Since C4 are nearing the end of season 12, will they be going on to season 13 yet again afterwards in that slot? C4 sales has a TBA slot there. And Nameless, I think someone should email C4 about it. Preferably using that angry email someone (H Thompson?) wrote a while back. And talking of the censorship guides, is the Simpsons Crazy one up yet?

Why is it that C4 Show the 'newer' Seasons on Sundays and not during the Week? I've always found that odd.

Lisa Is A Nut
09-23-2007, 11:34 AM
Yeah, that is weird. You have to wait a whole week to see the newer (well, post-classic) episodes, whilst C4 show the episodes you seen a million times on DVD during the week?

Because they're already running other episodes in that slot and they don't tend to interrupt season runs?

My sister and mum both watch Ugly Betty and so I've seen in a canny few times. It's actually quite good.

How about this for an email to C4:
Dear Channel 4,

Recently, you stopped airing season 14 of The Simpsons on Sunday afternoons, and replaced it with repeats of season 12. Is there a particular reason for this (perhaps you are moving S14 to a more favourable timeslot)? I don't mean to criticise you for your scheduling choices; I'm sure it's terribly hard to decide when to show things. It just seems silly that you pay so much money for a series of the show and then air the old ones again. I have Sky, and so have seen all of S14 already, but there are millions of customers who have not got Sky and so are being deprived of what are, to them, new episodes.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Matthew

I welcome any suggestions.

I needed a new pair of headphones, so I walked over into the town in my free periods between break and lunch today. After I'd got them, I realised that I had £30 from EMA in my bank account and since I was in Smiths anyway, I picked up season 10. Probably will get started on it in a week or so.

Which is a shame, because the S19 premiere has a kick-ass movie-related opening sequence. Altho it'll be good to finally see Crook & Ladder - the only S18 episode I haven't been able to get online.

I love this time of year! All the great shows return - QI, HIGNFY, Buzzcocks, Top Gear, plus between October and November we usually get about eight or nine brand new Simpsons in a row. And then it's Christmas time. Woohoo!!

What do you mean by "up"? If you mean just online, then it's at http://www.simpsoncrazy.com/ukcuts/ and has been for several months. If you're asking if it's been updated, then the answer is no.

I added early cuts for Season 13 on C4 but I haven't got round to adding the later cuts (rest of Season 13 & 14, and whatever's aired on Sky). I think they were posted in this thread so I guess I'll have to wade through the 20-odd pages of crap to find them at some point. ;-/

Channel 4 have replied to me (with much more haste than previously):
Dear Mr Johnson,

Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding THE SIMPSONS year 14. The second half of year 14 is due to be broadcast in January 2008. I have no specific dates at this time however. Please keep an eye on your TV listings closer to the time. I can assure you however that I have passed along your comments to the scheduling department. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate all feedback from our viewers; complimentary or otherwise.

So, January 2008 it is. Ah, well. As for buying S10, I haven't yet, but I might do. It depends whether or not I'm going on a trip to Paris: if I'm going, then I might need to use my money to pay for some of it, but if I'm not (or if my grandparents step in) then I can buy it soon. I don't get EMA. The reason I'm not sure about going or not is that they have organised a trip for 30 people when there are about 120 French students (the 30 are chosen by drawing names out of a hat), plus raising £300 is quite challenging, plus I am pretty sure of going to Montpeullier in July of next year anyway so it may be advantageous not to go on this Paris trip (the people who don't go to Paris this year are given priority for the second-year trip to Lille).

Sorry for rambling. I just typed as I thought.

I know it's mainly from The Britsons but I'm not sure about some of the stuff on that cuts page...I'm aware of several airings of A Streetcar Named Marge on BBC2, 29th December 1996 (and the day before on BBC1), 16th January 1998 and 4th January 1999. I'm pretty sure this is accurate as I'm sure I saw it more than once on BBC2, I didn't even get Sky until September '98 and there weren't any Sky showings of the episode from April 1996 to December 2001.

It also says that there was a debate in 1999 about whether to air Natural Born Kissers, the premiere date on Sky was 20th September 1998 and it aired three more times before the end of the year.

I'd like to say I knew all that by heart but I had to look it up.

Good work Matt. Another bizarre midseason delay in transmission from Channel 4, but at least they haven't given up on it altogether.

As a Beckettian, I remember looking forward to them showing Krapp's Last Tape as part of a comprehensive Beckett on Film season on a Saturday night a few summers ago, until the Queen Mother died earlier that day. This led to a massive schedule overhaul, where KLT and various other Beckett films were postponed seemingly permanently. I don't believe they ever did get shown on Channel 4 (unless they were hidden away in the schedule early in the week morning or very late at night), and the co-ordinator of the Beckett on Film project publically criticised C4 for their scheduling when he received a South Bank Show award for the films.

