They will probably start S13 in November. Staying 4 yrs behind.

They won't what? They won't stay 4 seasons behind? I agree!
Won't advertise S11 as "new", because C4 are not stupid.

And I hope they won't stay four years behind.

And I presume they'll have rights to different seasons when (if) S13 airs in November?

What's up with C4 cutting to ad breaks in Hungry Hungry Homer after Homer's "And I gave the guy directions, even though I didn't know the way"? It was just incredibly random, especially considering the scene wasn't finished...

simplysimpsons

Yeah...weird! Should have ended after the Moe's Bar scene.

Who thinks C4 will shorten the Sideshow Bob rakes sequence in Cape Feare? I think they will - they've already tried to cut bits out of episodes, presumably for more ads.

George Cauldron

I guess the act break there is initially Fox's fault. I actually prefer the place where Sky decided to put the adverts - after Homer is injected in Mr Duff's office. That seems a more climactic moment to end an act, even if the act would have run on for too long.

Seems like Channel 4 are getting more cuts that we thought would happen in the 6pm airings...

It just makes me wonder what C4 will do when they get season 13; what time will they repeat Weekend at Burnsie's on the Sunday? 6pm seems early for the episode for any channel to handle, even the almost cut-free Channel 4...Not that there is anything really in the episode. Drugs are mentioned on TV before 9pm lots, and in the episode, there isn't much too explicit...Perhaps a 9pm repeat sounds justified?

Anyone else think that rather than cutting bits out of episodes, they should have a warning before the show of anything offensive; the C4 logo/Sky One logo on the screen, and the voice-over telling you...like they did with "Anatomy for Beginners" for those who saw that - they had a warning everytime they had adverts!

21/11/04 - All's Fair In Oven War
28/11/04 - Sleeping with the Enemy
5/12/04 - Treehouse of Horror XV

Cape Feare has a slo-mo cut. This is Matt (who reported the Treehouse Of Horror II). Anyway, the scene where Bob is revealed in prison (before C4 cut to ads), is slowed down. It does a pan from the Simpsons' house to the prison. The shot at the prison has slo-mo (seen by the rain and lightening seeming a bit slow), and appears to have been cut early to make the shot run the same amount of time as before. I think we lose the sight of Bob through the bars of his window. It simply cuts to Bob writing before fainting.

Bum bum bum. Blame subtitling for this. You certainly can't blame a man who suffers from slight hearing problems. Although, in the BBC 2 version, you can most certainly hear part of another line before Bart speaks (perhaps it's "th" of "those"? Or maybe it's just me...)

EDIT: just checked Wezzo's page (last week's update; today's not on yet) and no S6 episodes are on until at least mid-March. However, they're airing a lot of S9 AGAIN!!!!!! At the end of February, this will probably be the 4th or 5th time they've aired lots of S9. But still no The City of New York Vs Homer Simpson or The Cartridge Family. They did but that was before they put any episodes into the guide they just had a page with buttons saying Series "2", "3", "4", "5", "11", "12". The rest was either links to character bios etc or just nothing.

It aggrovates me how they call them "series" when it's an American show.
If it's American, they have "seasons" if it's British, they have "series" it's really simple...

RE: Channel Four and Season 6:

I am 99% sure C4 has the rights to Season 6. Every time the BBC had (or were about to get) the rights for a Season, Sky One stopped showing most of the episodes, except for maybe one or two now and again.
I don't know why this is (especially why they still showed the one or two episodes), but it looks like it's happening again with Sky and C4.

So in conclusion: Channel Four either have the rights to Season 6, or will very soon be obtaining those rights. Let this be the end of the discussion until we have further word. :)

Another slowdown cut (this time on Treehouse Of Horror 4). The gravestones have been slowed down, and the flash transition between gravestone shots. The "TV Violence" stone had bullets shot into it, but the sound effect didn't start until later in the shot. While we're on cuts, C4 covered up Homer's "bastard" with a scream, which is laughably appalling.

EDIT: The intro to "Bart Simpson's Dracula" is cut. The flash is removed, and the pan out from the picture is cut in half and slowed down.

