happiness" in which he plays a Dad who's a paedophile. It also featured Jon Lovitz in the opening few minutes.
the thing that struck me about the pitts is that a lot of them were really typical of jokes in the scully in the era but made 10 times worse by the excurciating laugh track. The way my sleep patterns been going latley If I wanted to, I'd probably stay up to watch it.

Well I'm sorry but what are else are you supposed to watch during the summer.

FUCK ME! Terrible acting and timing, plot devices and jokes that would have made me cringe on The Simpsons but seem absolutely ridiculous on a live action show (man with 2 heads, pipe through the head, man with lobster claws), a huge number of crappy sitcom lines, crude sex jokes, stealing from The Simpsons' own history. That little boy is intensely irritating, the dad can't act for shit. This makes Kill The Alligator And Run look like Homer the Heretic.
Good to see it's a messed up family affair what with Julie Thacker and Brian Scully also contributing to the horror of it all. It's very clearly a Scully affair, trying so hard to combine realism and surrealism and failing miserably. I have no desire to ever see another episode ever, ever again. The other writers on OFF must have been battling hard to keep the show at the level it was considering the absolute level of crapness achieved here.
And did I just see Seth Macfarlen's name in the credits? God what an embarrassment for all involved. Can you tell I really hated it?

From tomorrow it's possible that a few of Channel 4's showings will be pre-empted by live test cricket. Although play is scheduled to finish by 6, if there is good light and it's not the final day, they can play on for a while in case of delays later in the match, I can recall Big Brother's Little Brother being postponed because of this at least once last summer.
Channel 4 have the rights to the first test vs Bangladesh and then all 5 against Australia: so that's this weekend and then 5 more weekends between mid-July and mid-September, it should affect Thursdays and Fridays only.
Nope, unless there's some extended coverage, we should be fine.
I don't know why you say "Nope". It's worth people being aware of possible pre-emptions which is why I posted it, I said it wasn't certain to happen. Unless you consider you consider yourself to be a particular expert on umpiring cricket and the lengths of daylight at particular times of the summer, your appearing-to-be-contradictory-but-actually-rephrasing-what-I-said post was totally pointless.
Despite Nameless's insightful post above, tonight's episode will be delayed by the cricket, which won't finish until 6.20 because of rain earlier in the day. It might end up being on at about 8, after the news, though C4's schedule is crowded tonight with all the Big Brother coverage.

What's not great is C4's desicion to show a double-bill of that crappy show Hollyoaks instead of OFF today. Why the hell couldn't they follow the shedules like they're supposed to? It's bad enough with running cricket, which is less entertaining than watching wet paint, instead of OFF. :(

C4 screws up every good show they ever get. The sopranos is never properly advertised and has been shoved around the schedules every different season. compare the hype for 'desperate housewives' or 'lost' to the sopranos and curb your enthusiasm. Now I like all these shows but the superior ones (not just my opinion) get treated like dirt. Lets not even mention big brother which eats up most of the summer schedules on two channels every year.
Have to disagree on the cricket though, I'm not a huge fan but the ashes have been superb so far

The Ashes is only on once every two (or is it three?) years, so Channel 4 will be giving it priority over shows that are repeated every weekday throughout the year, such as The Simpsons. The Ashes 4th Test is from 25-29 August and the 5th and final test at the start of September, so normal scheduling should return in September.
What I don't agree with is Channel 4 replacing rating-grabbing shows such as Hollyoaks and The Simpsons with cricket, when they could just as easily re-arrange those 2 shows to later times, while cricket is on, and chuck out those horrid makeover shows like How Clean Is Your House? and 10 Years Younger.

The cricket was never going to be a definite postponement, it only interefered this time because of rain, and it may not do again. I'm 100% in favour of showing the cricket, my enthusiasm for seeing season 3 on TV could hardly be lower when it's already been on twice in the last 8 months and I have it on DVD: I would have liked to have seen 6 ahead of the DVD being released, it'll probably be on just as it's released now.
H Thompson
08-17-2005, 09:55 AM
Yeah It's probably what they'll do and I really can't understand it as it's harmful to DVD sales and the channels own viewing figures. Some people won't watch because they have the DVD and some people won't buy the DVD because they can watch it on T.V, how can they not realise they both lose.
But there's no need to worry about the Simpsons treatment. As long as in a few months time they start showing the season 13 episodes and onwards before 12:00am then I'll be happy.