Just as well I've got the films on DVD then :silly:
But that did seriously strike me as the signal that Channel 4 had gone from being an edgy and genuinely unusual station to becoming populist and hysterical (with a few exceptions - they still have easily the best news programme, alongside Newsnight, on the whole of television). I suspect, for instance, that nowadays they'd never screen something like the Nigel Short Garry Kasparov chess match from 1993.

You're wrong, as they're showing Season 2 of Ugly Betty, starting 5th October, so it's good news, as the show's returning, but bad because the rest of schedule is filled up with useless shows (why are they showing Skins on C4? It was much more suited on E4).

Is anyone else watching Not Going Out? It's still very good, but I think the loss of Kate has had an impact. The cleaning lady is funny up to a point, but she is kind of repetitive.

So you're all not left on tenterhooks after my ramblings in a previous post, my grandparents are going to pay for my Paris trip (for Christmas), and I'll leave my depost of £50 on Monday. If I get drawn out of the hat, I'll be going in March. Otherwise, I will not go (obviously), but will get priority for the Lille trip in year 2. Tomorrow, I'm making more arrangements about me going to Montpeullier in July. However, my mum is pregnant (woo!) and the baby will be due in late May/early June (apparantely 24th May but mum reckons she is a few weeks less pregnant than her nurse friend who examined her), so I may not want to go (unless it's driving me mad!) at such a time.

It was pretty bad IMO, even though I was only half paying attention because I hate David Firth. Most of his cartoons are crosses between that ridiculous "random" (whatever the fuck that is) humour and morbid humour that teenage faux-goths worship him for.

QI was great, as always. Missed IT Crowd. Watched Mock the Week twice (Sky+), shame that it has to come to an end but was a great show. Also watched Heroes today (from BBC3, Wednesday): very good stuff. Studio 60 was good too. Yes, I spent my morning catching up on Sky+. At least I had a productive afternoon: job-seeking and homework. Fabulous. Two extra days off and I spend 6 hours of one of them working or looking for opportunities to work. What the fuck is wrong with me? Ah well, they'll "get back to me" in 2 weeks or less. And if they don't, what happens? My pizza is free? Wow that was a lame attempt at comedy, but at 2:13am can you blame me? Springfield Up was probably the best of season 18. Weak among other format benders though, I'd put it on par with Behind the Laughter.

And new episodes at 5:30 and 7 next week? What are they?

I beleive they are Rome-old and Juli-eh and Boys Of Bummer.

Yes, yes, but I thought it was fairly notable since Wezzo's listings are different, but for Channel 4 his listings are only up to the beginning of season 8.

EDIT: Oh wait, I didn't realise that was listings for Sunday. Kinda lame considering it's been out on DVD for a year and it's nice to catch an episode circa season 12 that I can rip to shreds to make me feel better about myself after spending another weekend not leaving the house. I wonder what C4 will do when they've finished season 8 on weekdays.

It was Yeardly Smith who went up to collect the Award. I was hoping for Dan to go up and do another Homer speech.

Congratulations to The Simpsons.

I don't think she's ever given a speech for the show in the UK. Also, I would've liked Dan to do another Homer speech, as he did at a TV awards show. If he did, I wouldn't have seen it, but I'm sure YouTube would provide it soon enough.

I'm also excited because it's my birthday in 3 days, and I've asked for the Season 10 DVD, as I didn't bother getting it when it was released.

Springfield Up was decent, but with quite a low amount of jokes that made me laugh out loud (or even subtle ones that made me laugh on the inside). C+

I have no idea why there are new episdoes on Sky One at 5:30 and 7 next week. I thought my Sky+ was playing up.

Sky have given S9 to C4, as you said. C4 will probably give S12 to Sky as soon as they finish airing it (or perhaps the earliest season they have, is it S4?).

I was worried that, after reading about some Vivian Vile show, the new Thursdays are Funny line up wasn't going to be that good, but I'm really pleased with it. I missed it but watched it on a website, I don't see why they would cut it, plenty of things in the past have portrayed the queen in a negative way. I know it caused some controversy with the press, but t.v channels don't cave into anything just because of a tiny bit of fuss, they would have got complaints if it had been cut as well because it's such needless censorship, it's stupid of anyone to get upset, because it's such a ridculous idea, that no one could possibly argue they were seriously trying to make any kind of statement with it.

^Yeah, that episode of Buzzcocks rules. New series starts next month! But I think the change to 'Dave' is pointless. It's the same schedule, just with a makeover. And who calls a TV channel Dave? It's just...weird. Although it is pretty cool that they got Phill Jupitus to do the voiceovers.