This is my first week back after half-term...we were off school the week commencing Saturday 5th February and we came back to school on Monday 14th February...Schools in Newcastle, Darlington and London (and most other places it seems; I just know of those places for sure) have this week off (week commencing Saturday 12th February)

I wonder why it's different? It used to be the same for all schools in England & Wales, with Scotland usually a week after.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that they didn't cut to ads at the end of "Devil & Homer Simpson"?

EDIT: I notice George Cauldron has mentioned this.

Anyway, on the subject of cuts, when C4 air Behind the Laughter, they'll almost certainly cut to ads on one of the 'when we come back' parts, but would they cut the other?

Or, for that matter, when they air Guess Who's Coming To Criticize Dinner, they might cut to ads on Homer's "we'll be right back" line, but that would leave just seven or so minutes after the break, so it seems more likely they'll cut to ads after act one of the ep, but if so, would they cut Homer's line...?

Sky One cut the entire line, but BBC only mute "bastards"; it seems likely that C4 will do the same.

matt228
02-17-2005, 10:56 AM
C4 and Sky One need to set some guidelines for pre-watershed cuts.

For instance, in C4's current "guidelines" it is:
1. The word "bastard" will be treated in either of the following ways:
a) replacing the word with a scream
b) muting the word
c) cutting the word
d) leaving it in in an episode where the word is used 8 times (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, for an example)

et cetera

I imagine they left the lines in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" because it was being used in a "jokey" manner.

They haven't actually muted "bastard" yet...cut, but not muted...

George Cauldron

They left the "bastard" in Oh Brother Where Art Thou because even though Bart was intentionally swearing, we all know that it was the word "bastard" in the true context of the word.

How many times must you be told?Sky One have not aired any S6 episodes since around October, and since Channel 4 are airing all their episodes in order, I'm assuming that Channel 4 are about to get the rights to S6, and are repeating S2 until they get them. Let this discussion end until we have further word

Oh, and in response to Blythy, it seems Channel 4 have their episode guide in production code order, thus including holdovers which are part of S13.

Another thing; Channel 4 have removed the "new episode" box on their Simpsons minisite and moved the 9pm Friday S11 episodes to the "daily" box, so we know they're not advertising S11 as "new"

Got sent home from school at 10:20am due to heavy snow. Since yesterday, it's been snowing most of the time of varying amounts, but now 20 minutes without snow is a lot.

Anyway, who else has seen the new design on Simpsorama (www.simpsorama.com) (aka Censored Simpsons)? It's very nice, and I only noticed about 10 mins ago because I wasn't on it last night (plus I don't think it uploaded until this morning). Channel 4 don't have S6! How many times must you be told?

Do you have proof of this? To quote myself:

RE: Channel Four and Season 6:

I am 99% sure C4 has the rights to Season 6. Every time the BBC had (or were about to get) the rights for a Season, Sky One stopped showing most of the episodes, except for maybe one or two now and again.
I don't know why this is (especially why they still showed the one or two episodes), but it looks like it's happening again with Sky and C4.

So in conclusion: Channel Four either have the rights to Season 6, or will very soon be obtaining those rights. Let this be the end of the discussion until we have further word. :)

Also, decent new design on simpsorama, though you should add padding to the content area - it looks bad with the text right against the side. And I still think you should organise the pages better...

Looks like There's Something About Marrying will be later than March and indeed April:

Also now that it's been mentioned, I don't remember the 'piss' line in tonights episode. And don't you think they cut to a break at the wrong time - best time would have been after Homer's "We'll be right back!" (followed by Kent's line).

Bumblebee Man's cut (stuff in bold was cut): after Kent says "Go ahead, try to find a replacement", Bumblebee Man rushes in and prepares to read the news. With a British accent, he reads about the tidal wave. Shocked by the news, he screams "Aye chiuaua!" and falls off his chair.

I was quite surprised by this cut - once Bumblebee Man had come on screen I thought the whole scene would go ahead. Note that there are no cuts between shots in the original, so it was pretty lucky that cutting this bit out wasn't noticable - at least it wasn't for me. Normally you'd expect to see a slight jump in the picture.

I think I spotted two slo-mo cuts to C4's showing of Homer and Apu.

First, when Apu walks past the Simpson house, thunder storms in the background. Watch when it flashes - it is slowed down.

