What's your favorite video game of the 90's. For me, it's between Wolfenstein 3D (DOS 1992), Tomb Raider (PlayStation 1996) and Medievil (PlayStation 1997). All classic games; Wolfenstein was one of the, if not the, first ever 3D FPS games. Tomb Raider was a classic and with incredible gameplay; and finally, Medievil had that amazing gothic look but with a load of wit.
So what were your favorite games from the 90's then?

That's like asking "favorite video games of the past 25 years". It's just too damn broad to narrow down to a few select titles.

There once was a charming game about a bear and bird on the N64. It was the most mystical, fantastically vibrant and lively game ever witnessed by this red-haired video gaming nerd. He spent many hours savouring every moment he had with the game, having mental orgasms over the joyous hours spent roming the countryside, lurking about a ghoulish mansion or clanking around a derelict ship. He has yet to meet a game that comes close to matching the joy, the fun, and the sheer delight that was experienced in this game. It was an interactive fairy-tale, and being the fan of fairy-tales that he was, he generally regarded this oustanding game as the best of the 90's. The game?
Banjo-Kazooie.

Probaly Super Mario 3 - if you're talking early 90s. The gaming world went through immense changes from the early 90s into the mid 90s. Greater than any other gaming advancement since its start. 2d to 3d.

Always was a big fan of Super Mario All-Stars. 4 games in one, updated graphics, 16-bit soundtrack, a game save option, awesomeness. A few others:
Breath of Fire - one of my favorite RPGs, it was easy to play, fun to explore, and had rewarding side quests.
Earthworm Jim - oh, c'mon! Who can forget Jim?!
Donkey Kong Country - the whole trilogy reeked of awesomeness.
Zelda: Link's Awakening - Since everyone always raves about LttP and OoT so often, I'll go with the Game Boy game. Great fun.

My favourite game of the 90s is, and has always been, Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Others:
Sonic 1, 2, CD, 3D, Adventure
Banjo-Kazooie
Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
ToeJam and Earl 1 & 2
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (I still think Majora's Mask was better tho)
Mario 64
Lemmings (?)
Goldeneye
Diddy Kong Racing
Super Mario Bros Deluxe
Metal Gear Solid
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Spyro 1 & 2
Pokémon Blue

Christ, it was a good decade. Not one to avoid courting controversy, here's my top five.
5. Mario Kart 64 (N64)
I still regard this as THE multiplayer game to end all, perhaps even more than Goldeneye *ducks*... whilst these days the graphics and the animation are sub-par to say the least, the gameplay still hasn't aged, and it's so god damn simple. Pick a character, drive about. Awesome. The single-player mode doesn't have nearly as much longevity as Diddy Kong Racing, but the four-player melees you're able to kick off on this thing are hideously, hideously addictive.
4. Banjo-Kazooie (N64)
As Jimmy C said, wonderful. Just brilliant beyond words. The only true challenger to Mario 64's crown, and, for a while, it beat the living daylights out of it. Rare came out of nowhere with DKC three years before having remained rather quiet (originally going under the name of Ultimate years and years before), and despite the legion of outstanding titles they're still pumping out (Viva Pinata, man!), B-K was their swansong. Rare's characterisations are second to no one else in the industry, and this holds enough charm to knock anyone dead. Possibly the 2nd greatest platform game ever made. And I'm biased in what comes 1st.
3. Pop N' Twinbee (SNES)
Alright, here comes the weird choice. For anyone who's never had the joy of playing this, it's a vertically-scrolling shoot-em-up with a difference; i.e. its' completely off its head. The spaceships you pilot are anthropomorphic, there's 3,000 different colours to every screen and you'll find yourself up against potatoes dressed as pirates, a giant squid which splits open into an underwater laser-cannon, suicidal pandas, walking and flying fruit with killer instincts, and a touch of Anime zaniness that makes the whole thing an experience as close to being high as possible. Plus, it sports the best soundtrack to any game on any Nintendo format. Undoubtedly. It's blatantly not everyone's cup o' tea but I really couldn't let a top 5 of any games go ahead without including Pop N' Twinbee.
2. Super Mario 64 (N64)
I don't need to spell it out. This game changed EVERYTHING.
1. The Secret of Monkey Island (Amiga/PC)
Whoa, a non-console game? Get outta here! I've always loved the first Monkey Island over the rest of the series, and I've constantly quoted it as my all-time fave game on any format. Why? The humour, the game engine, the music (nostalgia amiga music is high, high, HIGH on my 'likes')... and the lead character, Guybrush Threepwood. Think Hugh Grant, but with more intelligence and less simpering. An absolutely massive game with puzzles and plot twists that can't be seen a mile off, MI 1 is undoubtedly the best game to come out of the decade. Whilst it didn't change the market in the way SM64 did, it kept a lot of people very, very entertained. It owns all, guy.*
*note to self, stop talking like that

Oddworld (Oddysee and Exodus)
Earthworm Jim (1 and 2)
Megaman X4 (The best of the entire Megs franchise, IMO)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Especially the 'Upper' edition with extra characters)
Banjo Kazooie
Goldeneye
Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart 64
Kirby Superstar
Doom (1 and 2)
The Simpsons Arcade Game
Mischief Makers (Underrated game that needs more attention!)
Just off the top of me head.

Metal Gear Solid - I just plain love the game. It's almost an experience, from the fast section at the docks and heliport to the awesome car chase with Liquid out of the base. <3
Ocarina - Yeah, it's a given. I enjoyed the Forest, Fire and Shadow temples. Epic battle with Ganon at the climax too.
Majora's Mask - Bit of an odd selection here, but I think the whole basis of the game is superb in it's originality and execution. There's no other Zelda game like it and for that reason it gets a

I think the 80's would definitely not be as hard though. The 90's was the heyday. We had the last part of NES' life, the SNES, the Genesis, the N64, the Playstation, the Sega Saturn, the Dreamcast, the Gameboy, and a huge plethora of other obscure systems like the Neo-Geo all in one single decade.
You know thinking about it, gaming has slowed down actually quite a bit. We've had the GC, now the Wii, then the two Microsoft consoles and some handhelds, and the PS2 itself has lasted 7 years almost and is only now starting to be replaced (or trying to replace it rather) which is pretty remarkable for a system.

Ah don't get hung up in that stuff. If you like a game you like it. VII's an undeniably major part of gaming now whether some like it or not.

Hey Guys I'm new here, but not to games. Been a gamer since I was 4.
My top games of the 90s are similar to you guys'
Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, LoZ:OOT, FFVII, Banjo Kazooie, Super Smash Bros. Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Megaman X. Many others to name...man it's interesting to see as games become more technologically advanced the "superb" games of our day become fewer and fewer..