Oh, and being the only S18 episode I haven't seen, I thought Crook and Ladder was pretty good. Lots of good one liners, but I think the firemen got corrupted too quickly. Oh well, still good. B+

BTW, the hosts for the next 3 episodes of HIGNFY have been announced - Alexander Armstrong, Omid Djalili and...Jeremy Paxman. That is gonna be BRILLIANT. :D

Fantastic choices of HIGNFY presenters, I must say.

Dave is just the new name for UKTV G2. It's a strange choice, but I don't really care. Good to see that series D of QI is on now (though I couldn't watch it last night). I'm looking forward to seeing episode 4 again, as I loved Phill Jupitus's answer when asked what the biggest eyesore in the UK was: "People, common people. The working classes. Poorly-groomed servants."

Awesome.

Adamm R)))
10-16-2007, 07:51 AM
Dave is kinda a weird name, but not really a pointless change, since they're re-branding it for a Freeview audience. And it'd be odd to have a name ending in 2 on Freeview without the original channel being present too. Oh and of course that's ignoring Sky Three. ;)

matt228
10-16-2007, 08:36 AM
It is very "lol random", I quite agree. Ah well, I suppose they'd better start renaming all UKTV channels in the same manner. UKTV History can be called Churchill, UKTV Gardens can be called Alan and UKTV Style can be called Carol. Alas, I couldn't think of one for UKTV Gold.

Adamm R)))
10-16-2007, 08:39 AM
I wouldn't say so. I just looked on Wikipedia and it said "UKTV said the name of the channel was chosen because "everyone knows a bloke called Dave".". I had assumed that it was something along those lines. When the tagline is "home of witty banter", it seems like they were going for something casual and the viewer can relate to it on some level. So yes a stupid name, but I'd say it's possibly justifiable.

EDIT: This post just sounds really weird. Probably because I'm debating the name of a TV channel.

Good news about S19, I've seen the first four episodes and each one has been better than the last. Don't be put off by He Loves to Fly, which is OK - I thought the 3 after that were really good.

But then, I liked Crook and Ladder, so...

Anyway, HIGNFY was great, Not Going Out was goddamn hilarious. Watching QI on BBC4 just now.

Bart Star has just aired on C4 and The Two Mrs Apus is on next but SNPP says THOH8 was meant to air followed by Cartridge Family; do C4 consider the THOH and Cartridge too violent, are they holding them back for closer to Halloween, or have they lost the tapes for THOH/Cartridge?

EDIT: C4 removed the establishing shot of the auction house where the sign guy puts 'bastard' up on the sign.

Okay, so they don't like swearing this early, but you'd probably be wondering why the simpsons are at a bachelor auction, if you've never seen the episode before. It would be cool if C4 did a spooky Halloween Simpsons Special thing on Friday night, but that's never going to happen.... ;)
They could show several Halloween episodes (such as Season 6-Season 11, etc.) the night before Halloween at 7-9 or something, and then show some weird horror movie after it. Obviously, it's never going to happen, but it would be cool if they thought of filling up the Friday schedule with Simpsons episodes, instead of lame (okay, sometimes lame) comedy shows, made purposely to fill up the already packed schedule.

There was one shot of Homer crashing into a table as Ganesh, then the ceremony continued. But then the whole "Put me down! Ganesh commands you!" was kept in, which made even less sense. Stupid C4.

No Top Gear tonight :(

BTW, has anyone with Sky been watching The Riches on Virgin 1? It's pretty good - a little slow to start but it's been picking up. And seeing Eddie Izzard bluff his way into a law firm is so funny.

Haha, really? I was watching the episode, but I wasn't paying too much attention. Seems a little over-sensitive if you ask me, especially as they showed a hymn book being burned seconds before.

Oh and Stop or My Dog Will Shoot was pretty bad. What happened to animals acting like animals? One thing worthy of note though, was that Rudy Guliani appeared, despite his appearance being removed from the US version.

Sorry to hammer it home, Turambar, but more good news from Sky!

JABF18 Homer of Seville airs at 7pm on Sunday 4th November, which means I get to see a new episode on my birthday for the first time ever! Woohoo! :D

As well as that, JABF21 Midnight Towboy airs on the following Sunday 11th November, also at 7pm.

And that's where new episodes dry up for the moment. A repeat of The Wife Aquatic airs on Sunday 18th November instead, while the crucial slot is taken up by Old Money on Sunday 25th November. It's pretty good that we get to see the first 3 episodes of Season 19 so quickly, though and I'm sure more new episodes will appear at Christmas.

I take it that no-one else saw the premiere of season 19 on Sky One tonight, then, since it's 4 hours since the episode aired and nobody's posted in this thread...