Secondly, when Homers open the door to Apu, one shot has lightening behind Apu. Slowed down there. Another shot of Apu, another flash, yet inconsistantly, no slowdown. Run that past me again...

Well, I really enjoyed Mommie Beerest tonight. Of course, I had to convince members of my family to let me watch it(Apperantly, The Simpsons have been declining since Season 4. What are you on!? Sorry) I give it a 4/5 because I wasnt too keen on the two songs. Loved everything else though. Good Homer characterisation and was extremely funny.

Heh, Simpsons won greatest cartoon show of all time...now who didn't see that coming? Actually it was a pretty decent list, with the exception of Futurama being 10 places too low (should have been in the top 10, easily). And Family Guy got into the top 5 - great!

Pretty off-topic here (and maybe no one cares), but my top 5 would have been: The Incredibles, Family Guy, South Park, Futurama, Simpsons.

Yes but is not even brand new to terrestrial, it is season 11, which was shown on bbc2 last year.

I thought you meant the previous Fridays. They are definitely not hyping S11 as new.

Oh, and in4mer have finally updated, and confirm that, as well as season 2 running weekdays, there is another double bill on 18 March, which is weird as thanks to the 11 March single ep, they wouldn't be able to keep on going with S11 in double-bills.

After the top 100 cartoons last night, which i was referring to if you read the post above mine. The presenter afterwards said you can watch classic episodes of simpsons at 6, and BRAND NEW episodes friday at 9.

During the voiceovers before Beyond Blunderdome and Brother's Little Helper, they made no mention of them being new. How do you know 100 Greatest Cartoons wasn't filmed before 18 February and the last two S12 eps? If this is the only mention of C4 airing "new" eps until they start S13, then we know they're not hyping S11 as new.

I was going to post about the "Brand New" mistake at the end of The 100 Greatest Cartoons too. Futurama not getting in the top 5 was an outrage, and so was the anime involved...I watched 10 minutes of the following South Park episode - does anyone know how many times they said 'shit' in the episode as a whole? They had a counter at the bottom-left to count it since the episode was about the word being OK to say...Butters?

162. I'll say what H_T said a few pages ago, just because this thread has "UK" in it's itle doesn't mean that it involves anything UK related. It's supposed to be about the Simpsons.

Yes. Unless one of your eyes is blind, in which case you can only see the "UK" and not make out the rest. ;)

Anyway, I didn't see the end, but I still reckon this is a mistake - C4 don't have the S11 eps under their "new episode" box on the Simpsons C4 minisite.

Pfft.. the bastard line in the ramones-happy-birthday was cut. Who cares? It's the DVDs that count.

C4 and Sky One need to set some guidelines for pre-watershed cuts.

For instance, in C4's current "guidelines" it is:
1. The word "bastard" will be treated in either of the following ways:
a) replacing the word with a scream
b) muting the word
c) cutting the word
d) leaving it in in an episode where the word is used 8 times (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, for an example)

et cetera That's so stupid, bastard isn't even a swear word and neither's piss.

Blythy

aye but there are daily mail readers in this country who if they hear it any time before 9 o'clock will write in and complain and organise a hate campaign against the channel.

errr... another one.

matt228
03-02-2005, 09:32 AM
Most swear-words have actual, non-swear-word meanings.
"Bastard": a child born out of wedlock
"Piss": urine
etc...
So saying "bastard" and "piss" aren't swear words is technically right and wrong...right in the sense of the above (e.g. "Your parents weren't married when you were born so you're a bastard. Now excuse me while I have a piss."), but wrong in the sense of using them otherwise (e.g. "You bastard! Piss off!")

aye but there are daily mail readers in this country who if they hear it any time before 9 o'clock will write in and complain and organise a hate campaign against the channel.
True.

For the sake of it, S11 so far;

Beyond Blunderdome - 3/5
Brother's Little Helper - 2/5
Guess Who's Coming To Criticize Dinner - 4/5
THOHX - 3.5/5

in4mer schedules are up first time for once, and list the 19/03-25/03 18:00 episodes for once, but they don't yet have the Friday at 9 schedules up yet, so we can't tell if there's going to be a single or double bill - and they'd need a single bill somewhere thanks to the lone E-I-E-I-D'oh next week leaving them with an odd number of eps left.