Believe it or not it's been 4 years since the Aussies were last here, although C4 have shown England's summer Test Series for the last 7 years. On Monday the cricket received it's highest ever viewing figures of 7.7 million - not a bad Channel 4 audience.
I don't think it's been too bad this year for disrupting the evening tv schedule, play starts half an hour earlier nowadays and apart from bad weather or a match winning situation, play has to finish at 6:00 pm. Previously, play continued until the days allocated overs had been bowled out, or for bad light - whichever came first. This used to result in regular finishes after 7:00 pm. I like cricket, so I'm not too bothered about missing the Simpsons which I already have on tape or can watch on Sky, but I must admit it's great to see the cricket presenters hurrying up at the end of the days play to get off air in time for OFF ! I also agree, that because Hollyoaks is popular and a continuing series, it should get priority over OFF, but maybe OFF should have priority over some of the other crap they show.
Anyway, for people who don't like cricket they'll be glad to know this is the last year for live cricket on 4, where it goes over to Sky Sports from 2006 to 2009. The 5th and final test is scheduled for 8th to 12th September.

Yeah, C4 will probably concentrate on other comedy for the moment, instead of showing double simpsons - IMO it's pretty lazy programming for a terrestrial channel on Friday night Prime Time

And what alternatives do you suggest? Meet The Magoons? 18 Stone of Idiot? Or (heaven forbid) Big Brother 7? Or maybe another crap show that doesn't even have 1% of the comedy of even the worst episodes of the Simpsons.
It may be lazy, but it's the only good thing they HAVE on Friday primetime, now that 8 Out Of 10 Cats is finished.

OK, answers to a few questions;
- C4 will start advertising Simpsons again when S13 starts.
- Offensive episodes like the NYC one will be edited by C4 before they are shown.
- C4 will NOT start repeating the new S13 episodes Sundays at 6pm, that was just for S12.
- It has not been confirmed that C4 will be screening S13&6 before the end of the year, but it's very likely.
- They can't confirm wether there will be any more Friday night double-bills, it's about 50-50
- "Everybody Loves Raymond" season 9 will begin tomorrow, 8am.
- They replaced "King of Queens" on mornings with "Will and Grace" as they came to the end of the series of "KoQ".

From MediaGuardian (http://media.guardian.co.uk), some news about OFF's ratings on C4:
Thursday:
The Simpsons proved disappointing for Channel 4 at 6pm, pulling in just 1.5 million viewers.
The expensive import was 300,000 behind Home and Away on Five and just 200,000 ahead of Flog It! On BBC2.
And friday:
Tom Cruise's televisual nemesis, Balls of Steel, finally hit screens on Friday night with solid, if unspectacular, viewing figures of 1.4 million.
The Channel 4 hidden camera show hit the headlines when the Hollywood actor reacted with predictable anger to being soaked with a water pistol at a movie premiere.
Despite its tough midsummer debut slot it still managed to make a splash with 1.4 million viewers.
Presumably Cruise wasn't among the audience for the new six-part prank series - which was one of the fillings in C4's new Friday night comedy club sandwich.
Channel 4 kicked off with a repeat of The Simpsons at 9pm. That drew 1.6 million but was soundly beaten by all the other terrestrial channels, including BBC2's surprise summer hit, Coast.
The joint BBC and Open University exploration of Britain's coastline drew an impressive 4 million, according to unofficial overnights.
Channel 4 followed up The Simpsons with a new sitcom, Meet the Magoons. The comedy set in a Glasgow curry house was up against the same tough competition, including Five's CSI: the Best Ever.
Meet the Magoons began with 1.4 million, against CSI's 1.7 million.
At 10pm, Channel 4 repeated Peter Kay's spin-off from Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere. It pulled an audience of 1.6 million, beaten by all the other terrestrials, including Five's horror film Pet Sematary.
The comedy extravaganza rounded off at 11.20pm with a new series of animated comedy, Bromwell High - watched by 500,000 viewers.
Overall, understandably, Channel 4's evening was down on last Friday's ratings, which were bolstered by the final of Big Brother.
But, encouragingly for the channel, figures are up slightly year-on-year.
Between 9 and 11pm on the equivalent Friday in 2004, the channel averaged around 1.4 million. Last Friday it was 1.5 million.