He Loves to Fly and He D'ohs was, for me, a little dull. Nothing really interesting happened (we all knew that he was going to land the plane anyway) and he came out of it without telling Marge the truth, which was surprisingly unsatisfactory. However, it certainly wasn't a bad episode, so I'll award this episode a C-.

I saw that episode and thought it was one of the best Simpsons episodes in quite a while, but I do have strong connections with aviation (I'm studying aeronautical engineering and go flying regularly in light aircraft), so I guess the aviation humour appealed to me :p Especially Duff Man's line about reporting Homer to the FAA for the near miss :D Although that really needed an "Ooh yeah!" at the end. Although, most Learjets (which that aircraft appeared to be modelled on) are two-crew aircraft, so if the captain did pass out, there'd be someone else to land it. Unless of course, like in Airplane! they both eat the fish.

And all airports should have that claw extractor thingy :D Brilliant invention!

I Sky+'d it too, since it clashes with Emmerdale, which my family watches. I'm a little annoyed with these 7pm episodes. The 6:30 slot was perfect: just before prime time so it has little competition and families will be together around that time. I find it hard to believe they'd give up that slot for some game show. The Simpsons (and Lost for a lot of people, I guess) really does save Sky One, because aside from it they have some of the shittiest line ups imaginable. I'll see this episode on Tuesday.

I didn't like the new opening, which is something I forgot to mention earlier. I quite like Are You Smarter than a 10 Year Old?, so I don't mind the moving of OFF to 7pm much.

I watch Cirque de Celebrité (despite the fact that it should be spelt Célébrité), and I did last series. I don't know who most of the celebrities are, but it's still a good watch as the circus tricks amaze me (having never been to one). I have to agree - The Raven is pure gold. It's certainly IMO the scariest THOH story, and JEJ pulls off the narration perfectly. Reminds me of the voice from Thriller.

The Big Fat Anniversary Quiz was quite good, glad to see GamesMaster get a mention. And loved the ending...The Crystal Maze was the best show ever made. No question.

HIGNFY was great, Jo Brand was fantastic, although her monotonous voice didn't really sound right for hosting the show, as a few of the jokes fell flat. Andy Hamilton was good as always. No guest publication this week tho, because as usual they spend too much time on the first round and crammed every other round in. The missing words round only had two headlines! The editing on the show is appalling, they should just give HIGNFY a 45 minute slot and show the extended version as standard.

JABF16 Treehouse of Horror XVIII will air on Sky on Sunday 16th December at 7pm, whilst two more new episodes are listed for 23rd December and 29th December - possibly Little Orphan Millie and Husbands and Knives.

So we have 3 new episodes in December, with JABF19 I Don't Wanna Know Why The Caged Bird Sings being shown on 9th December!

As well as all of that, the KABF's will be starting soon, too! A new episode is scheduled for Sunday 12th January 2008 - that'll probably be KABF01 Funeral For A Fiend, but we'll see - and yet another one is pencilled in for Sunday 19th January, which has yet to even be scheduled in the US, if it goes ahead, what with the writers strike.

So, there's no threat of new episodes drying up here over the next few months!

Someone will probably get me the movie for Christmas. If not, I'll buy it in the January sales. I'm in no massive rush: I bought a copy in Thailand.

I'm still holding out for a two-disk edition, personally, but I might buy the first edition if I hear good reviews from people.

Even though I was tempted to hold out for a better version, I ordered it from woolworths. Good price and free delivery, so I couldn't see why not.

I'm not sure there is a repeat, I know David Cross makes it sound like it could be good, but it's really not, he hardly said anything.

I hear the place to go for torrents of u.k shows is uk nova if you're that desperate.

Well, I pretty much structure my life around the handful of tv shows I watch regularly, so I'm curious to watch it. I may download it if I find it. My dad sky+d it but deleted it before I could tell him that I wanted to see it.

If Wezzo's reading this, can I ask why he had today's C4 S9 episodes listed as being on an hour after they were actually aired (he listed two episodes at 4:30, it was at 3:35)?

Oh, so America can't stop airing new eps but UK can! How immature.

I don't think someone who made a "create your own Digimon" thread should be judging others on their maturity.

I just watched it and I agree about Jermaine Jackson. Although I didn't actually know who David Cross was previously, so it didn't make me any more excited about it. Noel Fielding wasn't particularly bad but I generally don't like him and he said little that was funny. However, it wasn't that bad really. The only reason I bothered watching it was because my dad said it was one of the funniest he'd seen.

Anyone recommend a website on which I can watch Buzzcocks? I missed the first two and won't be able to catch any of them since they moved it to 9pm on a Thursday. For me, Thursdays are fucking awkward, not fucking funny.