08-23-2005, 09:14 AM
I'm surprised that in the 6pm slot it's getting nearly half of what it did on the BBC, who also repeated them ad nauseum. Although ratings are always down in Summer. It hasn't performed well in the 9pm slot at all though, before it was taken off for Big Brother it was still only getting around the 1.5 million mark. I find it rather odd.
Also Sky scheduling are idiots, I'm fed-up with waiting for new episodes, I've just decided to download them instead, at least that way I get them uncut as well (the Wanker scene in The Father,The Son, And The Holy Guest Star is bound to be edited out)
simplysimpsons
08-23-2005, 09:15 AM
Also, technically, 1.6 million is not too bad at all especially for C4. And yeah, S13 will be a huge boost especially if C4 choose to publicise it well. The thing I was surprised at was the 6pm ratings - last time I checked, these were practically 3 million!
(EDIT: Yeah, agreed with Veryjammy too - maybe it is just because it's summer, but OFF still got a lot more on BBC2. Maybe everyone's fed up with the Pizza Hut ads!)
H Thompson
08-23-2005, 09:24 AM
I rember reading that the 6pm repeats were getting better ratings then the 9pm new episodes. Probably a combination of summer and overkill, they made a huge mistake not showing Season 6 after the last airing of season 5.
Even BBC2 never repeated the same 4 series 4 times in a row.
Nameless
08-23-2005, 09:37 AM
yeah, they wanted to air it in time for the dvd, but then the dvd got held back and it was too late by then.

Scrubs, Will & Grace, Peep Show, Distraction, Green Wing, Black Books, Nathan Barley and Darren Brown to name only a few. I'd rather see new programming rather than cheap double repeats of OFF (no matter how much I love them) in a prime friday night slot.
You may not feel they have anything good on a Friday night, but shoving a load of Simpsons repeats in isn't going to solve anything. They need to try stuff out, and if you don't like it then watch your dvds, or check out one of the 4 other terrestrial channels or the hundreds on sky! :)

Here's my review, for people that don't seem to go in The Voting Booth (ScottV, Rowdy etc). Sorry if it's a bit long.
I saw this for the first time.
Starting with the first act. A kinda fun start but at the same time whacky and odd. The Flanders and his wife thing was nasty of Homer and not needed. Up to the bed scene (bar that was good). I thought the whole Mag scene worked well as we know Homer loves little mags and once he gets into them he can't stop ( Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington ). But the scene with Homer thinking he was going to die at 42 was a bit off. Homer thinking that was kinda believable, but Marge believing it was just stupid. Then it just got silly. The whole mental hospital and Homer thing was just way OTT. But overall it was a bumpy but kinda enjoyable first act and certainly not boring. The 2nd act where they arrive in Floridia is where it goes down hill a bit. Homer pushing over his car??. Then well what happens after that, the plot goes all over the place. Aligators waving to humans, Homer being a jerk etc. Oh and one of the worst scenes being Homer getting locked up in bed. Though despite this there were some good jokes thrown in. The third act is a bit more fun. The getting away thing was all very stupid, but there were a lot of good jokes, some of the whipping scenes, and the hat flipping back on. The whole train scene was unrealstic and Homer was out of character. Though I actually really enjoyed the job scene with the old lady, " I like that! " was great. Of course at the same time it was stupid, but meh. And why didn't they try and get out of the caravan when the cops came?. Anyway the whole Captain Jack being alive thing was undevolped and just silly. The ending was mixed. It was quite funny, but I hated the idea of them being banned from all those states. Overall this isn't terrible episode but it's rather poor. Jokes are mixed. but there are A LOT of terrible ones as well as great ones. Characterizations are terrible and the plot is well...just ridicously out of place. Though one thing about this episode is...it isn't boring!. Doesn't deserve these F and even D- comments IMO. Overall grade about a C
